Lord Huron - Frozen Pines Lyrics

Deep into the night with the moonlight as my guide
I go wander through the pines and make my way to nature's shrines
and I look up to the sky and I know you're still alive,
but I wonder where you are I call your name into the dark.

I wake up in the morning and I don't know where I've been.
All alone on a mountainside, and huddled in the wind.
And it feels like I've been away for an era but nothing has changed at all.
And it feels like I was with you, but what did we do and where have you gone?

On the night you disappeared, I wish I had seen it clear.
But a strange light in the sky was shining right into my eyes.
There was no one else in sight, just the endless frozen pines.
but I wonder all they know 'cause they don't die and they don't grow.

I am ready to follow you even though I don't know where.
I will wait in the night until you decide to take me there.
Cause I know I don't wanna stay here forever, it's time to be moving on.
I don't wanna be the only one livin' when all of my friends are gone.

I will be waiting for you on the other side of the frozen pines.
I'm gonna find a way through there's another life beyond the line.
I will be waiting for you on the other side of the frozen pines.
I'm gonna find a way through there's another life beyond the line.

Yes, I do also. I only wish I had gotten to share this music with my son. He would have loved listening to this band when he was camping alone in the Gila Wilderness.

  15. A.... F....

You all realize almost all of the songs are testifying to spiritual journeys to seek meaning, finding of truth. Jesus and the other which is darkness, all of them, majority are about his spiritual trials in the dark with the dark one, and his coming to light and following him wherever he goes (Jesus) he will never be the same after where hes been and what hes seen, he aint never going back. Follow me into the woods ill show you things that haunt your dreams, but Im not scared to die you show me yours and ill show you mine, his Jesus other evil but his is greater so he has no fear.

    whos here in 2019 ? anybody ? somebody ?

    1.... P....

I'm here. The person I call out to when I'm near tall pine trees or any place of solitude and sky is my son Roland. I will always imagine that i might find him alive again and walking maybe even amongst tall pine trees, as he often did in the Gila Wilderness. He had long ago written a poem about "pine trees dying too young" a fateful subject - he died young, 35 yrs old, he might as well have been one of the pines he had mourned in the poem, shot dead by a foolish young man who had been influenced by a woman who unfortunately loved "drama" in her life. This band, Lord Huron, is amazing.

I'm here. Close to 2020. Gonna keep strong through this upcoming year. I hope to see you there.

Given that "The Yawning Grave" leads directly into this song, it makes me think that this combination of songs is the beginning to some sort of fantasy story about a child who grew up in the woods and befriended a powerful guardian spirit.
"The Yawning Grave" is from the perspective of the spirit just after the child made a horrible mistake and broke a major law of the spirit's forest, causing an unbalance. The spirit had warned the child for years and now knows that it is its duty to punish them, though it doesn't want to, so it goes away into hiding where it hopes the child won't find it and it won't have to hurt them.
This leads into "Frozen Pines" where the child has grown up more now and has learned nearly every inch of their forest home that they love and they're confused as to why they haven't seen the spirit in so long. For a while, they just kinda miss the spirit but are still enthralled by their independence and adventure, but over time, they fear what their life may turn to without the guidance and care they received growing up.

I love songs that give me story ideas, bless this album.

    R.... T....

The song is about the truth, good and evil. Its about him finding Jesus. Pretty much all of his songs are. They are beautiful.

    R.... T....

I agree that yawning grave sounds like it's from the spirits perspective. But frozen pines is about being abducted by aliens - Ben told in a live show

This song is making words happen in my head and creating new songs. For us to be we will both share each others own bodies t'night dont worry girl everything will be alright t'night, there it goes again, for sure we will be our frien' anew don't ever feel blue for that is my only plan for you, so take heed I am on my trusty steed so I order you to do what you only just what you wanna do, hang there as I rescue you from that dark tower you lower your hair to me I will take you from the devils lair.put on your cape get on my horse I will take you to our escape so never again will you feel blue, I will take you to the sea for you to see we will ride each others waves of ecstasy in our mind we will be equal as will live in each others head, so let it be said we both reside in each others mind so pardon us sir you find yours, and truly of course we will pardon yours. For we must accept our own accepted equality, be on the level with us people an' we will never bevel unbalance of the parting ways, I wish you this life, one day you can make your own your one an' only wife for the rest of your shared days, ....................It's at this point I lose the plot and get stuck, OK it might sound crap but it is my first attempt at writing a song.

  28. T.... O....

  36. m.... s....

Okay so I just listened to this song and once I got a hang of the meaning I started crying because this stuff actually hits me in a soft spot.

To me, it sounds like the song is about reincarnation and purgatory. The person had all of their friends, family, all of their loved ones die. By the time they themselves die and they enter the after-life, all of their friends have moved on. "The frozen pines don't die or grow" is what I believe to be a metaphor for purgatory. You aren't alive or dead, but in this stasis where nothing changes.

The spirit is scared of moving on because they don't want to give up all of their memories of their loved ones, but they're extremely lonely because they're the only one left.

"I will be waiting for you on the other side of the frozen pines. I'm gonna find a way through there's another life beyond the line." I think in this song, you cross the line of frozen pines to enter your next life.

  37. r.... s....

    Perfect lyrics!!!

  38. D.... G....

I just realized, all of the songs in this album are connected!!! I'm mind-blown. Listen to the end of The Yawning Grave, and then the start of this one...

    D.... G....

Thats because its his testimonies. Its about fighting thru the evil one of the world and coming to light finding God and truth. And all of his trials walked thru to get there.

  39. N.... A....

Fuck. This song is spiritual. Song of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. 🌲🌲🌲

  41. S.... ....

Just noticed how "The Yawning Grave" leads into "Frozen Pines". I had to listen a few times before I realized. Those two are my favorite songs that are joined together, and also "Love Like Ghosts" and "Meet Me In The Woods".

    S.... ....

It's like one of those albums that you have to listen to as a whole. You can't just listen to it in pieces.

    S.... ....

and "The Stranger" and "She lit a Fire"

    S.... ....

the entire album tells a singular story, that's for sure

  42. d.... m....

i cant even express how love i this band

    L.... R....

    Its about Jesus.

  47. A.... H....

I don't know why, but I feel that this is somewhat applicable to Agent Mulder. I am an X Files nerd, and this song reminds me of his search for his sister.

I run my phone battery down completely when I listen to Lord Huron. So many great songs and not enough power to get through them all. I throughly enjoy this band and I have for over a year now. I hope they keep doing what they're doing.

    13 Reasons Why...

  52. R.... M....

Why do these guys have songs with 1 Million + views, but it seems this entire album went unnoticed? It's sooooooooooo gooooooooood.

  53. C.... L....

If you like this, you should also check out Gregory Alan Isakov. Trapeze Swinger should be the first song you listen to. And, yes trolls, I know it was written by Iron and Wine. He just does it better.

    C.... L....

    Chris Little
Weather Man album is great too.

    C.... L....

Chris Little Everything Gregory's ever done is fantastic.

    C.... L....

Gregory has many, many more great songs to his credit. Not discounting the fact that Trapeze Swinger by him outdoes the version of Iron & Wine.

  54. C.... L....

I thought the first album was good. This one is even better. The lyrics actually have meaning which is rare in music these days. I don't know if they made any videos for this one but, the previous album had such great videos. I will never forget them. Time to Run was the best.

    C.... L....

The lyrics his songs are of the greatest meaning, there about God, heaven, jesus, life afterlife.

  55. X.... S....

    I really love this one!

  56. J.... ....

I know everyone is tired of "this song reminds me of blah blah show or movie" but this fits "Your Name." scarily well.

  62. A.... ....

This song is just exceptional. Good God. Lord Huron has to be one of the greatest bands that almost no one has heard of. Every person that I introduce their music to become instant fans. I'm so grateful to KEXP for playing their song "Time To Run" a few years ago that caught my ear. Been a huge fan ever since.

  66. J.... G....

This will catch on. This band has over a dozen amazing, not good; Amazing Songs! They will be big soon.

    J.... G....

John Grebe I kinda enjoy the fact they have a nice little niche audience. Hands down my favorite modern band, they make beautiful music.. but I'd feel afraid that over popularity would ruin it.

With that being said, I hope they lead a very successful career and believe they are. They have had several spots in commercials.

  67. K.... G....

For some reason, the "mainstream" media has little interest in Lord Huron, but I know they have wide mainstream appeal, so if more people were exposed to them, they would probably be a lot more popular. I think five years from now, Lord Huron will probably be a "big" band just because their relatively small but loyal fan base has been slowly exposing this band to more and more people. I played this album in front of my friend and my mom and both of them were INSTANTLY like, "Hey, who is this band?" That's how I felt when I heard my first Lord Huron song, too. This band is really unique and talented and should be a lot more popular than they are. And I think they will be one day.

    K.... G....

    Inshallah
    Hopefully

    K.... G....

    2 years left :D

    K.... G....

they're just a few Subaru commercials away lol.

    K.... G....

Honestly I don't care if they get popular or not...I am only here for the good music they create and that's the only thing that matters

    K.... G....

They're still not mainstream and I fucking love it.

  68. A.... S....

This band is brilliant. I love them.

  69. A.... S....

What an amazing sound they have.

Beautiful. I thought of my son who wrote a poem titled Pine trees dying too young. My son died too young, shot and killed because of a woman's drama. He had no reason to ever think a rifle would be pointed at him. He was 35 yrs old, a hiker and camper, played djembe drums, wrote much poetry. I think he would have admired this song. I wish he was still here so I could share it with him.

    G.... ....

@Patricia Salvatore lots of love to you ♥️

    G.... ....

@Darth Azog Thank you for sending kind thoughts to me. This will sustain me tonight; please know that your words will comfort me again and again. My son's name was Roland Salvatore. He played djembe drums, wrote poetry, music, read all the time and loved hiking in the Gila Wilderness, often alone if not for encountering animals along its trails and within its sheltering caves. Thank you.
