Lovin' Spoonful, The - You're A Big Boy Now Lyrics

I know there's things you never thought before
That have to do with walkin' out old doors
You've been prepared as long as time allowed.

Well I don't know how but you're a big boy now
Come on and take a bow 'cause you're a big boy now.

You know the girls are taking notice of you
They say your hair is getting curly too
So shave today, you'll shave tomorrow as well
You're run by you and not a class-room bell.

And I don't know how but you're a big boy now.

And the great big world daddy threw before you
With the pretty faces and the claws that tore you
And it's all so different when you get to sources
And love will make you strong as a team of wild horses.

I know there's things you never thought before
That have to do with walkin' out old doors
You've been prepared as long as time allowed.

Well I don't know how but you're a big boy now
Come on and take a bow 'cause you're a big boy now.

Come on and take a bow 'cause you're a big boy now

  7. A.... J....

The version featured in that episode of FRIENDS was not this one, it was the one sung by John Sebastian (alone) playing the guitare: John Sebastian - You're A Big Boy Now

    A.... J....

It's funny how we remember a song or a tune during those milestone moments. As a new father, I instantly thought of my son while hearing it, and we shared the same emotion Joe. Thank you for sharing your experience,

I was sitting in a rocking chair at NYU Hospital 18 years ago today, holding my newly-born son in my arms and singng this song to him with tears in my eyes. Now he's away at college. He is a big boy now, and when he called me today I was all teary-eyed at the sound of his voice. What can I say?

    コッポラ監督初期の青春フィルム、"You A Big Boy Now",ラヴィン・スプーンフルのコーラスが嬉しかった!ただし、日本では正式公開しなかった! #eiga

  18. D.... ....

I have John doing this (with just an acoustic guitar that's plugged in), and another song live on the Dean Martin show. Unfortunatley it's on a betamax tape and I dont have a Betamax no more.

  26. s.... ....

    @vocalist92 fuck u

  27. y.... m....

one of the most pleasant, relaxed voices of all time, he could fit in the same category as smokey, ottis and alot of the great mo-town singers.

  28. w.... j....

    rob and big bitch lmao

  29. r.... j....

One of the better, but unappreciated Spoonful songs.

  30. b.... ....

A heavily orchestrated slicker version was on the 'B' side of Six O Clock.
I prefer that one but this is okay too.

  31. C.... C....

This recording is from the album You're a big boy now,(on cd available together with What's up Tiger Lily) which has also 2 other versions: Dixieland Big Boy and "The Finale"
Sebastians solo album "John B. Sebastian" has another version. The 45 record is indeed different.

  32. V.... ....

I like quite a lot of Sixties songs for my age lol ^_^ Beatles, Lovin' Spoonful etc.

  33. A.... ....

This must be a Re-Recording because this song sounds noticeably different from the flip side that I just listened to on the 45 record. The instrumental near the ending of the record isn't even on the 45 rpm version. Wonder where this version is taken from?
Still, this is an excellent song. Thanks.

    A.... ....

The instrumental near the end is on the version I grew up with, and that was on a greatest hits album of theirs we had in the 70s. "Shave today, and shave tomorrow",this song must have been JUST before the hippie era.

  34. i.... ....

it used to be on YT but i can no longer find it...

  35. i.... ....

yea but john sebastian does the best version of it

  36. d.... ....

Another great Spoonful track! These guys really gelled - musically and vocally. (Has the film ever been shown on British tv?)

  37. r.... j....

Walt, right. I believe it was on the "John B Sebastian" album..his first solo endeavor.

  38. f.... ....

I remember the movie, it was awesome.

  39. s.... ....

a young richard dreyfuss starred in a movie titled the apprenticeship of duddy kravitz, anyone familiar with the screen version of this song and who performed it ?...i recall it was instumental

  40. I.... ....

For whatever reason, this was the only Lovin' Spoonful single that didn't chart at all. Perhaps it wasn't psychedelic enough for the summer of '67.

  41. G.... H....

I love this song and the movie too
