Lou Reed - New York Telephone Conversation Lyrics
I was sleeping, gently napping
when I heard the phone
Who is on the other end talking
am I even home
did you hear what they said
Just a New York conversation
rattling in my head
Oh, oh, my, and what shall we wear
Oh, oh, my, and who really cares
Just a New York conversation
gossip all of the time
Did you hear who did what to whom
Who has touched and who has dabbled
here in the city of shows
Openings, closings, bad repartee
everybody knows
Oh, how sad and why do we call
Oh, I'm glad to hear from you all
I am calling, yes I am calling
just to speak to you
For I know this night will kill me
if I can't be with you
If I can't be with you

on certain songs he 's got that bob Dylan sound in his voice
Black satire 😎
un délice ( Lou & David )
Pure Magic!!!
Does everyone know everyone’s Business in every little Town everywhere I doubt it, yea only know so much about stuff...?
First 11 seconds on my voice mail during the afternoon.
Beautiful
So New Yawk I need a bagel with a schmear and Doctor Brown's cream soda now.
perhaps the campest song ever written.
Isn't it just?

Since i know this song i often unwillingly say "Oh my" in all kinds of situations. Silly little tick
So There!
J'adore cette chanson !
How poignant that the chorus has backing vocals from David bowie
Think bowie produced this and was on a few tracks backing vocals
@Ian Clarke yes you're correct David Bowie did produce Transformer
He also does the backing vocals for Satellite of Love.
What a lovely little ditty!
If Lou was recording Transformer today, this song would be called "New York Twitter Conversation".
My new favorite song!
This is so dumb, I love it
I miss my New York Conversations so
this reed song sucks
and you swallow :)
What a great little song. and I lovel the way he says and who really cares?
I heard this song in the background of teh Lou Reed interview in Sydney. That interview had me laughing so hard the way he was just totally mindfucking the journalists. Love you Lou Reed, you legend! :)
that's the best interview ever
for miss H. my english teacher:this song is wonderfull !
REST IN PEACE
social commentary, man.. it's truth that just SOUNDS "fun" ;-)
Dude. Fuck off. I didnt even know he died until a little after your comment. Please fuck off, yea Lou wasnt the greatest man, but he was an amazing musician and songwriter.
Fuck! Rip Lou
adeus lou
Lou Reed = New York. RIP Lou..
RIP bro
this is a cool little jingle
Its not a joke. its a new york conversation. its a fun song, not a joke. dont ever say that to lou reed, he would get really offended lol
i used to listen this song when i was a child to get asleep
Exactly.
David Bowie on backing vocals
Imagínese en una cárcel notcoreana y no parar.
I feel like this is a joke song :P Good though
Berlin. This too.
Jarno Järveläinen
No.

FRAAAAAAAAAAN
anybody who doesn't like this song has rocks in their head!
This is the musical equivalent of Jacqueline Susann and friends 'doing lunch'! Sheer genius!
@HereForBarbara Yep! That is indeed the Thin White EMPEROR (higher than a duke or even a king)
A great little funny duet between reed and bowie
definetly his best album
I bought Berlin on the back of this album and when I heard the baby cryin it upset me and I have not played it since
They're diametric opposites. This is a fun, poppy, campy album. Berlin is an emotional train wreck, but with some great moments.
this song kinda reminds me of bike from the pink floyd album relics
@Shermanicus : It never is. If there would be a measurable scale of genius, I would be one myself.
@vulvasonic yeah but that's not an objective or generalised measure of genius
@Shermanicus : It is genius in the world of showbusiness. :-)
@vulvasonic i hate it when people so liberally use the term 'genius' to describe people in showbusiness...this is not 'genius'
Sometimes genius is an over used tag . This track is like a nursery rhyme on the album the censors ran away from sticking their fingers in their ears shouting no no no . Mary Whitehouse and the savile defending BBC would of banned it if it was a single . Gobshites
"oooooow my, and what should we wear'HAHAHAH AWSOME
Lou Reed has a great sense of humor. Transformer is as genius as it is humoristic.
it's david bowie
i admit lou reed is a genius but this shit is pathetic, this sounds like somethin out seseme street, any wannabe children music writer could have come up with this
Definitely not, the chord progression, harmony and melody, are brilliant
You don't know as much as you think,Henry.
Lou (along with VU) is considered to be potentially the biggest influence in the creation of punk, and what’s punk without some humour? Honestly I think it’s nice to have something more lighthearted in a record that serves as a display of genius creativity. The better you pull off styles outside of your own, the more fluent you are as an artist.
I'd like to think that is Maureen Tucker on backup vocals. But I'm probably wrong in that.
It’s David Bowie
He is the best!! :))
Correct. Bowie backed alot of Transformer tracks. He produced it between making Ziggy and Aladdin Sane.
arabiansanchez mick Ronson produced it..Bowie was there but he handed it over mainly to Ronson..Bowie’s main contribution was vocals. The genius of this album and its success is a result mainly of the fairly unknown contribution of the Mick Ronson
i love lou reed. he is sexy in a sort of strung out kind of way.
yes, agreed.
Been a trip since day 1 that I heard it,, about '78 or so.. insanity!!!
damn if it happens every night!
who is on the other end talking?
To all the You Tube Drama/guilds drama, they should listen to that song more often!
