the pilot is an awesome guy. In a life or death situation, his first instinct is the safety of others.

That not right As you see the pilot in such a scary situation you try to hold on to life so as not to die .. The mistake in the pilot's judgment instead of opening a spare parachute that might have saved his life and then the pilot might have been alive today!

Sad to see a life given for such a hobby. The passenger seemed almost uninterested in the experience. Was the passenger trying to play the part of the ultimate "cool guy", zooming through the air doing radical moves - and all the while he's like, "No biggie"?
Sadly, his ride ended with the strap on guy dead - attached to him. Awful!

It seemed like the pilot got impaled on some iron fencing or some strong rigid metal object. A helmet might've helped prevent some metal from skewering pilot's head tho.

He was adjusting trim at :20. You can see the carabiner fail around :41. You can pause the video and see the carabiner open and elongated post-failure. He did not commit suicide(intentionally). It might be wise to us steel carabiners for tandem. In hang gliding, we quit using aluminum carabiners in the early 80s because of failures. Aluminum can be easily nicked causing a stress-riser. Kudos to the guy for trying to minimize injury to his passenger. Flying without a reserve or helmet is irresponsible. Perhaps a place where the people are too poor to afford good equipment, but still want to fly. Understandable, but tragic.

It's not abt being poor. If it was, then the tourist also wouldn't b wearing it. That was his personal choice.

Does anyone know who the operator was? I assume they were held responsible for the bad carabina and partly responsible for the acrobatics, the missing reserve, the helmet and the flight path? The pilot looks anxious before the failure.

He sets the trim at 0:20. It’s the carabineri on right hand side that snaps (metal fatigue) at 0:42. Must be doing those high banking turns over and over for tourists. The carabineri is on very high load forces, especially on those turns and with a tandem weight load. Tandem gliders need more attention to parts subject to wear and fatigue. RIP to the pilot and he did best to protect passenger.

The pilot controls the glider ,only one brake, all time until the end of the flight. sent Glider to the roof , to soften the blow, it saved the life of the passenger.The bad thing is that there was no helmet and reserve parachute. Carabiner crashed at 41 seconds of video.

So I have a question, did they free fall after the carabineer failed? The descent looks slowed. I assume the other carabineer held up maybe? But when they hit the ground, you see the sail, 200 foot up.

Usually the wing will go face down into a death spiral,Im not 100% sure what happened here(maybe a torn riser loop) but what I do know is the pilot had plenty of time to throw a reserve.@Corndog Killer
