Lou Reed - The Heroine Lyrics

The heroine stood up on the deck
The ship was out of control
The bow was being ripped to shreds
Men were fighting down below
The sea had pummeled the boat for so long
That they knew nothing but fear

And the baby's in the box, he thinks the door is locked
The sea is in a state, the baby learns to wait
For the heroine, ooohh for the heroine
Locked in his defense, he waits for the heroine

The mast is cracking as he waves are slapping
Sailors roll across the deck
And when they thought none was looking
They would cut a weaker man's neck
While the heroine dressed in a virgin white dress
Tried to steer the mighty ship
But the raging storm wouldn't hear of it
They were in for a long trip

Baby's in the box, he thinks the door is locked
He finds it hard to breathe, drawing in the sea
And where's the heroine to fire off the gun
To calm the raging seas and let herself be seized by the

Baby in the box, he thinks the door is locked
The woman has the keys
But there is no moment she can seize
Here's to the heroine, who transcends all the men
Who are locked inside the box
Will the lady let them out
Ooohh the heroine, ooohh the heroine
Strapped to the mast, the pale ascendant heroine...

Heroin fatalities over the decades comes up short in comparison to Oxycodone deaths in the last few years.
Big Pharma knew it would be great if you got addicted.

It's weird to be here, in Buenos Aires (where Heroin is just a distant story, because it haven't spread to this part of the world) listening to this eternal song at 2 pm, reading all these comments. I can only imagine how many stories you people have to tell. It's just amazing to have that connection, even tho I probably never ever get to meet none of you. Greetings from Argentina!

    A.... X....

I'm in the USA and did heroin for 10 years, starting when I was 18. I've been clean many years now, but in those 10 years I've seen many things that most people I know can't even imagine. I rarely talk about these things and it seems like a different lifetime, like someone else's past and not mine. It's a different, underground world to that of everyone else.

    A.... X....

@My name is Tim, I'm a lesser known character Yeah, I can't magine what sort of things you have been through, to be honest, but it's great that you could take a look into that dimension and you're still here to talk about that. You must be very wise. I hope you're doing good =)

    A.... X....

    @Aylen X Thanks, I'm well. I hope you are too :)

I'm not wise, I was just very lucky. Some people I knew did not have as much luck.

  45. t.... t....

    I don't know just where I'm going
But I'm gonna try for the kingdom, if I can
'Cause it makes me feel like I'm a man
When I put a spike into my vein
And I tell you things aren't quite the same
When I'm rushing on my run
And I feel just like Jesus' son
And I guess that I just don't know
And I guess that I just don't know
    I have made big decision
I'm gonna try to nullify my life
'Cause when the blood begins to flow
When it shoots up the dropper's neck
When I'm closing in on death
You can't help me now, you guys
And all you sweet girls with all your sweet talk
You can all go take a walk
    And I guess I just don't know
And I guess that I just don't know
I wish that I was born a thousand years ago
I wish that I'd sailed the darkened seas
On a great big clipper ship
Going from this land here to that
On a sailor's suit and cap
    Away from the big city
Where a man cannot be free
Of all the evils of this town
And of himself and those around
Oh, and I guess that I just don't know
Oh, and I guess that I just don't know
Heroin, be the death of me
Heroin, it's my wife and it's my life
Because a mainline into my vein
Leads to a center in my head
And then I'm better off than dead
Because when the smack begins to flow
    I really don't care anymore
About all the Jim-Jims in this town
And all the politicians making crazy sounds
And everybody putting everybody else down
And all the dead bodies piled up in mounds
'Cause when the smack begins to flow
And I really don't care anymore
Ah, when that heroin is in my blood
And that blood is in my head
Then thank God that I'm as good as dead
And thank your God that I'm not aware
And thank God that I just don't care
    And I guess I just don't know
Oh, and I guess I just don't know

  46. J.... L....

Still, by far, his best album. Saw Reed perform this in 1975 at the Hammersmith Odeon with the same band, awesome gig...

Heroin, like this music, has the power to take you beyond who you are now and transform you into a god. But the music stops and the heroin runs out and you are again......you.

Lou Reed wrote this in 1964. What else was happening in 1964? The Beatles were writing "She Loves You". Everyone thinks the Beatles were so far ahead, but ...

  93. A.... W....

Lou was high on crystal meth during this time. Lou Reed was a fulltime speedfreak for twenty years + he was never a heroin junkie he just wrote this song about it. White light White heat was Lou's anthem. Check the facts fruends! - that said my heart goes out to all hooked on Heroin, one day at a time, little by little TRY to cut the amount down until it's done. It's most difficult but it can be done with patience and it beats methadone
