Lou Reed - New Sensations Lyrics

I don't like guilt be it stoned or stupid
drunk and disorderly I ain't no cupid
Two years ago today I was arrested on Christmas Eve

I don't want pain, I want to walk not be carried
I don't want to give it up, I want to stay married
I ain't no dog tied to a parked car

Ooohhh, new sensations
Ooohhh, new sensations

Talkin' 'bout some new sensations
Talkin' 'bout some new sensations

I want the principles of a timeless muse
I want to eradicate my negative views
And get rid of those people who are always on a down

It's easy enough to tell what is wrong
but that's not what I want to hear all night long
Some people are like human tuinals

Ooohhh, new sensations
Ooohhh, ooohhh, new sensations

Talkin' 'bout some new sensations
Talkin' a new sensations

I took my GPZ out for a ride
the engine felt good between my thighs
The air felt cool, it's was forty degrees outside

I rode to Pennsylvania near the Delaware Gap
sometimes I got lost and had to check the map
I stopped at a roadside diner for a burger and a coke

There were some country folk and some hunters inside
somebody got themselves married and somebody died
I went to the juke box and played a hillbilly song

They was arguing about football as I waved and went outside
and I headed for the mountains feeling warm inside
I love that GPZ so much, you know that I could kiss her

Ooohhh, new sensations
Ooohhh, ooohhh, new sensations

Talkin' 'bout your new sensations
Talkin' new sensations

Ooohhh, new sensations
Ooohhh, new sensations
Ooohhh, new sensations
Ooohhh, new sensations
Ooohhh, new sensations
...

  8. N.... ....

Pretty much copied by The Grateful Dead three years later for Hell in Bucket.
Listen and tell me if I'm wrong.

    N.... ....

Yep.  You're way wrong.  Hell in a Bucket was first played on 5/13/83.
Now, do not EVER bring varsity level Grateful Dead into a JV Lou Reed discussion.  Poseur.

    N.... ....

@Sean Dewalt Did you actually LISTEN and compare? Ok, maybe Lou heard the Dead play it. Or maybe Lou was playing it before then. Or maybe they both magically came up the songs at around the same time. The point is the songs sound very similar and have the same subject matter. Relax dude. No one is going to court. . . . Fans are so fuckin defensive.

  9. j.... ....

This is Lou kind of saying despite all that went before he's is finally appreciating being just a regular guy....

  18. R.... R....

Ride your own ride and to hell with what anyone else thinks !!

  19. J.... W....

Takes me back to when I worked a delivering calor gas (butane/propane) when I was supposed to be at school (30 odd year ago). Cutting about Glasgow, Scotland with Big Mick, smoking a spliff and occasionally having to avoid getting robbed.... great learning curve, learnt a lot - good times!!

  20. s.... ....

Even an average Lou Reed song is beautiful because Lou Reed is singing on it.

  21. N.... N....

I love this song it is part of my child hood

  22. H.... ....

    That bass...

    H.... ....

    Stole my comment

    H.... ....

Fernando Saunders is one of my favourite bass players, I have been trying to emulate his style for a long time, his ability to play so melodically while at the same time keep something of an ostinato going, and on a fretless bass of all things, is just so awe inspiring

    H.... ....

    Fernando, yeah he is great.

    H.... ....

    Anyone have the tab?

    H.... ....

    That guitar 🎸 !

  23. L.... L....

  26. M.... G....

I have to thank my friend Christy for this one, its nearly perfect...x

    M.... G....

The only way that it could be perfect is if it never ended I'm sure

    M.... G....

    Yeah, buy her dinner

  27. j.... p....

    J.... D....

"Two years ago today I was arrested on Christmas Eve"

I really like this song, but that line doesn't work at all.

    J.... D....

Yeah it makes perfect sense in the Lou Reed world ;)
But the lyrics: I don't want to give it up, I want to stay married
I ain't no dog tied to a parked car.
Is wrong, it should say; I dont want to stay married, i guess its a misprint check out his live shows, he always sing; I dont want to stay married.

  35. d.... ....

I've often think how great this record is... almost a forgotten piece of Lou's legacy.   The drum machine makes me cringe at times, but I guess Lou was messing around with us by showing that the digital age was coming to fruition, whether we like it or not.

    d.... ....

any way lets just crack another cheers man

    d.... ....

I don't know why Lou Reed would think this was something we needed him to show us, but also, that's not a drum machine, although I guess it's supposed to sound like one, yeah.

I do really like the song though.

    d.... ....

Drum machine be damned. This is all about Fernando Saunders.

    d.... ....

I know what you mean about the drum machine, but you're gonna just have to take your purist side out for an afternoon spa session and just enjoy what you rightly described as an almost forgotten piece of work. Well it was the eighties. Lol.😂

    d.... ....

    The drum machine is great.
This is similar to Donald Fagen Nightfly

  36. H.... B....

ahh i love my gpz 1100 such a beautiful old thing

    H.... B....

    I loved my 900 Z1 so much.

    H.... B....

Those gpz's were beautiful pure beasts
