Lynn Anderson - Ding-A-Ling The Christmas Bell Lyrics
Gather round and I will tell the story of a Christmas bell
That used to shine and chime and ring and why we called him Ding a Ling
One of the famous jingle bells is what he was but then he fell
And broke his pretty harmony and he began to ring a key
Now we called him Ding a Ling because he has a funny ring
The other bells met secretly and he heard one say in a real low key
He's sure to ruin our Christmas sound and we don't want him hangin' around
He overheard the secret boat and walked away with a lamp in his note
The saddest bell you've ever seen the Christmas bell called Ding a Ling
They all called him Ding a Ling...
The snow is falling in the square when the children found him there
And placed him on the Christmas tree for everyone in town to see
As Christmas Eve went to the town a blinding snow was coming down
The thought occurred to Ding a Ling to ring as loud as he could ring
And when ol' Santa heard the sound it guided him into the town
Now the children shout and sing and everyone loves Ding a Ling
So everything has turned out well for Ding a Ling the Christmas bell

Lynn Anderson Ding-A-Ling The Christmas Bell Comments
I'm 49 and remember listening to this as my mom would make Christmas cookies. I guess I like it so much because I can relate
This song has been a Christmas favorite ever since I can remember. However, as an adult, certain endeavors has gained me the knowledge that "santa claus" is actually "The Holly King", the god of darkness, who is the opposite of his brother, "The Oak King", who is the god of light. The subject of the song has "fallen". Sooo...the "fallen one" "summons" "the god of darkness" -- a,) rings as loud as he could ring, b.) it guided him (santa claus) into the town. Yeah, I will no longer be listening to this song.
This should have been made into a children's Christmas storybook.
One of the best Christmas songs ever.
they played it again i think
This was always my favorite record as a kid, I'm so glad to hear it again after decades!!
Love this sweet song!
Lovely it’s sure is Christmas season thanks .
This is my grandmothers favorite Christmas song, I always think of her when listening to it.
She has such a soft clear smooth voice !
Beautiful !
wonderful christmas song
The ringing sounds were done by using harmonics on a steel guitar. Such a beautiful instrument!
I have missed this song somewhere. I do love it 2018 CHRISTMAS a great song.
One of my faves. Wish it was on CD. My best friend and I used to sing this. She is no longer here so it brings back a ton of memories when I listen to it. Merry Christmas everyone.
I missed this song as a kid and first heard it in '94 on a radio show that played classic humor and novelty songs. I recorded it and have played it every year since then.
It just wasn’t Christmas if you didn’t hear this in the radio when I was little. Then in mid 80s they seemed to stop playing it. This was one of the first items I searched for on google. Brings back Happy Memories!
Listened to this Lynn Anderson 8 track all the time when I was a kid

Trouble In The Amen Corner
It was a stylish congregation you could see they had been around
And they had the biggest pipe organ of any church in town
But over in the amen corner of that church sat Ol' Brother Ire
And every Sunday he insisted on singing in the choir
His voice was cracked and broken age had touched his vocal chords
And nearly every Sunday he would get behind and miss the words
Well, the choir got so flustered the church was told, then fine
Brother Ire must quit his singing or the choir is going to resign
So the pastor appointed a committee I think it was three or four
They got in their big fine car drove up to Ire's door
They found the choirs great trouble sitting there in a big armed chair
The summers golden sum beam lay up on his snow-white hair
Said York, "We're here with the Vestry's approbation
To discuss a little mater that affects the congregation
Now it seems your voice is interfering with the choir
So if you will just lay out are you listening, Brother Ire?
The old man raised his head a sign he did hear
And on his cheek the three men caught the glitter of a tear
His feeble hands pushed back the locks as white as silky snow
And he answered the committee in a voice both soft and low
"I wonder if beyond the tide that is breaking at my feet
In that far off heavenly temple where my Master I shall meet
I wonder if when I try to sing the songs of God up higher
Will they kick me out up there for singing in Heavens Choir?"
A silence filled the room the old man bowed his head
The committee went on back to town, but Brother Ire was dead.
The choir missed him for awhile, but it soon forgot
A few church goers watched the door, but the old man entered not
From far away his voice is sweet now and he sings his hearts desires
Where there are no committees and no fashionable choirs

The Touch Of The Master's Hand
'Twas battered and scarred, and the auctioneer
Thought it scarcely worth his while
To waste much time on the old violin,
But held it up with a smile.
"What am I bidden, good folks," he cried,
"Who'll start the bidding for me?"
"A dollar, a dollar. Then two! Only two?
Two dollars, and who'll make it three?"
"Three dollars, once; three dollars, twice;
Going for three…" But no,
From the room, far back, a grey-haired man
Came forward and picked up the bow;
Then wiping the dust from the old violin,
And tightening the loosened strings,
He played a melody pure and sweet,
As a caroling angel sings.
The music ceased, and the auctioneer,
With a voice that was quiet and low,
Said: "What am I bid for the old violin?"
And he held it up with the bow.
"A thousand dollars, and who'll make it two?
Two thousand! And who'll make it three?
Three thousand, once; three thousand, twice,
And going and gone," said he.
The people cheered, but some of them cried,
"We do not quite understand.
What changed its worth?" Swift came the reply:
"The touch of the Master's hand."
And many a man with life out of tune,
And battered and scarred with sin,
Is auctioned cheap to the thoughtless crowd
Much like the old violin.
A "mess of pottage," a glass of wine,
A game — and he travels on.
He is "going" once, and "going" twice,
He's "going" and almost "gone."
But the Master comes, and the foolish crowd
Never can quite understand
The worth of a soul and the change that is wrought
By the touch of the Master's hand.

Love Ding a Ling the Christmas Bell. Rarely ever gets played.
Always listened to this on the old 8 track tape player! Early 1970's.
One of my mothers favorite too, she had the album and I remember listening to it every year.

i heard this song by accident and just fell in love with it
Have loved this one since the 70's.
Great song
this is a good song since it close to christmas
Wonderful story in song, of how even the imperfect serve a purpose. Love this.
I plan to use this song as my "poster song" for the Christmas parties that I will play guitar for this Christmas of 2015. And I'm sure to get the kids to sit and listen when I preface the song by asking, " what would you do with a broken Christmas bell?"
great idea how did it go
@William Greb -- You're not only a great entertainer but, also, a wonderful teacher of lessons that kids need to know.
Lynn, tu es GENIALE... merci a tout jamais.... Patrick de FRANCE

Mom and dad used to play this and many other older Christmas songs on a reel-to-reel when we were kids. Thanks for posting this bit of nostalgia.
I never knew Lynn Anderson had even done this song until I heard it on the radio Christmas Day...Thank you for posting this...now I can listen to it on YouTube.
I'm with all of you, this is my favorite Christmas songs. It's not Christmas until I hear this song. I make my girls listen to it every time it comes on.
I have this cd and it is a family favorite. I have put this on my g/kids cd to sing along to in the car... it's their favorite, too, and they know all the words....
It's not christmas without this song. K.C.
i am 42 and also grew up with this 8 track!!!!
same here !!!!
I love it!!!
i have been trying to get this album for years and years... grew up with it as a kid. someone needs to reproduce it on CD and make it available for sale again... beautiful for the kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you for this (from the sunny caribbean)
I have been looking for this song for ages and could not remember who sang it. Thanks to who ever put this on YOU TUBE. (however, I can't seem to pull it up to listen to it).
I have the original vinyl record. The posters commenting on radio not playing these classic country Christmas songs are correct. Country radio has forgotten its founder Goerge D Hay and WSM 650 AM. WSM has two of the longest running radio shows in history. 1: The Grand Ole Opry and Ernest Tubbs Midnight Jamboree. Try ti tune in to 650 on your AM radio dial on saturday night.
Thank you so much. I looked for this earlier and couldn't find it. My grandma had this album and we would play this song over and over. Thank you for the good memories with her.
Thank you for sahring this song...It's been a favorite of mine for 35 years and a favorite of my mothers for many years as well...It brings back sweet Christmas memories!!!!
i'd love to post that album, but i actually downloaded this song, and after searching for the other songs on her christmas album, i was unable to find any. =[
Thank you so much! I love this song!
