Lupe Fiasco - Kingdom Lyrics

[Lupe Fiasco & Damian Marley:]
Facts, from the 'Raq
Yuh

[Lupe Fiasco & Damian Marley:]
Port-au-Prince is a kingdom, Kingston is a kingdom
New Orleans is a kingdom, South Central is a kingdom
Freedom, free men are freedom
Black life is a kingdom, why kill yourself for no reason for
(Facts from the rack!) Why kill yourself for no reason for
(Yuh) Chat to dem with no meaning for

[Lupe Fiasco:]
Hold the sword like a hand should
Write your passions into manhood
Heightened malice in the land, look
Like the lights of havoc do no damn good
Half sleep from being overpreached
The other half sleep 'cause the xan good
A chief would take his hand like a thief
And make him stand like a man would
In the face of an ambush
To the back and they attack
Front of they frontline, out the plane
With no parachutes and they backpacks
Choppin' weed, and droppin' seeds
Them flowers grow where they land at
Properties on top of these
To make power flow from they handclaps
Suicide, it's suicide
You and I wouldn't do divide
Who arrived to see you survive, it means
Two would die to make you alive, it means
You should write for the two that died, it means
You arrived with the youth inside, you're king
You align with the truth inside of things
Wise to the lies that the youth provide and bring
War

Does the king make a kingdom?
Or the kingdom make the king?
Is it free when it's freedom?
Or being dumb being free?
Does the king make a kingdom?
Or the kingdom make the king?
Is it free when it's freedom?
Or being dumb being free?

[Lupe Fiasco & Damian Marley:]
Port-au-Prince is a kingdom, Kingston is a kingdom
New Orleans is a kingdom, South Central is a kingdom, yuh
Freedom, free men are freedom
Black life is a kingdom, why kill yourself for no reason for
(Babylon, ayy)
Why kill yourself for no reason, fam
(Babylon, ayy)
(Yuh) Chat to dem with no meaning, fam

[Damian Marley:]
Well if man was meant to fly, Jah woulda made us all with wings
Well he made us all with crowns, that mean seh every man a king
Your mind it is your castle, mind can govern how you think
The ghetto is a kingdom, cure not all the gully stink
No one can change mi mind, no I am thoroughly convinced
My woman is a queen that bring forth more princess and prince
And if you add up the equation it must mean I'm royal since
Everyone in my surroundings is of royal heritage
Not everyone of royal blood dress up in a mink
Whole heap of king and queen with dem roof make out of zinc
So Jah bless the baby mother washing nappy in a sink
And ah raise the generation weh ah take it to the brink

Does the king make a kingdom?
Or does a kingdom make a king?
This hidden empire of kings and queens, that no one's noticing
Does a king make a kingdom?
Or does a kingdom make a king?
This hidden empire of kings and queens, that no one's noticing

[Lupe Fiasco & Damian Marley:]
Port-au-Prince is a kingdom, Kingston is a kingdom
New Orleans is a kingdom, South Central is a kingdom, yuh
Freedom, free men are freedom
Black life is a kingdom, why kill yourself for no reason for
(Babylon, ain't no king)
Why kill yourself for no reason for
(Babylon, ain't no king)
(Yuh) Chat to dem with no meaning for
Chat to dem with no meaning for

[Lupe Fiasco:]
Only fools would run from a dead man
My mind is an excellent weapon
I will not die for a label, let's come to the table
And put together all our blessings
Our blessings religious, our blessings ability
Our blessings materially, identify enemy
Disconnect from the mentally
Put all of our energy into the kingdom
Back to the front on my way now
God has to show you your way 'round
Tired, I watch while you lay down
You lie while I sleep and you are [?]
Take a part of my piece and inherit the heritage
We're not American dreamin'
We're realizing a kingdom
Only fools would run from a dead man
My mind is an excellent weapon
I will not die for a label, let's come to the table
And put together all our blessings
Our blessings religious, our blessings ability
Our blessings materially, identify enemy
Disconnect from the mentally
Put all of our energy into the kingdom
Back to the front on my way now
God has to show you your way 'round
Tired, I watch while you lay down
You lie while I sleep and you are [?]
Take a part of my piece and inherit the heritage
We're not American dreamin'
We're realizing a kingdom

The Marley family is amazing. From all generations they have proven that music just somehow flows through their blood. Even the younger nephews (e.g Skip) have shown that they can stand as individuals rather than just exploit the Marley name for fame and publicity.

  26. s.... ....

  27. d.... g....

All these rastas do is judge people and then talk about they kings and queens, and talk down on regular people like theyre better than the rest of us. Damian inherited his Dad’s legacy and now he try to act like he better than everyone.

    d.... g....

As far as rastafari, what do you really know about him? Do some research son, he was embarrassed that reggae praised him and didnt really like the reggae movement. He was a racist oppressor who was killed by his own people and buried in a sewer. Sad but true. Know the truth hurts bruh

    d.... g....

Everyone is royal heritage. We're all related... maybe if your white washed brain listened to some of his discography, you wouldn't be degrading a religion of peace.

    d.... g....

Most people hate white people. We're historically tyrannical, and we're generalized because of it, and since we live in white wash America, we have a tendency to hate...we are taught to hate...that's why we're hated

    d.... g....

Hey highschool learner - stfu. You tryin to sound smart but you aint sayin nothin.

    d.... g....

You said some dumb shit. “Historically tyranical”!! Oh wow I guess African tribes who killed other africans arent considered “historically tyranical”! Lmao. We’re all royalty?? Gtfo and go play your video games son. Your not on my level

  38. V.... L....

    When real kings collaborate.....
    Big ups bless up🎧🎤👑🚀🛰

  39. B.... N....

Lupe is too underrated for a rapper with three albums certified classic. I mean like not even Yasiin Bey has that...which makes me think that maybe the companies that publish these lists of "all time greats" are organizations from New York. Check them out. Busta Rhymes & Jadakiss maybe consistent but they don't have classic albums to back them up. With all the influence Snoop has had on artists such as Wiz & Curren$y would you say he had only one classic album.

    B.... N....

Bhongo Nkumanda lupes problem is he doesn’t go recognized because he’s so inconsistent. So he gets written off as a “fell off”. The average listener has a very short attention span and you’re only as good as your last album. Look at his track record. Grabbed everyone’s attention with F&L and The Cool....then dropped Lasers. Made F&L2(Which was pretty good, but no where near as good as it should have been considering it’s a sequel to F&L). Then he drops T&Y which was amazing......then falls off again with Drogas Light. Once you’ve fallen off a certain number of times, people stop paying attention. His twitter antics don’t help his appeal much either

    B.... N....

If your relying on companies that publish rankings then you already lost.

    B.... N....

Black Star is a classic, Black on Both Sides is a classic, The Ecstatic is a classic

  40. r.... n....

How y’all gonna ignore Damien Marley’s verse. Beautiful. Always hear him restoring people rather than boasting, staying true to his bloodline, that’s a true king.

    r.... n....

    Dave has good ears

    r.... n....

    Only about the song though

    r.... n....

@dave g I'm Jamaican, and I'm not here to heighten Damian's verse because it wasn't all that, but at the same time I think you're degrading it... He wasn't just saying he's a king. He started off his verse saying that people should utilize their mind and be comfortable within their own skin, and not to be programmed by society, or let society dictate what you are, or how you should live. He's saying no matter where you reside, even if that be the ghetto, you should still brandish it as your kingdom no matter how bad it is. This was basically the focal point of his message, and he even follows it up with the hook "does a king make a kingdom, or does a kingdom make a king?" A rhetorical question, obviously that stresses the message he's sending. In my opinion, the verse wasn't special, but it provides a good message and it's far from being trash. I will make the assumption that you're not from the Caribbean, and you found Damian difficult to fully understand because he did mix a few words in patois.

    r.... n....

    Bob raised them boys right

    r.... n....

I think some people in this thread are missing the message of the verse lol

    The lyrics:
