Linda Ronstadt - Still Within The Sound Of My Voice Lyrics

Where have you gone my darling one
Are you on your own
Are you having fun
Is there someone to hold when you need it bad
Is it uncontrolled like the love we had

Does the day go by like a memory
Do you ever try to remember me
In an automobile or a crowded bar
Well I hope you're all right wherever you are

And if you're still within the sound of my voice
Over some radio
I just want you to know
You were always my only choice
And wherever you go
That I still love you so
If you're still within the sound of my voice

In the dead of night
Do you hear me call
Something's not quite right
No one's there at all
Did you make a mistake
Was it in your head
Or was it really me talking
To your heart instead

And if you're still within the sound of my voice
Watching this video
I just want you to know
That it always made me rejoice
Just to have you so near
There's a place for you here
If you're still within the sound of my voice

I am calling like the echo of a passing train that cries
One last time before it fades into the distant hills and dies
I am sending out a message like a ship out on the sea
In distress but only you can send a lifeline out to me

Are you still within the sound of my voice
Why don't you let me know
I just can't let you go
If it's wrong then I have no choice
But to love you until I no longer have a will
Are you still within the sound of my voice

I am calling like the echo of a passing train that cries
One last time before it fades into the distant hills
And dies

Linda Ronstadt Still Within The Sound Of My Voice Comments
  1. a.... ....

I heard this song playing in a record store in 1989 and was amazed by it. I bought the album that day - and I still have it! Glen Campbell's version is good, but Linda Ronstadt's version is magical.

This is One of L.R. greatest songs ( of the many ) The last 50 seconds sends me into Heaven. Her powerful strong voice and the musical accompaniment are superb. And how ironic her movie is coming out this weekend. Linda Ronstant, A Talent and A Jewel . ~d(-_-)b~

Linda, I fell in love with your voice so much, that I swiped my mother's cassette tape and never returned it.

  11. T.... -....

Aaron Neville did not record on this track.

  13. D.... ....

This song is one of the greatest tearjerkers of all time. I love the lyrics and brilliantly sung.

  14. c.... ....

Wife asked me to leave the day this came out in 1989. 17 years is something you don't easily walk away from. This song helped me let go. Slowly. Thanks Linda.

  15. N.... ....

Great version. Glen Campbell’s my fav version

  16. L.... w....

Glenn Campbell croaked this song out. Linda owns it.

    L.... w....

Glen Campbell's voice and Linda's voice aren't even in the same Galaxy.

  17. J.... W....

Such a powerful voice who can make any song better. A damn shame Parkinson's had to rob her of her ability to sing. The world is less better without it.

  18. T.... B....

The build-up toward the end... then the softening to the plaintive close. Chills.

To the person who posted this -- thank you! -- one of my very favorite Ronstadt songs. Just one minor point of correction: although the track is from the album "Cry Like A Rainstorm, Howl Like The Wind," which does prominently feature Aaron Neville duetting with Linda on several songs, this is not one of them. She is completely solo on this tune. Thanks!!

    Amazon also lists this as having Neville. Maybe he's playing the violins on his synthesizer (-;

    b.... ....

Even better than the GC original

  20. R.... J....

Linda's beautiful voice makes this Jimmy Webb gem her own.

  21. J.... M....

Me and my dad used to listen tothis song together

  22. R.... B....

Have always loved Linda's rendition of Jimmy Webb's tune. Oh my, what a voice! I get chills.

    R.... B....

i like coming across these newer uploaded videos with no comments or barely any at all. people can be so insensitive and so incredibly cruel. this is one of the greatest ballads linda ever recorded. she just shines.

    r.... s....

The way her career ended in Parkinsons was cruel indeed. And right now you don't hear much about her. But remember, even Shakespeare disappeared from the public eye after his career ended. Linda will be "discovered" by the Millennials, or their kids, or their grandkids, and they will be blown away all over again. Her music will survive. As you say, she just shines.

I agree powerful. My favorite from this album is 'Adios'.

I love and absolutely adore Linda Rhondstat. You just can't replace anyone of her beautiful voice heart soul and talents. I only wish I could hug her and tell her thank you for all of the many way's that she's blessed my life. Even when it giving educational lessons to my teenage daughter... by her song LOVE IS A ROSE. Thank you beautiful Linda Rhondstat

    Sincerely,
    ROSEANNE TOELKES
