Linda Ronstadt - What's New Lyrics

What's new
How is the world treating you
You haven't changed a bit
Handsome as ever I must admit

What's new
How did that romance come through
We haven't met since then
Gee but it's nice to see you again

What's new
Probably I'm boring you
But seeing you is grand
And you were sweet to offer your hand
I understand

Adieu
Pardon my asking what's new
Of course you couldn't know
I haven't changed
I still love you so

Adieu
Pardon my asking what's new
Of course you couldn't know
I haven't changed
I still love you so

When this came out is was barely old enough to drive and I was working miles away from home so to ease my nerves while driving in the rain at night I would listen to the What's New Album on cassette. It's still one of my favorites to this day.

  14. m.... ....

Instant goosebumps ... just add Linda Ronstadt!!!! This is REAL music!!!!

  15. P.... P....

Danny Kortchmar the love interest in the video.
    Her guitarist.

  16. L.... M....

    She's one of our sisters.

  17. h.... ....

The trio of albums she did with Nelson are brilliant. Music that is absolutely timeless.

  18. e.... ....

Ah Linda, we all, all still love you so...

  19. B.... R....

When Linda takes it up a 4th, my heart skips a beat. Such a voice!! Perfection!!! She to me remains tthe most underrated singer. She could sing anythng and make it sound great; and of course, she always looked great!!!

  20. G.... S....

In 1982, I'd met a man who'd hired me for some work in NYC, and he told me to keep an eye out for a resurgence of music from the 40s to be hitting the airways in the next year. I had a feeling he was a "Big Wig" in the biz since I'd shared with him some of my own experiences regarding Robert Stigwood, Alan Carr, etc., and he was veritably finishing my sentences! Lo-and-behold, a year later, Linda came out with "What's New?", so it was pretty incredible. Next thing you know, nearly everyone; Barry Manilow, Barbra Streisand, Toni Tennille, etc., were putting their incomparable stamps on many classic songs. It makes sense, since no matter how old they are, a great song is forever! Linda was the leader in this resurgence, though, and wow, this album simply shines!

  21. J.... ....

I wonder if Linda had a crush on Danny “kootch” Kortchmar. He's such a stud! Love his cocky smile 😍😍

  22. T.... G....

Live, Linda never lipsynch’d... Her live performances were as good or better than her recorded ones...❤️

  23. M.... T....

Wow; how romantic is this?!?!?  Linda Ronstadt was one of the most most beautiful and talented vocalists of my or any generation!!!  Has anyone ever seen such gorgeous eyes?  I'm in love with her all over again!

  24. M.... D....

    keeping it alive

    M.... D....

Hollywood Love Story pfffft! They've been pulling the props over our eyes like Forever!

  25. H.... D....

I remember my mom asking me if I liked this video and I said yes I do she smiled at me and said "so do I ". I look at this much differently now and like it even more.

  26. F.... P....

I adored this when it came out and still loving it in 2018 , some things are eternal !

  27. S.... B....

Linda did an incredible job covering this classic from the Great American songbook.

  28. T.... C....

I heard this song on the very first dvd player and fell in love

  29. A.... V....

What's very puzzling about this song is that it has no bridge or chorus. It's just a verse over and over. One could call it a chorus over and over, but the words change, so it's really a verse. There's a modulation to make it a little more interesting, but not really. It's got a pretty melody over some nice chords, but Bob Haggart should have finished writing it. It lacks form. Go figure.

    A.... V....

The Grace Slick penned White Rabbit has no bridge or chorus either. But still a Classic.

  30. S.... G....

Such a beautiful song performed by a beautiful lady anda real talented artist.

  31. m.... b....

    Wouawwwwwwwww

  32. R.... H....

WHEN I FIRST HERD THE SONG I MELTED ON THE SPOT. WHAT A MAGNIFICENT VOICE.

  33. M.... C....

What's New? I wanted to tell you so badly today I rode a bicycle for the 1st time in forever & I only fell twice! It was great & I was wishing so badly that you were there with me, I was like the wind! But I haven't changed..I still love you so....

  34. H.... D....

One of my all-time favorite songs and videos. Takes me back to a different time

  35. g.... j....

The only other word you could add here to describe beautiful Linda is ... Glamorous - Wow!

  36. G.... ....

Linda, you're beautiful and your beautiful voice. Thank you for selecting this song. My Dad played this back around 1940s when he was in a jazz band here in Cali...he's smiling, r.i.p. like me listening to your beautiful interpretation.

  37. n.... ....

Oh baby. And Jonathan Hamm as the magician? Ask HIM what’s new! Ms. Rondstadt is no longer able to sing a note with no vibrato, and that’s a crying shame. Parkinson’s infirmity has left us bereft of one of the most beautiful voices that ever was. At least we can all enjoy her incredible recorded performances on this, the devil’s playground!

    n.... ....

    M.............

  38. H.... D....

    so wonderful she is

  39. w.... ....

this is the first time i've had an 'earworm' that i was happy about...been humming What's New and listening to every version i can find for weeks now. one of the best standards ever.

  40. G.... ....

For you Fox Trotters, I know you'll enjoy listening to What's New by the New Orleans based band (Bob Crosby) instrumental released in 1939 found here on youtube. Linda R does such a beautiful interpretation of this jazz treasure.

  41. T.... W....

This is simply an amazing song in so many ways

  42. S.... ....

at 75 ,my memories can only get stronger listening to this music style and her voice--wow to be young again

  43. m.... m....

    Very nice

  44. J.... W....

I love this song and video too,

  45. D.... D....

Saw her in concert outside Chicago a few decades (?) back. She was absolutely perfect. She and the orchestra were especially awesome at this song.

  46. E.... T....

She had 3 Albums of Hits with OLD STANDARDS in the 80s.. That is Pretty Incredible! Somebody Help a Brotha Out and BRING BACK CREATIVITY IN MUSIC!!

  47. B.... H....

I fantasize that she is singing to me.

  48. M.... M....

I bought this album the week it came out. I haven't heard it in years. It's aged very, very well. Maestro Riddle at his best and Lovely Linda at hers.

  49. c.... ....

    I remember the 80's...

  50. G.... S....

    What's new is a oxymoron. 1983 video

    G.... S....

1939 song. one of the all time most unusual and beautiful chord progressions.

  51. K.... A....

Aghhh, the way she sings "how is the world.... treating you?" gets me especially! Genius.

    K.... A....

Ahhh.... what does it for me is the end, when she so passionately pleas out,
    "I still love you sooooooo"
    💔 Heartbreak, pure heartbreak.

    K.... A....

    Scheherazade Noir yaaaas! 🌹

  52. M.... R....

Powerful, interpretive voice. This three CD collection is my all time favorite. Love the music, love the artist, and love the arrangements. It's perfect!!!!

  53. T.... B....

Linda is So Gorgeeous and Danny makes my knees weak!!! ♡

  54. I.... ....

Wow what a voice, such passion.

  55. T.... ....

    Love this song!!

  56. S.... F....

Linda is such a versatile singer and it is a perfect match with Nelson Riddle Orchestration.

  57. 5.... F....

Damn she had such an amazing voice. The age of great vocalists (male and female) are behind us.

  58. G.... B....

Right up there with the Billie Holiday version. When this came out in the 80s, Sis and I were obsessed!!!! We were 8 and 9 and would lip sync this in the mirror into a hairbrush.

  59. F.... B....

    Incredible woman incredible voice!

    F.... B....

such an amazing voice wow pure n sweet

  60. S.... G....

    Absolutely love this. Flawless perfection.

  61. a.... ....

Just wonderful. The song, the voice, perfect diction. Very special.

  62. T.... ....

Props to the incomparable Nelson Riddle and his orchestra.

    T.... ....

They make this song what it is. In fact, everything she did with nelson Riddle was goo because of him and his orchestra.

    T.... ....

and teaching her how to sing that big band era style which of course she nailed

    T.... ....

    Franks Orchestra

  63. T.... ....

Oh my word, so devastatingly lovely. Just sheer perfection.

  64. C.... S....

entered Billboard Oct 29, 1983..reached #53 reached #5 on Adult Contemporary

  67. K.... N....

    BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  68. D.... F....

Am iconic number sung so well by Linda!

  69. J.... T....

    love this

  70. P.... G....

What makes this great song so wonderful is Linda's deep feeling for the words of this creation. How many thousands of us are touched by the love that somehow slipped away, so swiftly and sadly. Even worse is the harshness of Parkinson's that hit this beautiful, beautiful, lovely woman, causing her to stop singing. Tragic; life is so treacherous at times. Frank Sinatra is my top version of this song with Linda a very close next best.

    P.... G....

Phil, This is one of my favorite recordings and a day wouldn't be a day to me if I didn't include the big band sound in it. Bob Crosby (Bing's brother) did maybe the first recording of this in the '30's...An ultra beautiful version. Still Linda's is my favorite.

    P.... G....

I like eidye gormet's version a tiny bit better. But this is great singing by this Lady of Music.

    P.... G....

today 2019 Dead or Alive She's bringing back

    P.... G....

    It's not Parkinson's
    It's called Progressive supranuclear palsy

  71. A.... F....

Oh, I'm not crying, I just have a passion of cutting onions close to my eyes.

    A.... F....

    Me too!!!

  72. F.... R....

linda música, excelente voz. nota 10

  73. S.... N....

I wonder if MTV played this video after it was made in 1983? I don't think VH1 was around yet.

    S.... N....

MTV played this video frequently in the mid 1980s. The performance is out of this world

  74. 1.... ....

    Gets no better!

  75. a.... m....

when we both lived in VENICE.FL. i met co=author BOBBY HAGGART. never gigged with him tho. it does'nt seem to matter who record this. its beautiful

  76. b.... ....

I really like this. Never tire of it.

  77. P.... R....

Beautifully filmed video for Linda's beautiful rendition of a classic song. She sure had gorgeous pipes.

  78. D.... S....

Love this rendition I  had heard Bing Crosbys before but couldn't remember the refrain only the melody Found this by accident Wond'rful Thanks for Uploading this TAM

  79. m.... ....

    what genre is this? blues??

    m.... ....

This is a lovely example of what's known as a "torch song." Songs about unrequieted love in which the narrator is "carrying a torch" for someone. "You Don't Know Me," by Ray Charles proves that men sing torch songs too.

    m.... ....

    Send in the Clowns ...

    m.... ....

You don't know me is actually an Eddie Arnold song that ray Charles covered...

    m.... ....

madclowntapia Carly Simon put out a nice album of similar songs a few years ago.

    m.... ....

    And Jo Stafford

  80. E.... ....

That's Danny Kortchmar in the video!

  81. B.... R....

Could there be a more beautiful song, with such a beautiful arrangement, and such a beautiful rendition, by such a beautiful lady? If so, I haven't found it.

  82. R.... W....

    perfection.

  83. Y.... ....

super, super...bardzo się cieszę że mogę cieszyć się swoją całą płytą...

  84. j.... ....

Linda did an absolute perfect job singing this song

    j.... ....

Except that she's singing a bit flat (and sharp in places), and her lip-synching is off.

  85. p.... ....

Various artists are singing this song, but Linda's (Nelson Riddle Orchestra) is the best.

    p.... ....

Frank Sinatra 1958 with Nelson Riddle is the best because it's haunting as is the album it stems from Sings For Only The Lonely.
The trombone solo on Sinatra's is great.

  86. W.... ....

Very nice. The trumpets reminds me of a good friend of mine, now deseased who played trumpet in his younger days in his teens snuck out of house to go to gigs for some local big bands. Way before my birth, but I remember him one night picking up a trumpet and doing some of this. Fantastic! He was like a dad to me. He was Army Aircorps WWII POW.

  87. f.... ....

This is just pure heaven on the ears. Smooth powerfull voice..It doesnt get any better than this!
