funny how no one called him a racist for doing this song, and he wasnt a racist,,,but today they sure would call him racist,,,,funny how times change,,,

See Lou Reed had his fans, he was not a big hit radio guy, his fans were city kids, college students, & precocious high schoolers. He was not known in racist suburbia or rural areas. We got it. We got the joke, and the reflection of what many thought. A lot of us admire the black man swagger, culture, & creativity. So know this wasn't a big deal. Had tipper gore claimed her daughter heard it, then it might have become an issue.

People had a sense of humor back in those days.

The only ist that Lou was was satirist that's about it. I kind of want to apologize for him in a contradictory manner in that he was extremely high during this phase but nonetheless he function fairly well. His efforts were no worse or better than other peers. Disco and Punk ruled there was loose still in the underground. I agree with everyone else you couldn't get away with something like this today because nobody has a sense of humor and nobody can see the inherent w i t here.
