Local Natives - Megaton Mile Lyrics
Climbing up through the window
Up to the rooftop (Up to the rooftop)
The seagulls swarm on the railroad
All we could do is watch (All we could do is watch)
And let your new work come
Tell me what I could've done
Hold me close in the ending
In a flashing light
We're stuck and it's after dark
On megaton mile
No alarms or hell riders
No, teary-eyed ain't good
It took so long for it all
To change with just a word
(To change with just a word)
Abandoned cars on the freeway
A terracotta rush hour
You head me calling out your name
Hold me close in the ending
In a flashing light
We're stuck and it's after dark
On megaton mile
January came and went early
In a flashing light
We're stuck and it's after dark
On megaton mile
You said it was beautiful
As much as it was terrifying
Hold me close in the ending
In a flashing light
We're stuck and it's after dark
On megaton mile
January came and went early
In a flashing light
We're stuck and it's after dark
On megaton mile

This song restores hope in living
I love this song! ❤
hurry up and make the video, plz! @=`^{
Anyone else think this song sounds like Charlie from always sunny is singing?
Not gonna lie... they kinda had me at 4:10
Meanwhile,
half brain cell rappers getting recognition for yapping "yuh" for 4 minutes straight...
Life is so unfair don't you think?
How is this not at 10 million views right now? Watch, they're going to feature this song in the end credits of some popular TV show and thousands of people are gonna come flooding to this video.
Anyone else here from MusicChoice Indie channel on Spectrum?
This band just keeps getting better and better year after year. Perfect show..them and City and Colour.
January came and went early...
These guys are incredible - Violet Street is AOTY
This album rules
Discovered this song a day ago and Ive listened to it over hundreds of times
this song is so good 😭 it needs a music video
I can't even count how many times I've listened to this track since it dropped. See you boys in Atlanta June 11!
We stargaze after dawn
on Megaton Mile ;)
Love that bass way way up front in the mix
Since the day this album came out, I've been listening to it 2-3 times a night! Might be one of my favorite collections of music ever.
This music makes me so sleepy! 😴
Some sites have the line "We're stuck and it's after dark, on Megaton Mile". I'm 99% sure the line is "It's darkest after dawn, on Megaton Mile". You can actually clearly hear "It's darkest after dawn" on the final chorus section at the end of the song.
The song seems to be heavily inspired by the film "Miracle Mile", which is about a group of people trying to flee LA with premature knowledge about an imminent massive nuclear attack on the United States. Obvious spoilers, but the film takes place before dawn, and the film ends directly at dawn with the sun rising and the missiles streaking over the sky, proving the main character correct as multiple "flashing lights" start erupting, signaling the detonation of the warheads.
"It's darkest after dawn" fits with the ending of the film and the song. The world is ending, the narrator of the song is close enough to see the "flashing lights" of nuclear warheads in the distance. The film ends during the dawning of a new day, but the world literally ends on it for those on "Miracle Mile", and the world will forever be dark after this dawn.
Hope they don’t really change from their true style

Oh my goodness my new fav I can't stop send help
After listening thru the album a couple times, this song stands out. Fucking soulful and melodic. That bass sound kills!
Is Kelcey using autotune or any vocoder/vocal effects?
Chris Aldridge it sounds like it at one point.
This bassline is TASTY 😋
why does this track sound like it's cut off in the middle?
Because on the album the order goes from this to "Someday Now", and it transitions across songs. The beginning of "Someday Now" is right where it clips off here.
Songs about getting blown up by an atomic bomb. That's why there's an abrupt ending to the song (the alarms in the last minute of the song).
love this track!!
🆕🎧 "Megaton Mile" debuted at #18 on the New Alternative 40 Chart this week!
Kelcey! Killing it!
I have a feeling the bois were at least partially inspired by Cold War Kids' Miracle Mile :)

I love LN but can't like this
That was my reaction to When am I Gonna Lose You and Cafe Amarillo, but the remainder of the album is fiiirrre man what you talkin
@Chris Aldridge i love café amarillo and i like when i am i gonna lose you. But I just can't like this one, it has a great bassline tho
@David Matias I don't get many feels from either of those. Not my cup of LN tea but that could change when seeing them in about a month bc they always kill it live! Gulf Shores, Someday Now, Megaton Mile, and Tap Dancer are really awesome.
@David Matias I mostly love Kelcey's voice in Megaton and how he's singing even higher than usual.
Retro sound but feels so fresh. Nice job boys.
💜💜💜💜💜💜
ShAWN Pawped OFF ON THISS ONE
Nik tho with the bassline.
Have you tried not releasing a straight banger lately??
Just wow. I just closed my eyes and the song just ..... 👌
COME TO BRAZIL 💚💛
So ready to play this on repeat all summer long— the new album I can’t
Come back to México 🇲🇽
Their music is art, I love you guys
muy bueno
Got me dancing again...
Every single song released so far has been fantastic. I think this will be your best album.
All their albums are pure gold, can' t imagine to choose my favourite. Unique problem in the world of music present-day, thanks LN!!!!!!!!!
Favorite song off the new album so far 😄
Ready for the summer baby!!!
Love this so much
Well this is terrible 🤷🏻♂️
Love it! I fell off from Local Natives for a few years, and I'm delighted to see their music is progressing!
I feel like this is gonna be a great record!!
I'm literally secons in and I already love it
This album is going to slap.
this album is it for them... i can feel it. everyone's going to know who they are now!!!
Right? Every song so far is amazing!
About 1 minute in...JAMMING
I’m into it!!
This song makes me want to get my life back together lol man is this great!❤
@Frank and Radhika Review ((;
@X G oh great, you're one of those trolls... the kind who only have a YouTube channel to leave comments. Doesn't produce any original content or have any original thoughts. So you go around liking other people comments and opinions. Great...
@Frank and Radhika Review right, I'm the troll because you cant handle someone not taking your opinions as fact. Yup...its funny how your mind completely invented a nonexistent reason for why I have a YouTube account or why I'm on YouTube. I sincerely think you need help. Good luck!
@Daniel Maya I can sympathize. When I first discovered Local Natives I didn't necessarily need to get my life together but I felt stuck in a rut at the time, listening to their music and going to their shows definitely lifted my spirit and made me have a more positive outlook on things.
Powerful!
I'm hallucinating!! Come back to Mexico! 🙏🏼
Adrián Gómez x2! 💔
🌻🌻🌻
Shout out fyf2010. Memories
Not really feeling it. Feels unnecessarily schizophrenic, instrumentally foggy and too saturated. never really gets off the ground, vocally weak and inconsistent.
you're so wrong
did you change your mind about the song ?
@Hugo Smnw no, I find it to be a very sloppy song.
@Taylor Labat opinions can't be wrong.
Joshua Jones m’m.
Can’t wait to spin this album on a summer day and get absolutely hammered with my friends.
Ryan Torres same tho lmao
Sameeeee! Good vibes...
Totally. Go to the beach and blast it if you live on the coast.
Ryan Torres I know that’s right
That baseline 😮
Great sound!! Never can get over there boys!!!
nothing quite like your ears undergoing a new local natives song, mucho gracias fellas
👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Wow
I'm listening to this song for the first time and DAMN i'm really surprised. Very pop-ish, dunno if this has a mainstream vocation or anything. Anyway, this band is weird and great and i need time to comprehend this song
Florian FLAMENT I have to agree, it’s far from their “their” sound. Far more popish and hard to swallow at first listen. Though I do feel it will be my new daily shirt soon, shan’t be long lol.
I feel the same, but it didn't get me at first listen, as Cafe, Tap Dancer and WAIGLY did....honestly i think i will not listen to it a lot more now and wait until Violet Street comes out, and listen to the whole album (i still think this song could be a banger live, i'll verify it in October😛)
NEW ALBUM HYPE!!! LETS GO!
Hey, this was playing in the car wash last night
Was that car wash coincidentally a megaton mile long as well? 🤔
Goddamn, that is a cool ass car wash.
Piece of art. 🖤
fínallyyy I found the perfect comment to describe
