My favorite singer of all time by far.

What she's saying is she's moved and given herself/himself to the devil. The fallen angels came to create sin on earth. She's endorsing it. She wants the sins forgiven. So true. But not truth.

I have absolutely no religious affiliation but this song gives me a religious experience each time I listen to it.

Her real name is Patty Lee Ramey not trying to be snarky about it but this misinformation is everywhere. Even on Wikipedia. My info comes from her family.

Although never given the credit, Patty was the best of her time. I know that I can always recognize her voice, even in her background vocals. She is so special.

His voice his good, it's unique. Some songs fit others better. Typically, whoever you hear sing it first, is who you find sings it better. I love many of Billy Joe's songs and his voice, but this song does suit her. They're two different worlds you are comparing.

One of the best country songs ever - bar none. If this was the only song Shaver ever wrote, he would still be one of the great songwriters of all time.
His own original take is good, but when you add Pattis gorgeous voice and hubby Emory Gordy Jr's excellent musical skills and taste - the result is awesome!
