Listener - Falling In Love With Glaciers Lyrics

I met a shell of a mountain who knew she was finished claimed she grew up from a grain of sand with every year wider she bloomed a little bit longer to the roof of the sky with outstretched hands she made friends with the sun, shared enemies with no one counted weeks like she should of counted days and swallowed handfuls of night so she could sleep tight and turn her thoughts from its stone cold ways and this was the beginning, the start of the ending you can't die from a broken heart but from the time the sun rose to the space where it fell away she would love, and it wouldn't take part and every every day she would echo echo in every single way she should let go let go but it had her in its sights cupids icy arrows

So she caught every one with her heart like it was her duty it walked the wrong wrong way down her one way plan she was surrounded by forests, rivers and beauty until that glacier froze over the land and so she blamed herself hated her wealth she was born at too young of an age and every night her dreams were touched by witches fingers until her heart was caged with every morning spent not caring if she cares or not sleeping in the melt and mud, waiting for the earth to rot burying herself alive she scrapes the hole that it left open empty as her very heart, that mountain was all broken all broken, that mountain was all broken

Now I can see that her bloods red and she's got feelings and they always get spilled both without thinking

Hey, Hobo Johnson called. He asked if you could give him some pointers on how to make music that doesn't make him sound like a shallow asshat.

  5. D.... ....

  6. F.... E....

    This is timeless.

  9. A.... C....

I met a shell of a mountain who knew she was finished
Claimed she grew up from a grain of sand
With every year wider she bloomed a little bit longer
To the roof of the sky with outstretched hands
She made friends with the sun, shared enemies with no one
Counted weeks like she should of counted days
And swallowed handfuls of night so she could sleep tight
And turn her thoughts from its stone cold ways
And this was the beginning, the start of the ending
You can't die from a broken heart
But from the time the sun rose
To the space where it fell away
She would love, and it wouldn't take part
And every every day she would echo echo
In every single way she should let go let go
But it had her in its sights cupids icy arrows
    But so, so what
So she caught every one with her heart like it was her duty
It walked the wrong wrong way down her one way plan
She was surrounded by forests, rivers and beauty
Until that glacier froze over the land
And so she blamed herself hated her wealth
She was born at too young of an age
And every night her dreams were touched by witches fingers
    Until her heart was caged.
With every morning spent not caring if she cares or not
Sleeping in the melt and mud, waiting for the earth to rot
Burying herself alive she scrapes the hole that it left open
Empty as her very heart, that mountain was all broken
All broken, that mountain was all broken
Now I can see that her
Her blood's red and she's got feelings
And they always get spilled both without thinking
    Without thinking, without thinking,
Without thinking, I can see that her
Her blood's red and she's got feelings
And they always get spilled both without thinking
    Without thinking, they weren't thinking,
Without thinking, I can see that her
Her blood's red and she's got feelings
And they always get spilled both without thinking
    Without thinking, I wasn't thinking,
Without thinking, I can see that our
Our blood's red and we got feelings
And we always spill both bloods without thinking
Without thinking, what were we thinking,
We weren't thinking, what were we thinking of

+Marcos Nila This was back when they were artistic and not a garage band yet.

    M.... N....

not to mention there are drums....and bass isnt needed, this is simply a poem put to simple and beautiful acoustic "campfire" music

  39. A.... S....

beautiful incorporation of the mellophone. you don't see that shit often

  40. t.... ....

If I ever were able to put as much of my heart and soul into one single piece of art as Dan Smith puts into every one of his songs and performances, I swear I'd be content the rest of my days

  41. M.... N....

    SOOOO MUCH YESSSSS

  42. R.... B....

This dirty unaesthetic balded guy destroyed the whole song experience. Like wtf is he wearing? Did nobody controle his outfit before shooting the video?

    R.... B....

while I do disagree, this is hilarious.

    R.... B....

If this ruined the song for you then you aren't listening hard enough

  47. M.... S....

I'm slowly falling more and more in love with this band... The brass makes it stand out from Being As An Ocean and La Dispute and Touche Amore...

  48. N.... R....

Where do you get a trumpet like that

    N.... R....

That's a mellophone! Its usually used in marching band

  49. Q.... M....

This song is incredible. Where has it been filmed?

    Q.... M....

The video was filmed in a local church in Gary, Indiana. The City Methodist Church has been in quiet a lot of movies and shows including "Nightmare on Elm," "Transformers" and recent the Netflix series Sense8.

I only recently came across listener and I can not stop listening to them, they are fucking amazing! But it's hard to say a band that's been such a huge part of my life like mewithoutyou isn't better. Both bands are beautiful and great in their own ways. But I can't wait to see listener in just a few days! Been looking forward to it for a while now

    S.... D....

That's pretty rad, I think. I love church interiors.

  60. D.... K....

I really like this, but for some reason I can't get over the way how towards the middle of the song he begins to sound like a southern politician giving a very passionate speech.

  61. C.... B....

I can't imagine how difficult it would be to match the professional recording with the video. I'm sure it's hard for musicians, but spoken word is a little more loose on rhythm. Anyway, I'm a new fan and I love your work. You rock guys!

  62. f.... ....

listener has insipired me to start a spoken word / acoustic project called Moral Compass

    f.... ....

    what do you meaaaaaaaaan

    f.... ....

    got any songs?

    f.... ....

findanewgoddd He inspired much of my vocal style for my hardcore band :3 <3

    f.... ....

As long as you all use it as inspiration rather than a carbon copy, I'm cool with it.

  63. M.... ....

I'm so glad i found them. This song is really getting into me

  64. A.... H....

This hits me everytime I listen to this track.

  65. G.... W....

    Best song ever? Maybe.

  66. c.... ....

they all really let themselves go it makes me kinda sad

  67. c.... ....

i miss the old listener they ll

  68. W.... ....

Dude same here. You should check out MeWithoutYou if you haven't. They're similar to this, and the chariot introduced me to them too :p

  69. N.... C....

    listener literally saved my marriage

  70. N.... N....

    check out my videos

  71. N.... S....

I love the chariot and heavy music like that. But the chariot introduced me to this band and I gotta say its absolutely amazing I've never heard anything like it and I'm in love

  72. J.... ....

I love individuals, and loathe people.. it takes entirely too long for people to grow up, and gratification halts people. for someone who lyrically has passion to teach, while maybe seeking personal solace, sort of like Listener, then I feel the viewer should at least respect the sincerity. That guy who blabbed about "only hipsters blabla" deserves scorn to the point of self reflection. People avoid it, and find penchants to be a saviour, though it's positively mindless distraction to some..

  73. w.... ....

Judgment? I think constructive criticism is much more needed in this world than judgment,They are quite different.
"Some" people latch on to sexual appeal in music, you shouldn't throw us all in the same box. It's the same as learning the difference between people are racist pieces of shit and some people are racist pieces of shit.We are not all the same and we shouldn't be expected to be the same either. We shouldn't be held accountable for others actions either. Odd,I rather like your thoughts.

  74. J.... ....

You've got to be a liar. either to the world or yourself.. judgment is not acceptable? its childish or immature? people latch on to sexual appeal in music. it started with moronic girls in love with the Beatles.. that's an indication of a lack of concern in society for our fellow people, to let them go crazy trying to be anything but what they are naturally. You're not listening, so do as you pretend you must. I'll be cynical and realize you might just be plain.

  75. w.... ....

"Typical anybody"? i'll have you know I very much enjoy a wide assortment of music and one less band is no better than a more well known and vice versa. It's a matter of preference and disrespecting someone over what they listen to is childish and immature. Immoral? by who's standards? try to think outside of your tiny little world. Fame wears off and it doesn't make good music,it doesn't make bad music either. People make good music and it is people who make meaningless garbage.

  76. J.... ....

You're just the typical anybody who tries to be musically open. Music that can accompany immoral behaviour due to the lyrical content should always be shit on.. Emerson Lake and Palmer was better than any of that "I'm not uncool I SWEAR!!!!!" bullshit, and I'd be fine to hear THAT on the rock stations.. but no, people need garbage... if you knew about Against Me! though, you'd hear how awful it is in comparisson, and realize where I came from is real. Rancid.

  77. w.... ....

Comment 2: by your standard of "music" ozzy osbourne, sabath, iron maiden and so on have no value in your true music world based on the single fact that a specific amount of people praise them and appreciate their music. You are what's wrong with todays music.

  78. w.... ....

So basically a band without passion that creates music is not music?I agree with you there, without passion, that band is just a mix of words without meaning but you're wrong about listener. His passion for singing and making music is more obvious than most bands i've ever listened to and the worth of the band shouldn't be judged by how many fans they have.It should be judged for it's meaning and overall feel when you hear them.To you famous=not music,so wouldnt elvis, johnnycash etc. be non-music?

  79. s.... ....

sagapaw toso poly vlimataki mu. k esy dn me pisteueis....

  80. J.... ....

people who judge others for thinking too hard bother me.. popularity is platitude... very simply put. fuck your positive note, people arent worth pleasing, because the deluded pressure they put on human beings as though they were royalty or some type of champion... a real good band is usually a visceral need to pursue passion, not acclaim. giving in to the music industry is giving up on music... having to play any part other than your instrumentation is not MUSIC. its entertainment - gross

  81. N.... D....

What happened to the version with the girl in it?

  82. w.... ....

Ruined? so popularity increase = ruination? You two fuckwits need to get your heads out of your asses.
Isn't it a good thing that a band gets more support? support means more content and it makes everyone in the band feel more appreciated.

  83. Z.... S....

This is the shittiest mindset ever. "True fans" should show some fucking respect to the artist and be happy theres some fame and some money for true artists out there so they can afford to make records and go on tour.

  84. Z.... S....

Dude he started Listener back in like the early 2000s...

  85. E.... o....

You do realize Dan Smith has been making music under the name Listener since like 2002, right?

  86. B.... B....

Don't be a whiney little hipster. Who cares that more people know him? You should be happy for him that he's gaining a bigger fanbase. But I guess his success isn't as important as your ability to tell your friends, if you have any, that you listen to stuff that relatively few people know. As long as he stays awesome, anyone can listen to him. Go fuck yourself.
    I bid thee farewell.

  87. J.... ....

since you had nothing positive to contribute, I'll guess now that the new fans care more than you.. I realized this same fact with Against Me! in about 2004.. you probably fucked that up for me, so don't even go there! everything is made to be ruined eventually.

  88. T.... ....

If I tried to make a tab for this song, would anyone be interested?

  89. J.... O....

"What were we thinking" - Everytime he says that I think of the world and how things are so bad for some people where others have too much...

  90. Z.... .....

    hes a poet

  91. L.... ....

you worrying about how pretentious other people are is so pretentious of you. so unbased.

  92. C.... K....

"True fans," you could not possibly sound more pretentious.

  93. N.... ....

    WARNING!
Do not do your blablabla here. Listen and be quiet.

    Thanks.

  94. L.... F....

Nah. Let's be completely honest here - people who discover little-known bands that later become big usually feel special because they recognized the talent before others.

Some of these people - not all - then start publicly complaining about the band getting big in order to subtly draw attention to the fact that they admired the band first. In doing so, they're trying to establish superiority over later fans.

It's all very counter-intuitive and immature, but people continue to do it anyway.

  95. O.... ....

He deserves more fans, and more people need to hear his lyrics.

  96. W.... ....

All I did was state a concern. I said absolutely nothing about my own opinions. Now get the fuck away from my comment and keep your petty thoughts locked in your pretentious head you bastardized hick faggot.

  97. f.... ....

I just found out about this band and I just love what I have from them this far. I can't find a version of "Not waving, drowning" that isn't a capella though. Is there a whole version of this album with instruments to back up these amazing poems?
