Loggins, Kenny - Vox Humana Lyrics

Early mornin' lookin' tired and worn
And lookin' out for the enemy
You made all the way to Hudson Bay
But you're right back here with me
Tryin' to run away
Your lips are sealed

A runaway
So tell me baby
What you're wantin' me to do
Givin' my love to you
Mama don't you know
Now you're livin' like a runaway
Sunday dawn you met a Gypsy woman
On a road to Tennessee
She told you a lot about the world to come
But did she tell you
Why you couldn't tell me
Like a runaway
How one by one you run away
Now tell me baby
What you want me to do
Givin' all my love to you
Mama don't you know

It's gonna be a hard leavin'
You're gonna need a strong reason
'Cause I ain't gonna start believin'
That you're out of my life
You bet you better do your fast talkin'
Before you do your last walkin'
It's gonna be a hard hard leavin' (talk to me)
Vox humana
I wanta feel the power of speech
Vox humana
Sounds so right so real to me
Vox humana
You gotta say
What you oughtta say
Don't try to run away
Darlin' I'm lettin' you know

Loggins, Kenny Vox Humana Comments
  1. L.... T....

I feel like this song is really underrated and deserves to be more well known as it is a very fun, upbeat, catchy song

  2. S.... S....

Wow, even for the '80's this video is weird. There's a really good country pop song here buried underneath all the Logginsisms. Ambitious and infectious at any rate.

  3. K.... L....

Vox Humana: Sounds like a prescription drug.
(Side effects may include hallucinations such as singing Kenny Loggins paintings.)

  4. J.... M....

Is the girl playing keys really his band member or just a good looking girl there for the sake of needing a woman in the clip? She hardly touches the keyboard in a pretty heavy synth song.

  9. h.... ....

This song reminds me of the summer of 85, waking up to the first rays of daylight and switching on the radio for great music like this.

  17. M.... ....

    Cowritten with the Pointer Sisters

  18. W.... R....

I'd greatly appreciate it if some Kenny Loggins/80s fans would check out my acoustic piano & vocal covers of HEART TO HEART (Kenny's duet with Michael McDonald) and JACK & DIANE by John Cougar Mellencamp in tribute to the great musical year of 1982. Real live acoustic with no autotune or lip synching. Thanks and peace.

  19. K.... L....

Who else is here from family guy?

  20. T.... M....

Kenny always looks like he's always having so much fun!

wutz funny is dat my houze got pix of kenny loggins on evy wall 2

  29. t.... ....

There was a video to this? Wow. I remember listening to this years when I worked doing audio checks of CDs. I'm old. This song always sounded like "I'm Alright" to me. =/

    t.... ....

if u think vox humana soundz like im alright well i bet u didnt last 2 long at that CD job buddy

    t.... ....

+pinkalgebra not that kinda job buddy. I listened for errors aka drop outs, pops, clicks, etc. that were post production.

Music is subjective. We like what we like - we hear what we hear. Arguing what it is or isn't can be a waste of time.

  30. S.... U....

    His beard is fucking majestic

  31. L.... M....

I love the guitar solo in this song, but I don't think Kenny is really playing it. Though I could be wrong. I just bought the cassette on Ebay last week. Great album. Long live the 80s!!

  32. W.... ....

I'm surprised to read people here stating this made #29 on the charts. I only heard it one time on local radio (and I was a teenager in 1985 listening to the radio daily.) Certainly was a much livelier song than "Danger Zone" which was awefully repetitive....

  33. V.... C....

    I love this song

    V.... C....

    BRS amantes de Kenny Loggins!!!

introducing Michael Chiklis from "The Shield" and "Fantastic Four" fame on the drums.

It goes to show that the 80s were fun. He's all smiles while playing the drums.

    g.... ....

+guitarforlife he looks happy. he must've just found out he got the role of John Belushi in Wired and thought that was a good thing....

    g.... ....

    Tris Imboden on drums

    g.... ....

I'm sure you're kidding, but that's Tris Imboden on drums; he played on this song and album.

    g.... ....

    That’s Tris Imboden

  37. J.... ....

    2 things.
    1. God Damn I can't get enough of this Kenny Loggins song.
    2. Whoever made this video was on the purest of crack.

    J.... ....

@JaxRwld wow, the purest, hats off to you sir, good comment.

    J.... ....

    Can’t agree more

    J.... ....

Really? I have roomful of Kenny Loggins paintings coming to life and singing every night. I thought everyone did.

  38. L.... U....

Isn't that art room filled with portraits of Kenny Loggins really creepy? Imagine walking into a room with just one man in the middle painting yet another image of your face to hang in a room covered with images of your face.

    L.... U....

+Luke Urbanski Imagine being invited over to a dude's apartment for a casual hang (or a romantic occasion if so inclined), and after he lets you into the hallway he just goes to fetch a Scotch or something, and you walk into the living room and see those same kinds of portraits in the same arrangement of the guy himself. And you hear the front door close and he walks in staring at you with a psycho face.

    L.... U....

    @Johnny Natrium Pepper yer angus

  39. H.... P....

Hadn't heard this one for a very long time, though I have the album.  Terrific video!

  40. R.... S....

Man its been a while since I heard this one, thanks

  41. M.... C....

    what in the world

  42. I.... ....

someone probably already pciked up on this i haven't read all the comments in this section but  i think you'll find if you look close and hard and bare in mind it is an old video being 198i5 it would be BUT i do believe thatsa very young male actor playing the artist and painter through  out the video is very young without the moustache of his cuba gooding junior ??.

from robert di nero's a few good men if my eyes aren't going home on me if its not cuba gooding jr then its a young actor that looks exactly likea young a young cuba gooding jr in his youth but im sure its him and he would have been about that age when this video was made crossed with cuba gooding jr's birthday of course it would fit if it is him?.

that is might interesting to find out from the man himself cuba isa good actor if it is him even from 1985 lol but kennys music and songs are always great period plenty of young pop crap and artists lfoating about theres only kenny loggins sorry irreplaceable musician guitarist and song writer from the classic eighties my era of birth and proud of it.

and he even produced this track if i recall i already knew about the pointer sisters being on backing vocals and helping with input on the track as at this point in kennys career this was his way of experimenting with synth pop and r&b  and also produced the track himself the proof is clear in the song speaks for itself .

when you do it yourself it gets done right the first time round not for someone else to fuck it up for you he isa genius and only one of him in the world period like it lump it kenny loggins is a legend in his own time for the last 3 to 4 decades.

if you dont like tracks like this you got something wrong with you and you should have gone to spec savers instead because you def got something wrong with your ears and eyes and ya need anew nice new damn def aid from speccys if you dont like this track you bloody bonkers LONG LIVE KING KENNY LOVE YOUR MUSIC.

  43. R.... M....

I have to admit I first listened to this song back in the day because Anita and June Pointer co-wrote the song with Loggins and Ruth Pointer does the really low voices in here similar to the low voice she does in the chorus of the Pointer Sisters' "Automatic" You can also hear Sheila E. on the drums and percussion - there's even Prince's trademark snare if you listen closely. Even knowing all that I never saw the video for this until today - was hoping Ruth Pointer and/or Sheila E. would have made a cameo in the video but if I remember correctly this came out right about the same time "Dare Me" and "A Love Bizarre" were being released and the ladies were probably out promo'ing their respective albums...

    R.... M....

Rich Matthews Thank U 4 the info, never knew the Pointer Sisters helped Co-Wrote this song & as for the Shelia E./Prince Linn Drum Sound, I definitely can hear it !!! BTW, the Pointer Sisters back in the day covered Prince's "I Feel 4 U" !!!

    R.... M....

    And El Debarge on background/harmony.

    R.... M....

Pretty cool. I didn't realize the Pointer's had anything to do with this song but I did know that they sang on another Vox Humana track called "I'm Gonna Do It Right" which was really great. I just glanced at the credits & it's amazing how many stars, in their own right, worked on this album. Toto, Richard page, The Pointers, Philip Bailey, David Sanborn, Sheila E, El DeBarge, David Foster, Greg Phillinganes, Nathan East... the list goes on & on.

  44. J.... F....

    this guy sucks

    J.... F....

@Jorge Flores (thumbs pointing to yourself)....you're right. yeah, that Jorge, man.... what a loser. geez.

  45. M.... S....

There isn't a single Kenny Loggins song that I don't like. It's ALL good! That said, this one will always remain at the top of my list :)

  46. J.... B....

God, this man has such a soulful voice. Kenny Loggins FOREVER!

  47. 8.... ....

I reckon the album itself in 1985 would've faired better in the charts with better cover art.

  48. M.... T....

Is it just me or does Kenny look like Teen Wolf here?

  49. M.... ....

    lost verse to footloose!

  50. D.... ....

I don't really get what this song is about but I do like it because it's catchy, upbeat and a lot of fun to listen to.

    D.... ....

Kenny came up with a great title for his upcoming album: "Vox Humana".  Latin for "human voice".  Now he needed a title track.  So he took a couple of verses to a song he was working on about a girl trying to runaway from her boyfriend added the "Vox Humana" chorus, and voila, he had a title song!  .

  51. T.... F....

    AAAAAGGGGHHH! You're an idiot :)
Use adblocker and stop moaning about Try and Matt just because they're richer and more successful than you are :)

  52. n.... ....

Cool and creative video clip, but damn is it creepy.

  53. C.... B....

    Sam Kinison on drums?

  54. M.... ....

AAAAAGGGGHHH! I only came here to enjoy a good song, not be attacked by a commercial for something the idiots behind "South Park" created. Who bloody cares?

  55. M.... ....

    No harm in that. :-)

  56. B.... H....

sadly, this is the only concert of his I saw....he is a great musician.

  57. J.... K....

This tells the compelling story of a mentally-ill man's obsession with painting Kenny Loggins and his plunge into madness....

  58. o.... j....

    great song

  59. S.... M....

Looks kinda like David Tennant with a beard.

  60. L.... Y....

Me encanto este vídeo kenny loggins uno de los mejores =)

  61. D.... ....

Those paintings are creepy as hell.

  62. B.... T....

The painter was real-life artist Robert Campbell (1951-2004). Brass Tacks Press publishes his works.

  63. S.... L....

1985? that's bad for someone with so much talent...

  64. j.... ....

Great song, but a crappy video. But, hey, it was the 80's; the decade of big hair and cheesey videos!

  65. m.... ....

What the crap?! How much other weird music did I miss in 1985?

  66. L.... K....

    nice one

  67. I.... ....

please people what is that song that goes shumuna humuna humuna

  68. P.... K....

This song is like a combination of "Footloose" and "I'm Alright".

  69. D.... ....

this song deserved to be in the Top 10, not #29 IMO, this is definitely one of Kenny's forgotten gems

  70. M.... ....

Never mind that, why is Sam Kinison on the drums?

  71. M.... ....

I know her work well (never got her due, did she?), but I didn't know she was also a musician! Thank you.

  72. D.... ....

never had thought of DJing before, I'm only 31 and I love 80s music

  73. T.... ....

Yes, it is. :-) But it's true. I think we both have a good ear for musical styles! :-) Ever considered DJing?

  74. T.... ....

lol!! I still have the original, cheap "rainbow" cassette tape, and made a newer version with digital files, on CD, a couple of years ago! :-)

I used to DJ (from `87 to `91), and used to make my mixtapes "flow" like that, even before I DJ'd. :-) Didn't really know I was actually DOING that, back then, but when I look back, I see the techniques I was using subconsciously. I need to be entertaining again! lol....

  75. D.... ....

That is a major coincidence that you've had "C-I-T-Y" right after this song on a mixtape, I know this song was a hit in the Spring of '85 and "C-I-T-Y" came out in the Fall of '85

  76. T.... ....

Wow.... so funny you said that! I made a mixtape back then, and put "Vox Humana" on there, and C-I-T-Y right after it! :-) I must have made that connection too! Both are such great songs.

  77. T.... ....

Yes! Tris Imboden on the skins, and Marilyn Martin on keys! Can't beat it!

    T.... ....

    Tre404 Nathan east on bass

    T.... ....

Holy Christ, I had to go back to see if that really was Nathan East... I didn't recognize him one bit under all that jheri curl and shoulder pads.. damn!

    T.... ....

Marilyn's not really playing the keys but damn if she doesn't still look good doing it. She did sing b/g on the last track though.

    T.... ....

Tris has got to be the happiest drummer - he is always smiling! I saw him when he was with Chicago, and when I saw Kenny Loggins in concert a few weeks ago, there he was again!

  78. T.... ....

I'm pretty sure that's Marilyn Martin. Love that woman. Check out her 1985 hit here at YouTube, "Night Moves." She's a powerhouse! She also did that song "Separate Lives" with Phil Collins, from the "White Nights" soundtrack.

  79. r.... ....

As much as I used to love this song, I don't think I have ever seen this video before, or if I did, I only saw it once. Pretty inventive with the paintings--I remember the tune getting some airplay, but it should have been a bigger hit, because it's a great jand fun as hell song. Especially since Loggins was tearing up the charts that year with his two huge hits from the FOOTLOOSE soundtrack.

  80. M.... ....

    Who's that adorable keyboardist?

    M.... ....

    Marilyn Martin

  81. C.... ....

A great song by Kenny Loggins! This was a featured track on "American Top 40 - The '80s" (from May 4th, 1985), & was the #29 song.

    Bravo, Kenny!

  82. B.... ....

I had forgotten, just how close this song is to "Footloose" and just how creepy the beginning of the video is.

  83. f.... ....

    Nathan East on Bass

  84. t.... s....

@samurai1833 Every era has their weird aspects.

  85. D.... ....

Is it just me or does this song remind me of John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band's "C-I-T-Y" (which ironically came out right around the same time as this song)

  86. D.... ....

definitely a forgotten Kenny Loggins gem, wish it would get as much airplay on today's radio as "Danger Zone" and "Footloose"

  87. k.... ....

@samurai1833 When MTV came out in 1981, it was all about the videos...there were some really good, but weird videos. lol

  88. b.... ....

    That was fun

  89. .... ....

    всё возможно

  90. s.... ....

Is that Marilyn Martin (Night Moves) on keyboards?

  91. b.... ....

It's creepy in a very cool way. Thumbs up!

  92. s.... ....

Wow, I'd forgotten that the 80's so freaking weird

  93. T.... K....

My grandmother thinks he looks like Eddie Murhpy.

  94. T.... ....

@PencilNeckedGeek .... you really think he looks like Lionel? The only similarity I see is the hairstyle, both on his head and above his lip! The face looks NOTHING like Lionel's. Actually, this bass player looks more like one of the Lewis brothers from Atlantic Starr, or like he could be Nick Ashford's younger brother! lol....

  95. T.... ....

@PencilNeckedGeek ... but it looks so very genuine. Tris Imboden, in particular, looks as though he needed no direction to smile. The happy vibe is infectious here; it seems genuine, and I love it.

  96. T.... ....

@eLeMeNOhPeaQ ..... I've been wondering that myself! Sure looks like her, and you're right, she did backing vox on this album.

  97. D.... ....

Why is Lionel Richie on the bass?! :P

    D.... ....

    That's Nathan East

  98. D.... W....

Kenny hit #29 in Billboard, 5-4-85. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great week!

  99. b.... ....

I had forgotten all about this obscure Kenny Loggins song, and I had purchased the 7" in '85! It is interesting that Loggins' soundtrack singles are more remembered today than his other works.
