Lovin' Spoonful, The - Summer In The City Lyrics

Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity?
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city
All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head

But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come on, come on and dance all night
Despite the heat it'll be all right

And babe, don't you know it's a pity
That the days can't be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city

Cool town, evening in the city
Dressing so fine and looking so pretty
Cool cat, looking for a kitty
Gonna look in every corner of the city
Till I'm wheezing like a bus stop
Running up the stairs, gonna meet you on the rooftop

But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come on, come on and dance all night
Despite the heat it'll be all right

And babe, don't you know it's a pity
That the days can't be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city

Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity?
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city
All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head

But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come on, come on and dance all night
Despite the heat it'll be all right

And babe, don't you know it's a pity
That the days can't be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city

Go out and find a girl, in the summer, in the city... Brilliant advice to all men and women then and now, in the summer, in the city.

I was born in 1998, but I love this song. I associate it with the Summer of Love, was there a link between this song and the Summer of Love?

    V.... ....

The Lovin Spoonful were formed in NYC, the summer of love was really a West Coast thing.

    V.... ....

This was actually a year earlier. 1966.
The Summer of Love was in 1967

    V.... ....

It must have influenced a great many people who later went on to star heavily in the following 18 months. The 1967 vibe is certainly there. The summer of love was a global phenomena. This West Coast idea is just smoke and mirrors.

    j.... p....

Untalented? That's an odd choice of words, you don't have to like them but those are all talented musicians. They just have different talents than The Lovin' Spoonful.

  11. j.... p....
