Lovin' Spoonful, The - Voodoo In My Basement Lyrics

Voodoo in my basement, you'll know that it's true
All my dirty little people are gonna have some fun with you.

I could smile like diamonds and be as harmless as a shmoo
I'll use the voodoo in my basement if I set my mind on you.

If you wanna know, know you wanna ask for one embrace
If I can I'll drop, drop a can o' gasoline in your face.

If I rob and steal your presents, I'll get them back before I go
It may look like holy giving but it's the devil in my soul.

I got a banshee on my back porch and she plays with magic pearls
My father was a warlock and his son eats little girls.

Voodoo in my basement, you'll know that it's true
All my dirty little people are gonna have some fun with you.

Darn, wish I would have found this song in time for Halloween. This is incredible

I guess I shouldn't be surprised to come across a funny/scary blues song by a band that named itself after a Willie Dixon/Howlin' Wolf song.  Someone making a slasher film oughta' work this into the background music.

Zally at his best, and doing a great job at tapping into his inner Howlin' Wolf!

bit like smoke stack lightning the start . . .good though

@freqazoidiak:Also, I didnt mean they invented jugband music (separate statement). To me, the early LS is derived from the original mountain music. A lot of the 'genres' like 'metal' etc are coined by fans and the press. Most musicians dont categorize music into 'genres' anyway. BB King once said, 'what is rock and roll ? - its blues speeded up', he's right. Its all based on I-IV-V (as is 'metal'). To me , its either clever and inventive or not, irrespective of what so-called 'genre' it is.

@freqazoidiak: I meant it in reference to us fans at the time. I grew up playing and listening to all sorts of music in the 60's and, at the time, 65-66, I never heard anyone (including the music press) break down popular music in to the genres you have today. Yes, there was jazz, blues, country. But within 'popular' (pop) music, the 'sub-genres' came in around 67. My reference to them inventing their own style/sound comes direct from an interview with Zal I have.

It`s not only john sebastian band!

All the years I listened to this song as a kid I never knew that Zally was imitating Holwin' Wolf with those "whooohooos".

I don't know Zally imitated Howlin' Wolf either. I had the original vinyl lp.

There was no such thing as 'metal' when this was recorded. Its what the LS called Jugband Music. This band was a true original. They invented their own form of music. Like Zal said ' We didnt copy anyone, when you heard us, you knew it was the Spoonful'.

One of the best tracks from Hums of the Lovin Spoonful, but most of the tracks are awesome. It's one of my favorite albums ever. Great job with this.
