Lydia - The Sound In Your Dreams Lyrics

Are you traveling alone trying to figure out what you lack?
Are you keeping it all stored in a place inside your mind?
Cuz she like that uptown beat side
Run and feel it in my toes
Yeah, she likes that late night
Feel night want to give them all a show
But I've been, I've been thinking

And bad news never found your make up where you're waking up
And the places that you run for days and you speak enough
Sounds in your dream love, sounds in your dream love

You stared at your lips and smiled at me and said
Tonight we're going to celebrate going out of bed
Cuz she wants that uptown beat side gotta feel it in the soul
She want that whole night run wild anywhere you want to go
But I've been thinking

And bad news, never found your makeup where you're waking up
And the places that you run for days and you're speaking of
Sounds in your dream love, sounds in your dream love

Tell me all the worst things you've done
And tell me what you do, what you hate, what you love
And then tell me what you hope to never know
And then tell me what you do, what you hate, what you love
What you, what you dreaming of?

And bad news, never found your makeup where you're waking up
And the places that you run for days and you're speaking of
Sounds in your dream love, sounds in your dream love

Tell me what you hope to never know
And that tell me what you do, what you hate, what you love
What you, what you dreaming of?

Hands down fav track on the album sure the style has changed but as long as lydia keeps making tracks I'm going to keep coming back!!

  12. scottvan08

Sounds like their starting to gain some focus back although I think they slightly missed the mark again with this album. I fear Illuminate will for ever be there best album.

  23. the_Sean712

This is by far the best track on the album, in my opinion. Pretty disappointed with some of the tracks, and overall disappointed with Leighton's lyrics on this album...again. Anyhow...this one's pretty good :)

    the_Sean712

+Emmanuel Willis maybe the term "poetic" wasn't what I should have used. You're right in saying that poetic writing can be simplistic. I guess I should just say that I miss the lyrics that weren't just Leighton's attempt at writing catchy BS. When you go from lyrics like the ones from songs off of the "This December..." album to the crap (crap in my opinion...calm down, people...my opinion isn't any better than yours lol) he wrote for the lyrics on Devil and Run Wild, I dunno...it just seems like a waste to me...it's like he's not even trying anymore. Others have mentioned that he has recycled lyrics, and the new album continues the trend of padding the lyrics by repeating the same word 2 or 3 times before continuing with the rest of the line, etc. I don't think anyone can deny that the lyrics from any song off of Devil or any song off of Run Wild can't compete in any way with the lyrics from the first two albums. Devil might have had some lyrics that hit home with you personally, but when compared to the first two albums, you can't deny that the his lyric writing has gone downhill. I guess if catchy, simplistic lyrics are what some people are into, then they'll definitely be happy with the past 2 Lydia albums. However, simplistic, catchy lyrics just are not what Lydia ever used to be about. The lyrics were always a big part of what made Lydia songs so amazing...so when it sounds like Leighton is just trying to write catchy, simplistic stuff now...I dunno...it just doesn't sit well with me, or many other Lydia fans I've spoken to about this topic. Taking a song off of the new album for example, when THIS is considered the second "verse" of a song, well...that's pretty sad.

    "Colored lights and red coats,
    I've been keeping real low.
Trying to make it all seem just a little less hazy"

wow...great verse there, Leighton lol. That is just one example of the problem I have with the newer material. I will stress that if others find the past two albums to be great, and they enjoy the lyrics...hey, good for them! :) Another example to further make my point...from the new album, the song "Riverman"...can't tell you how many people I've seen say that it is their favorite song off of the new album...again, the lyrics for the 2 verses:

Well I thought about it once or twice,
No I guess it was more like all the time.
A couple oceans, a couple miles,
Wandering down brick roads and hillsides.

Back when you were on your own,
In that tiny place outside Chicago.
You told me when you're feeling low,
You would wander down hillsides and brick roads.

I'm sorry, but how anyone could think that lyrics like those can compete with something like these, I'll never understand.

Pick out what you like and call me when you're on the way.
You can spend the night and hope to sleep all day.
For me its just another week,
twenty eight was once how I dreamed.
And with your scent on my face I can leave and have you for days.
    I still can't see you.
The summer came and we got lost, all of us.
    You are nothing without her.
I still wont remember your face,
the features mix too well with this alcohol.
So we cover ourselves in your fear,
and stay to watch that moon disappear under these lights.
    This city's screaming at me.
And as you breathe the words I better go.
The sun is up and taking back all the shadows that covered this ground,
    and our feet,
    like a blanket of coal.

so, in my original post where I used the terms "poetic" and "deep" lyrics like those from "It's In Your Blood" are what I'm referring to...reading THOSE lyrics, and then the others I quoted from songs off of the new album...yeah, it's not hard to understand what I meant by using the term "poetic"...anyway...in the end, it'll always just have to come down to the "different strokes..." saying, and I've got no problems with agreeing to disagree with someone if they just don't feel the way I do. All I can say is that a lot of people who will defend Lydia to the death say that the thing that irritates them the most is when someone trash talks the new Lydia albums without explaining why...at least I can definitely explain why I'm not a fan of the newer material :) in the end, as long as there are people out there enjoying the new stuff, that's all that really matters. I just know that the new direction isn't one that I care much for **shrugs**

    Emmanuel Willis

@the_Sean712 I can understand and respect that. I see it as maybe trying something different. I don't know if this is what they'll be doing for the remainder of their life as a band, but hey, at the very least, forgive em lol. I'm sure there's a reason for it. Circumstances, stories, etc. Not saying you have to change your opinion at all. I think it's easy for people to ignore lyrics and enjoy the band's sound. They have a unique sound, and to be honest, most listeners don't pay much attention to content anyway... Sad thing to say there.
Idk what the extent of your tastes in music are, but maybe you should check out Koda. He doesn't have long verses himself, but he always provides deep content. Even though it's usually sad lol. Two sounds he just recently released are "New Blood" and "Angel". But "Staying" is one of his most popular. I'd say best but I love all his stuff

    the_Sean712

+Emmanuel Willis I'm not in Leighton's head, so I can't say one way or the other what's going on inside that brain of his. If he is, indeed, just trying something new with the style of his lyrics, then that's all good, I suppose. Maybe it's a bit harsh for me to say that his lyric writing is going "downhill"...but that's just how I see it. I guess I just don't understand why he would go from writing the lyrics he did on the first two albums to the ones he's writing currently...but hey, maybe it's not something I'm supposed to understand lol. He definitely doesn't owe me anything, and doesn't have to satisfy my wants over his own, and those of the rest of the fanbase. As I said, if there are fans of the simple, catchy stuff, then by all means, keep enjoying it :) I just know what I like, and I like the old lyrics infinitely better. I would definitely never say that Lydia are a shit band these days, and that they suck and have committed some terrible, unforgivable sin or something lol. Like I said previously, I have still purchased every album they've released...multiple times - in all available formats - because I still enjoy Lydia...I just don't enjoy them as much as I used to.

As for your recommendation, I will absolutely give Koda a listen, and appreciate you taking the time to make a suggestion. I'm glad we were able to have this little back and forth in a civil manner even though we may not agree on everything here...as long as we can both respect each other's opinion, and just leave it at that, that's what it's all about. I wish all conversations regarding Lydia would go this well, honestly lol.

    Emmanuel Willis

+the_Sean712 definitely man. I'm not one for militant arguing or debates, but conversation. No problem, concerning the recommendation. Hope you enjoy him. You have yourself a good day, man.

    Zera Rae

+Emmanuel Willis +the_Sean712 Going to chime into this conversation since prior to reading it, I constantly felt like I was the only one who had the opinion that the initial comment stated. While I think Lydia's music is always amazing, their music has transitioned a ton since Illuminate. If I were to describe it, I'd say it is now leaning more towards pop rather than Indie. I think Sean mixed up what he meant by poetic. (I am just assuming this). All of lydia's lyrics are poetic. I think we can all agree, though, that Illuminate resonated the most emotion. All of the songs tackled a darker side of Leighton and I think that introduced a very genuine and emotional side to their music. Although, if the reason their music changed was because Leighton was able to move on from this darker side of his life, then I'm happier for him :)

how did you get these songs before the album was dropped??

    amorningofsleep

    It's called a leak.

+stephen yarbrough also, 8123 shipped out the CD copies of the album 2 days ago. If they hadn't changed their shipping service from the USPS to UPS, I'd have had my copy by now...but I'm sure some people have already received theirs.
