Anybody wanna discuss what we think the music video is about? Or more specifically what the song lyrics are about? Cause I think it's about a semi-abusive relationship where drinking makes them feel like they are home and lovey with each other, and the line "you're just my favorite mother fucker I know" isn't a particularly friendly line but it's also kind of cute, so singer is calling person a mother fucker but also that they're their favorite, so I'm thinking semi-abusive. Context of the music video is maybe this beautiful hot girl who gets what she wants always (the line, "So you open up your mouth like a man" is played when she screams, "Fuck you!") and the current guy she's with wants her to better herself but she doesn't want to, she's been spoiled her whole life.


Anyone else have any thoughts or are we going to keep talking about how Lydia's sound has changed and how it is either a good or bad thing?

I wish everyone on every artist would just chill. Do the same thing gets repetitive and boring. Experimenting with different sounds is what it’s about, creating art. I’ve been listening to Lydia since 2006-07 and devil is personally my favorite. This album is definitely better than P!ATDs new record (I can have an opinion).

It has those illuminate vibes with that classic Leighton vocal echo. But it's a bit bouncier and more fun.

JoshCalamari I wouldn’t really say it has any illuminate vibes at all but it’s still a pretty fun song. Illuminate was just way too serious to be compared to this.

I think its upbeat to match the happy vibes that are contrasted by the characters selfcentered/rude ways. Its a song that sounds happy, free, and full of sunlight but realistically its a siong about a man who just aint gettin no love from his (what i hope is his ex, that chick is awful) girlfriend/wife.

I've followed this band since they released 'Smile, You've Won' on that Atticus mixtape thing. Gotta say I'm super disappointed with this, and the previous single too. The songwriting seems to have lost any of the heart that made me love them.

I understand they want to go in a direction that's more pop-focused, and I thought 'Run Wild' did that really well, I dug that album a lot - there was a lot of The Cinema in it, but it still held some of that soaring, sweeping melody aesthetic that Lydia have done so well for years. In contrast, this track and Goodside sound super flat and uninspired I have to say. The choruses feel like pre-choruses, the songs don't really lead anywhere. They sound like first demos of unfinished songs. I will still listen to the album but I'm not holding out much hope for it being much good if the singles are anything to go by.

Well to be fair run wilds singles were past life and when it gets dark out. Which i dont consider the best on that album. They like to mix up the vibes so i doubt they are all like this. They usually have a few upbeat songs but know there are alot of illuminate fans so they most likely willl not neglect that.

@Traptik Ha, well incidentally those two singles are actually some of my faves from Run Wild - but yeah I won't slam on the album until I've heard it as I'm sure there'll be something I'll enjoy on there.

I've also been listening since Atticus Volume 3. But I do like this song because I believe that Variety can be a good thing for this band I love.

Another thing, Lydia has been around 14-15 years, The music scene has changed so so much. I feel like this is there way of growing, even if is way different. The best thing about it is you can listen to any of there albums and there have there own identity.
