Macklemore - My Oh My Lyrics

I used to sit with my dad in the garage
That sawdust, that Pinesol, and the moss
Around every spring, when the winter thawed
We'd huddle around the radio, twist the broken knob
710 AM, no KJR. Dave Niehaus' voice would echo throughout the yard
Couldn't have been older than 10
But to me and my friends
The voice on the other end might as well have been God's
1995, the Division Series
Edgar's up to bat
Bottom of the 11th inning
Got the whole town listening
"Swung on and belted," the words distorted. "Joey Cora rounds third!
Here comes Griffey! The throw to the plate's not in time!
My, oh my, the Mariners win it!"
Yes. Fireworks, they lit up that ceiling in the King dome
We had just made history

[Dave Niehaus announcing:]
"And swung on and lined down the left field line for a base hit!
Here comes Joey! Here comes Junior to third base!
They're gonna wave him in! The throw to the plate will be…
Late! The Mariners are going to play for the American League Championship!
I don't believe it! It just continues! My, oh my!"

Laces woven, barely holdin' that stitch
The creases of time amongst the grime and the grit
Where the leather he used to pound his fists
To some it's just a mitt, but see that glove was him
Yep, tell me stories on the field, with that sun-stained brim
Blood under my chin, he taught me how to spit
Sunflower seeds back with me and my crew
Sunburnt arms
Big League Chew
Yeah we were like, The Sandlot after dinner
After practice we'd listen
To the M's in the kitchen
And if mom wasn't trippin'
"Come on dad! Please, I swear, just one more inning!"
Voice went "pump, pump!" through the system
"Break out the rye bread! It's grand salami time!"
"My, oh my! Another victory!" Yes. My city, my city
Childhood, my life watchin' Griffey right under those lights

Under that light rain, gleaming in that night game, can't stop now
Keep moving, no brake pads!
Came here to prove a point, live my life on the field
Make history in between the base paths
And compete against the fear that is in me that's my only barrier and I swear that I'mma break that!
From the mud
The cleats that we drug
Through the feet
This is that moment, and you can't take it back
I don't really collect cards anymore, just a box and some old cardboard
Memories embedded in the dust, in the fibres that age just like us
Livin' somewhere off in the drawer
This is what you make of it. Yeah, we play to win
Live it like we're under the lights of the stadium
Fight until the day that God decides to wave us in
Right, until he waves us in
It's my city, my city, childhood, my life. That's right
Under those lights
My city, my city, childhood, that's right. Niehaus, "My, oh my!"
Come on. My city, my city, childhood, my life. That's right, under those lights
It's my city, my city, childhood, my life, Niehaus. My, oh my. Rest in peace

Mac using music made me feel pride for a team I don't support from a country I don't live in from a sport Ive never watched once in my life. Wow Music is so special to me it scares me that I might be deaf someday. I hope I can remember how it sounds and I hope when I think of it I still get the same emotions when I hear it.

  13. K.... B....

Joey Cora never had to round third. He was at third base as he had just went first to third on Griffey's single, which was followed by Edgar's game winning double.

  14. H.... ....

I wasn’t alive when that ‘95 ALDS happened, but man, what a moment. I’m no Mariner’s fan, but I would’ve jumped and cheered and gone crazy seeing that.

    What a song Macklemore.

  15. D.... W....

Nine Years Ago Today...damn; still terribly missed here in Seattle and the PNW...

  16. R.... A....

He should make a song about how the Mariners wasted Ichiro's career. Or a song about Ichiro in general.

Ah a art piece about American history

  35. L.... B....

Everything he says in this video is so exactly right! I grew up in Seattle in the 90s in a Mariners family, Dave Niehaus narrating the soundtrack playing in the background of my childhood. I was at so many of those big games, especially in the ‘95 playoffs. I don’t live in Seattle anymore because I just got to a point where I missed Seattle from the 90s too much, and it’s just so different now, but I love this video — the sites of my beautiful hometown and some of the best memories from my childhood. Thanks Macklemore.

  36. A.... M....

I love how Macklemore always sings what he means. I love how he doesn't get hate from doing what he loves. He is so lucky because of that. I am a girl and I get hate from being a Quarterback, a rapper, and a Trumpet player. So if anyone, anyone at all reads this, please, I am begging you, don't listen to those fools who tell you what you can and can't do. They are just wishing that they can do what you do. I wish my younger self knew that. I had to teach myself that once middle school started 3 years ago because there were some people at my school who didn't agree with me being a girl rapper, QB, and Trumpet player.

Thumbs down? Really? Y'all must not understand the history nor have ever heard Dave Niehaus call a Mariner game then. He was legend!!

Song is pretty good, but Mariners suck ass and always will.

  71. P.... A....

He looks like Vin Diesel e_e

  72. C.... B....

I grew up an Atlanta fan but this song seems to characterize my upbringing with the Braves. Listening to the the radio with Sid breams coming to the plate. My oh my!

  73. R.... P....

i used to listen to this before every baseball game. WHERE DID THE TIME GO

  74. F.... S....

Those who live outside the PNW have no idea how exciting that '95 run was, so many come-from-behinds late in the season. Game 5 in its' entirety is on YouTube, pull it up and check out this thrilling game and that amazing M's roster. After all these years I still get the chills when I see Edgar's franchise-saving double. Macklemore does the legendary Dave Niehaus right, this song should be the city's theme song.

  75. j.... f....

How have I never heard this

  76. K.... G....

You should totally do a song with NF, he’s just a real as you!!! Y’all would make a great song together!!

The best part is where the commetator says the name of the song "1:25"

  81. C.... H....

One day mac we will win go M's true to the blue

  82. S.... R....

His songs my be old, but THERE STILL AMAZING

  83. H.... N....

I've been waiting for the m's to make the playoffs in my lifetime. While I'm waiting, I'll feel nostalgic to this song

  84. J.... ....

Amazing. Hawks, Mariner fan since birth. Just like my son

  85. R.... G....

Don’t lose your life learning things others say, imagine! School traps us, making us think inside the box. I learned maths all my life, thought it would have helped me some day, but I don’t like it at all. So go out there and do what you want 👍🏿. I missed my chance. Don’t miss your chance.

I was born in Seattle, and I remember having to move at the age of 4 or 5 and I remember throwing a tantrum to my parents because I didn't want to move, I'm 17 now and my plan is to move back to Seattle when I'm ready and able, This song is like, my anthem. Thank you Macklemore 🙌
