Linkin Park - Slip (1998 Unreleased Hybrid Theory Demo) Lyrics
In the center of the silence
Violent thoughts are thrown through
The thick smoke and flickering lights that brighten the room
All the things that you wanted to say get lost and thrown away
You can fade and hesitate to speak your mind
Sometimes there's someone you know who just doesn't care
Has to see you go to know you were there
This is the sun behind the rain
Even if sometimes I feel I can't stand another minute
May begun to run an endless race
But I never look back when I begin it
Feel that this is the sun behind the rain
Even if sometimes I feel I can't stand another minute
May begun to run an endless race
I know all of this will soon be gone
You don't really have to prove them wrong
Sometimes you got no control of where you go
Taken down a road you don't know
And you feel so lost that you wanna hide your face
You don't recognize the place your in
Sometimes the sun doesn't shine your way
Sometimes the night doesn't turn to day
But sometimes the light's so bright it burns through the night
And keeps the darkness at bay (far away)
This is the sun behind the rain
Even if sometimes I feel I can't stand another minute
May begun to run an endless race
But I never look back when I begin it
Feel that this is the sun behind the rain
Even if sometimes I feel I can't stand another minute
May begun to run an endless race
But I never look back when I begin it
I know all of this will soon be gone
You don't really have to prove them wrong
I know soon enough you'll make them see
You'll be far away from them with me
Follow the link in the chain without a name
Still alight the darkened days' remains
Taken away from the place you've been trapped
Break all you know to bring it all back
This is the sun behind the rain
Even if sometimes I feel I can't stand another minute
May begun to run an endless race
But I never look back when I begin it
Feel that this is the sun behind the rain
Even if sometimes I feel I can't stand another minute
May begun to run an endless race
But I never look back when I begin it
I know all of this will soon be gone
You don't really have to prove them wrong
I know soon enough you'll make them see
You'll be far away from them alone with me

Linkin Park Slip (1998 Unreleased Hybrid Theory Demo) Comments
I thought he was saying “ this is the sun behind the rain “
your though is correct, it's "this is the sun behind the rain" but the video uploader is an idiot and write as "this is the summer of the rain" :-/
This must have been the University's anthem.
I know all of this Be soon Will gone you always said the less you knew in this world Like shinoda with saturn we all were loosing soul in those things
Is that snare supposed to be a piccolo snare? It sounds pretty cool.
Anyone else noticed (and fell in love with) the way some sections are separated in this song? It has a little solo part for each instrument. Intro, which is pretty long, is drums only, then after 1st chorus, it's a short solo bass part (the bass line from verse). Then, right before last chorus, there is a tiny guitar interlude. Also, we all know that LP didn't often use guitars fading out for several seconds at the end of a song, but rather ended their songs with vocal line or with the last chord being muted or with a background synth/sample. Well, here, they went for fading guitars. But being Linkin Park, they probably felt that wasn't enough, so they added a nice guitar harmonic part on top (or behind it). This is interesting, because as the distorted guitars are fading out and becoming quietter, the harmonic part seems to be getting louder (in fact it's just easier to hear, because the other guitar are quietter), which is the exact opposite of what you would except from a fade out ending
Pre-Chorus (the pre-chorus in the video is wrong)
This is the sun behind the rain
Even if sometimes I feel I can't stand another minute
May begun to run an endless race
But I never look back when I forget it
I know that this is the sun behind the rain
Even if sometimes I feel I can't stand another minute
May begun to run an endless race
But I never look back when I forget it
Almost. I certainly hear (and in other sources I also saw) the last line of each repeat being: But I never look back when I begin it
This and Blue sound so 90's and I love it.
Papercut
Good song !
I am hearing this for the first time wow rip
This is the Sun behind the rain
I freaking Mike raps that was awesome
They slipped up and didn't make this on an album.
1:02 is the same melody of "Red to Black" by Fort Minor.
Best LP song ever. Rip chazzy
You have my hears
I actually think it sounds like runaway, the 'summer of the rain...' part being 'im gonna runaway never say goodbye...'
I didn't spot that similarity, but I certainly think this song is also about running away
Singing about suicide ny hanging as early as 1998? Shit...
SalveMonesvol more like shooting yourself instead of hanging because he says made the gun to run and end this race(life)
@Munky Bread Chester actually once left his home drunk and with a gun, however he was found by the police before he could hurt himself. That was in like 2006. The lyric you're referring to was probably written by Mike aswell
Doesn't really matter though, the actual lyric is: "May begun an endless race but I never look back when I begin it"
I see this song as a more of a dialogue, Mike wants to run away from someone and from the darkness, while Chester comes in as someone who helps him out and runs with him. I might be wrong about the meaning, but the lyric, as well as few others, was transcribed wrong in this video
@Ondra Spendlik hmm
Sounds like a Fuse (Xero) remake
Earthbound!!!!!
Sounds more Meteora-like than Hybrid Theory... I was surprised that this was a HT demo
RIP Chester
Fabrizio Garreta 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Isn't part of me is figure 9 or don't stay have no idea. Bit confusing.
daphne munroe Figure .09
Blackout The Reking Whale its also a unrelease demo i suggest the chester version and not mike Wakefield
TrustNoOne 622 yep
daphne munroe Forgotten
Sounds like Forgotten to me
it does
Avicenna Shinoda no. Rhinestone is Forgotten
now I want to listen to forgotten now.
has the same layout while being different. main part is primarily the rap and Chesters part is small
"THIS IS THE SUMMER OF THE RAIN!!!!!!!" that just sounds badass.
The right one would be " This is the sun behind the rain" .
Sounds a lot like APFMH. While sweet, these demos had an unfinished feel to them. Hybrid Theory was awesome because it was a natural evolution of these demos. Keep it up LP....I'm flicking dying for a new album!!!!!!!!
Rohan Upadhyayula Nope Essaul is APFMH
