Loggins, Kenny - Loraine Lyrics

Hold me
Long enough to tell me
What you told me
Long ago
Before you got to know me

Only when lovers try
They learn to talk it out
To keep their love alive
That's the only way, I say,
That love survives
Its time we try

[Chorus:]
Loraine
Won't you show the way
Hearts that bend won't break
When they learn to face the truth now
Show me how

Loraine
I know you feel the same
Hold me now
I don't know what to say
I'm so in love with you
Loraine

Talk to me
Isn't that the way it ought to be?
But whats's the use if we end up a memory
Remembering our honesty
I always thought that's what you want of me
But now the truth has made you turn your back on me
Oh, can't you see

[Chorus]

I've got to find a way
I beg you babe
I need to hear you say
You love me

If I have the chance
I won't let you go
I'll stay by your side
I'll be lovin' you darlin'
And for all of my life
I will let you know
You're my only love
Just believe in me darlin'

Look in my eyes
I swear this is true
I you want it
You got it
I promise you Loraine

[Chorus]

I swear I love you
I always will
This kind of feeling never came to me until Loraine

    My favourite Kenny's song💙

She lives in my heart yesterday, today and always... she is the spark and the flame... the one whose name still echoes and remains in the forefront of my brain... the one, the only... LORAINE!

To the people wondering why this wasn’t on the radio: This wasn’t a single (The record company didn’t believe in it) and Loggins’ brand of music was falling out of favor in general with the music buying public so why would a radio station go “Gee, let’s play this track when Vox Humana hit the top 30, Forever got in at 40, and I’ll Be There in the 80’s”? Let’s play some Def Leppard or Phil Collins! Yes, I realize that his second biggest hit “Danger Zone” came the same year and he had a few more SOUNDTRACK hits but the album singles were generally crappier imo and the public recognized that. Having said all that, I do like this song and would’ve preferred it over “I’ll Be There”.

Before you say "Underappreciated" or "Why wasn't this on the radio in the olden days?" on this or any older song predating say 2001 it's because songs like Footloose topped the charts and anything played was a "known hit song of some or great renown" or whatever was on the top 100 based on listening data in the 80's. They had no interest in playing this music on what was then considered valuable air time ( yes, just like TV the airwaves where worth a lucrative amount of money in retrospect ) if it wasn't going to keep the listener tuned into the channel. So in other words playing Footloose over this and the rest of an album being an obscurity unless you bought it yourself was commercially a sound choice for the radio station.

  17. G.... S....

No idea how this didnt make it on the FM stations! Really an incredible piece of music that fits neatly into that era. The songwriting was exceptional.

    G.... S....

George Steinhoff This entire album was tragically overlooked. It is a musical feast from the very first note to the last. Will always be one of my favorites

Love this piece ... the whole album (Vox Humana) in fact.  Used to listen to it over and over back in the mid-1980s when it was first released.  If you listen carefully near the end of the song, you'll hear El DeBarge jamming it out in the background.

    G.... ....

I'm pretty sure it is Howard Hewett from Shalamar, not El DeBarge, he sings in another track 'I'll Be There'

@Surian Soosay I'll defer to your judgment -- it was a reasoned guess on my part. Thanks for the comment!
