Lovin' Spoonful, The - Bald Headed Lena Lyrics

Bald Headed Lena
Has anybody seen her
Cute as she can be
She's got a cue ball head
That's hard as lead
But she's all right with me

Bald Headed Lena
Has anybody seen her
Cute as she can be
She can't wear no wig
Cause her head's too big
But she's all right with me

Tricky Tessie, Messy Bessie
Both gals are full of stuff
Mella Ella, Crazy Stella
Both them gals are tough

Now you take Daisy
She's so crazy
Don't know night from day
Silly Tilly, Lyin' Lily
Take them all away

Sloppy Gerty, she's so dirty
Skinny Minnie she's too lean
Tracy's face is out of place
And Joanie's down right mean
Now you take Lizzie
She's so dizzy
She went and lost her mind
Ella Mae might save the day
but she's deaf dumb and blind

On this day in 1967 {March 19th} the Lovin' Spoonful performed "Baldheaded Lena" on the CBS-TV Sunday-night musical variety program, 'The Ed Sullivan Show'...
The song was track four on side two from the quartet's second studio album, 'Daydream', the album would peak at #10 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart...
Two tracks from the album made the Top 100 chart,"Daydream" {at #2*} and "You Didn't Have To Be So Nice" {at #10}...
Between 1965 and 1969 the New York City-based band had fourteen records on the Top 100 chart, seven made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Summer In The City", for three weeks on August 7th, 1966...
Their one Top 20 record was "Darling Be Home Soon", it peaked at #15 {for 1 week} in 1967, and the song was featured in the movie 'You're A Big Boy Now'...
Sadly, guitarist 'Zal' Yanovsky passed away at the young age of 57 on December 13th, 2002...
    May he R.I.P.
    * "Daydream" peak at #2 for two weeks, the two weeks it was at #2, the #1 record for both those weeks was "(You’re My) Soul and Inspiration" by the Righteous Brothers...

My Fathers favorite song to this day.....he is 68 years old.  I am 35, and my niece is 15....I showed this tune to my niece and she began jumping around dancing to it.  It's amazing how this song still has an effect on people to this day. :)

I have told people for years this was a song. Now I have proof! I love it!!!

  8. Cre8Thought41

It was a hit at basic training at Ft. Bragg, NC in '67. We'd sing it at three in morning marching in from the ranges. Chicken Run road was the only one I remember. What a time.

  9. GRHennigh

She's all right with me, too! Great stuff!

@MultiMomentoMori I've got a friend named Joy. She's adorable and not blad. OR bald.

These guys were fun!! I know this was a million years ago,and that Sebastian does concerts on his own,but does The Spoonful still exist in any concert-giving form?

    lee shafer

Sebastian's voice is shot-really shot! still appears-the spoonful still exist and tour but zal is dead so.....

I believe Joe was heading a band called the Lovin' Spoonful.

  13. Cletonico

i'm searching the lyrics for this song but i can't find them, do you know where could i?

  14. IDLERACER

No, Harry Nilsson's "The Most Beautiful World In The World" has a gargling solo that even rivals this one.

  15. captainsoul1953

Is this the only track in history with a gargling solo?..could well be...i played this more than the a side

captainsoul1953 -1953 WAS A GOOD YEAR!I WAS BORN 3-13-1953.Captain Soul, there is ONE other song with a gurgling solo of sorts, and it's from the soundtrack of the movie,"A CLOCKWORK ORANGE".The song is called,"I WANNA MARRY A LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER (and live by the side of the sea)".I have no idea who sings it,but in1975 I played it about 57 or 58 times in a row on the night of the 4th of july in order to blow the minds of my brother's friends who were all taking red windowpane LSD and boasting about how they were 'acid veterans'and nothing or no one could ruin their "groovy trip"I PROVED THEM WRONG BUT IN THE PROCESS I TRIPPED MYSELF OUT AS WELL!!!
