Ps I need to add a few notes on the previous rapid dissertation. The most intelligent marketer of the music industry, that set the standard, was David Bowie. One statement he gave was this. If you sell lemonade, then say it’s lemonade. Never pretend it’s coke. Classification is crucial. If you get it wrong, then it’s very bad. You are 1, not telling the truth. 2. Your arrogant to assume the market place is stupid. 3. You should allow marketing people to do their job. 4. It won’t work. 5. The band splits up. Because I do not lie. Oasis actually thought they had America covered. Just because they thought they were so brilliant. Life doesn’t work that way, The Police released, Every Breath You Take. Island records lists it as Country, which it is, goes immediately to number one in America at the same time as the UK, Germany and Japan. Now that’s what we call Marketing. This signals an album, that’s going to make history. It’s a rock album, but, several tracks are country and rhythm and blues. Lol. Allow the individual to actually hear it first. By definition of what a particular single is. Your still a rock band. It’s something that Noel never fully grasped. That’s why they call it the music INDUSTRY.

Essentially, Oasis are a country and western band. Now I know that’s a bit of a shock, but it’s true. Now is that bad. No, of course it isn’t and it’s very bold, all dressed up as Brit pop. But it’s true, it’s C & W. So why didn’t they crack America, the very home of country. Well, in retrospect, it’s easy to see. Firstly, when you rock America, you need to tell them it’s rock. If you don’t, they won’t listen. So likewise, if it’s country, then do that, tell them. New Wave, it goes on. Your bottle needs a label that says what’s inside. Now Americans aren’t stupid, far from it, it’s just that confusion sets in, when you play a music style and then try to sell it as something else. This is a marketing faux paux. And creation records, so cock sure, forgot to employ these people. Now your thinking, what, dress up Oasis as a country band. No. Not at all, in fact, they just remain exactly who they are. Then what should they have done. Simple, allow their genre to be classed as country. Now think of all the Radio stations in the Midwest that only play country. Phil Collins, Clapton, it goes on, all listed as country, because, essentially, they are. It doesn’t mean you wear a cowboy hat.
So what happened. They missed out, by incorrectly labelling them self’s as Rock, which they are not. It’s slow ballad, melancholic utopia, with sporadic rhythm patterns that scream of what is past and the greatness of faith. It’s almost gospel, but let’s keep a lid on this.
So what does this mean. Well, it means that America lost out on one of the most talented bands of the 20th Century. Oasis lost out on a Beatles esq fame, and Noel lost out on $300m. Remember, branding is mainly for record stations, it’s not for joe public. Oasis just failed in obtaining AirPlay. It’s that simple.
The main thing is that this was all a marketing catastrophe, it’s was not the failure of the band. At least we know them, and that’s all that matters. Note, All That Matters......how many times does that lyric show itself in Noels songs, Because it’s true, it’s all that matters.

They were too *Brit* centric - The imagery, attitude & lack of any willingness whatsoever to bow to American culture. *EXACTLY* the same happened to another great British & probably one of our greatest writers, Mr Weller's *The Jam.*

To hit mainstream America you have to dilute your musical integrity & pour a load of sugar over it. Probably what I consider to be *THE* greatest British band of all time *Genesis* did exactly that. *Collins* knew where the real money was so got the band to bend over & present their musical integrity to America to do what they want with them!

American people, although I love them, are very insular & don't really have much interest in culture outside of the States.
