Lucinda Williams - Minneapolis Lyrics

I've been waiting for you to come back
Since you left Minneapolis
Snow covers the streetlamps and the windowsills
The buildings and the brittle crooked trees
Dead leaves of December
Thin skinned and splintered
Never gotten used to this bitter winter

I've been wasted, angry and sad
Since you left Minneapolis
I wish my thoughts were pure like the driven snow
Like the heavens and the spring's virgin buds
But they strangle me with their sin
Fill me up with poison
Black clouds have covered up the sun again

I can always trace it back
To that night in Minneapolis
Here on the seventh floor in a room I can't call mine
Deadbolt on the door, do not disturb sign
Shaking and trembling
On the clean white linen
Slivers of starlight across the ceiling

A dozen yellow roses
All that's left in Minneapolis
I wish I'd never seen your face or heard your voice
You're a bad pain in my gut
I wanna spit you out
Open up this wound again
Let my blood flow red and thin
Into the glistening
Into the whiteness
Into the melting snow of Minneapolis

Lucinda Williams Minneapolis Comments
  1. B.... B....

STILL my favorite song of hers. xox

  2. R.... M....

My absolute all time favourite sad song. So beautiful and raw and honest. Milo

  3. D.... C....

I like Carrie ... and Jason ... and Patsy Cline before them ... and anyone else you care to name from the country crowd.  But Lucinda has 'em all beat for the purest country sound. She's fantastic.  But I need someone to explain to me why she gets ignored by the Nashville crowd.  Sumpthin' just don't add up.  The woman is g-r-e-a-t.  Period.

    D.... C....

OK, will try to explain:" SOME feel the rain ,others just get wet"

    D.... C....

tells me exactly nuthin'.  but nice try for nuance.

  4. K.... ....

    What an annoying 'song'.

    K.... ....

What an annoying comment (and I'm not so sure the apostrophe's are necessary.)

    K.... ....

The Void why is my comment annoying, and why aren't apostrophes necessary?

    K.... ....

Because "you" have a "tin" ear.

  5. R.... L....

Her best song. Very addictive - painfully sad and evocative.

  6. b.... ....

    Stunningly beautiful

  7. V.... R....

This woman is one of the most underrated names in Country Music's history. She's awesome.

  8. A.... A....

omfg soooooooooh minnesotan ! make me miss home while i kill myself slowly in ky

  9. r.... ....

This is one of the most bitter and heartfelt love songs that the human race will ever pen. Shakes you right down to your bones no matter how many times you listen.

    r.... ....

roundmidnightsuttree There is no such thing as the 'human race'.

We are all human beings (some more than others), but there are several different species of humans on Earth, and in the heavens.

  10. G.... W....

Just how wonderful is this? So sad & so beautiful. I can listen to it over & over & it just gets better...

  11. s.... ....

This is a great song from a great artist. I wonder what the background story is behind this song. I'm sure there is one.

  12. T.... V....

Yeah, Mrs. Williams reserves a nice little corner of my heart. W.W.T.'s came out just as I was getting divorced, and I fell in love w/ Lucinda Williams' music. World Without Tears in particular. Great stuff.

  13. J.... M....

I adore this song, first heard Lu doing Gentle on my Mind over the Talladega Nights end credits and she has since become one of my favorite artists.Saw her in New Orleans a few years ago before Mardi gras. Great show
