Loggins & Messina - House At Pooh Corner Lyrics

Christopher Robin and I walked along
Under branches lit up by the moon
Posing our questions to Owl and Eeyore
As our days disappeared all too soon
But I've wandered much further today than I should
And I can't seem to find my way back to the wood

So help me if you can, I've got to get
Back to the house at Pooh Corner by one
You'd be surprised, there's so much to be done
Count all the bees in the hive
Chase all the clouds from the sky
Back to the days of Christopher Robin and Pooh

Winnie the Pooh doesn't know what to do
Got a honey jar stuck on his nose
He came to me asking help and advise
And from here no one knows where he goes
So I sent him to ask of the owl if he's there
How to loosen the jar from the nose of a bear

So help me if you can, I've got to get
Back to the house at Pooh Corner by one
You'd be surprised, there's so much to be done
Count all the bees in the hive
Chase all the clouds from the sky
Back to the days of Christopher Robin and Pooh

It's hard to explain how a few precious things
Seem to follow throughout all our lives
After all's said and done I was watching my son
Sleeping there with my bear by his side
So I tucked him in, kissed him
And as I was going
I swear that old bear whispered
Boy, welcome home!

Believe me if you can, I've got to get
Back to the house at Pooh Corner by one
What do you know, there's so much to be done
Count all the bees in the hive
Chase all the clouds from the sky
Back to the days of Christopher Robin and Pooh
Back to the ways of Christopher Robin and Pooh
Back to the ways of Pooh

Loggins & Messina House At Pooh Corner Comments
  1. T.... U....

Incredibly, 17-year-old Loggins wrote this song about his impending high school graduation.
Loggins said: "The last chapter (of Winnie the Pooh) is where Christopher Robin is leaving the Hundred Acre Wood, and he's telling everybody goodbye. I felt like that was akin to what I was going through in high school. Some part of me knew that I was leaving my childhood behind. I didn't really think it through like that. It just sort of came through."
Amazing to have that depth of insight and be able to articulate it at such a young age.

  2. S.... S....

This song is great for chilling me out when I feel manic. It's a natural chill pill! 😁

  3. D.... ....

Our oldest son watched Winnie the Pooh on VHS over and over when he was 4 or 5. He's 38 now. This song reminds me of those long ago days.

  4. R.... C....

Adults are just overgrown kids. This song proves it. * Cav *

Winnie was a real bear from White River Ontario that lived in the London Zoo during WW1 and Christopher Robin was A A Milne's son

People are still hanging out the 2019 most of us anyhow. We've lost a few greats in 2019 but well I'm well into my sixties and hanging on by a hair. Still like the music of the 60s and 70s and I guess 80s also has some good music. But I've done s*** that would make The Walking Dead run but some of those songs I still listen to will break the damn tears out half the time. I don't know if it's melancholy, missing what we had back then because things have totally went to hell now. But you know I never turn my radio on. I have a USB port on my radio so I just keep it plugged in and it automatically comes on when I get in the vehicle or if I come in the house I just turned it on the computer. I've got a couple of thousand songs recorded and I never listen to the radio anymore. But ain't no need to getting all sentimental and s*** y'all carry on!

  22. B.... W....

What a wonderful song to hear. It takes me back to a gentler time in my life.

  23. M.... H....

This song has always been the very definition of bittersweet for me.

  24. M.... J....

At my age, this song brings tears to my eyes now. I'm old now.

    M.... J....

You're only as old as you think. I think listening to this song makes us younger.

  25. M.... G....

The essence of innocence and purity.

  26. J.... F....

I'll always remember those road trips with just my mom and me, listening to this song repeatedly on tape--along with a hoard of other oldies that are near and dear to me.

  27. D.... ....

17-year-old Kenny Loggins wasn't going to be able to record his song "House at Pooh Corner" because Disney was enforcing their copyright to Winnie the Pooh. Upset, he mentioned this to his girlfriend, only to find out her dad was the president of Disney– he soon got permission.

    D.... ....

Which is even more ridiculous since Disney didn’t create Pooh, A. A. Milne did.

  37. R.... C....

We at Woodhull - Lawrenceville School, NJ - around 1973 & 1974 - played this great tune upstairs with my roommate Kevin Rosenburg of Philadelphia!  It was a tender, teen moment!  Kevin was my pal; I had a great time in "The Garden State"!  A melodic classic from a special time in our lives!  Smooth as a sip of Southern Comfort!  Cheers from Cav ~ L'76!

  38. C.... S....

This is my original. Back to my daze of stoned.

  39. C.... S....

    Best, Every kid song.

  40. J.... B....

40 yrs later, this song has a special meaning:
As our days disappeared all too soon.
But I've wandered much further today than I should
And I can't seem to find my way back to the wood.

Luckily, my grandchildren know the way.

  54. J.... R....

The entire original cast is gone now, and several of their replacements have passed on as well.

  55. C.... K....

This song to me is a deeper song about a simpler time in every life that we can never get back. And a lesson in moving on from childhood and childish thinking. These guys were really great then and still are relevant in the words and wisdom of aging.👽👁

  56. R.... D....

I got to see the group in Philadelphia at the old Spectrum. What a show. This was a long time ago.

Love this song, although I prob shouldn't admit it in public. I bought the LP too :)

    Z.... ....

It's a great song, for sure. I read somewhere that Kenny Loggins wrote House At Pooh Corner when he found his life was getting a little "out of control". His thought was to get back to "simpler times". My, how we ALL could learn from that these days!! Raising a glass of "cheer" to "simpler times".

    Z.... ....

Also, by the way, don't be shy of admitting it publicly...sing it to the world!!

    Z.... ....

It's great to have a heart. grads to you

    Z.... ....

What is there to be ashamed about liking Kenny Loggins?

I prefer this, the original. Return to pooh corner does not bring back the sweet and simple innocence, whimsical quality of hearing these two play and harmonize together...
Christopher Robin and I walked along
Under branches lit up by the moon
Posing our questions to Owl and Eeyore
As our days disappeared all too soon
But I've wandered much further today than I should

So help me if you can, I've got to get
Back to the house at Pooh Corner by one
You'd be surprised, there's so much to be done
Count all the bees in the hive
Chase all the clouds from the sky
Back to the days of Christopher Robin and Pooh

Winnie the Pooh doesn't know what to do
Got a honey jar stuck on his nose
He came to me asking help and advise

Brody G....Yer comment busted me up! Never noticed that before, but then again I am a guy. Looks like he's wearing nut busting clam diggers! Makes me ache just looking at it. Didn't know a guy could have a camel toe lol! Never cared for Pooh bear - I was a Bugs Bunny kinda guy. Nut huggers aside - I sure like Kenny. Loads of talent and another one of his many awesome songs!

One of the most wonderful songs of all time,  My little boy led me to The Corner when he was the most precious baby ever born, and made his way to me There for the most glorious days and years of my life.  I don’t tuck him in anymore – my little boy has grown into the most extraordinary young man, and he is getting married this fall.  I couldn't be more proud or delighted, but still… I will wait Here for him…. There’s so much to be done…

This tune reminds me of sweet times at The Lawrenceville School, NJ from 1973 to 1976.  I even remember my first roommate: Kevin Rosenberg of Philly!  I saw the dude at 1 of our reunions on campus!  Tunes kept our Woodhull House together!  Thank you to Champ Atlee & Al Phipett!  We had sports, good food, small classes, & Princeton University just a bus ride away.  Thanks to my parents: The late William S. Cavalier, Jr. (1924 - 1979) & my still alive, wonderful Mom: Cecilia Cavalier Dubois of North Texas!  With love, nostalgia, & best wishes from Robert Cavalier in NW Oregon!  4/2/15.  *

If you go to 3:50 onward to the end, that's where the true mysticism of this song lies. For my money, this last bit is the best piece of music they ever made or recorded.
