Linda Ronstadt - Roll Um Easy Lyrics

Well I am just a vagabond
A drifter on the run
And eloquent profanity
It rolls right off my tongue

And I have dined in palaces
Drunk wine with kings and queens
And darling on darling
You're the best thing I ever seen

Won't you roll me easy
So slow and easy
Take my independence
With no apprehension no tension
Walk in, talk in paradise
Sweet paradise

Well I been around this country
From Denver to the oceans
And I never met girls that could sing so sweet
Like the angels that live in Houston
Singing roll me easy
So slow and easy
Play your concertina be a temptress
Darling I'm defenseless

Sing in harmony, in unison
Sweet harmony
Gotta hoist the flag and I'll beat your drum

Sing in harmony, in unison
Sweet harmony
Gotta hoist the flag and I'll beat your drum

Woah roll me easy
So slow and easy
Take my independence
With no apprehension no tension
Walk in, talk in paradise
Sweet paradise

Linda Ronstadt Roll Um Easy Comments
  1. T.... K....

I can't stop laughing my ass off I had to come here for the comments I knew people are going to be shiting on this version completely oblivious in a fucking fact Lowell not only arranged it but loved it so much he even played slide guitar on it..
is it different from the Little feat version yes it is gang but here's something interesting for you to know if you're a real Little feat fan you should know that easy to slip willing and a few more appeared on more than one album in different styles it's almost like this what you're so used to from Little feat Dixie Chicken that strip down bluesy version of this song and a totally different bar country rock Style version that Linda through down is the same thing Lowell was doing with a bunch of those..
all you have to do is pick up the original Little feat Blue Album looking like it was taken out in the remote desert.
and then have a listen to willing and then look at how many different times George would do it in different ways

  2. m.... ....

Wow, Nigel Olsson on drums... too cool!! Elton's loss was Linda's gain!!!

    m.... ....

Elton never lost him. he just was jamming with other people in between albums..
kind of like what you would find members of Toto doing
and Tom Petty Heartbreakers also... lending their work is great session musicians and in-demand playing

  3. s.... b....

When Lowell died I was hoping Bonnie would replace him in Little Feat but the Gods had different plans!

  4. D.... D....

The Queen. No one compares. No one.

    D.... D....

    Debbie Decker yup😘

  5. m.... h....

Great song I don,t care who sings it. Check out wet wet wet version on a lake in Scotland.

  6. F.... G....

My father, Lowell George on the slide guitar on this track.

    F.... G....

+Forrest George  Hey - Tell Pops he KILLED it !!  ;)

    F.... G....

And it is a masterful slide performance. I would have loved to have heard a Ronstadt album in which all guitars were played by Lowell George and Dan Dugmore. The tour for the LP would have been magic with those two trading licks. I also would have wanted that LP to feature a duet version of 'Dixie Chicken.'

    F.... G....

yeah what's really cool about your dad back in the day this was such a laid-back bluesy number from Dixie Chicken..
but when he really dug a cover or playing with somebody doing one of his songs, he gave it his all cuz it was really need to see a year-and-a-half later he was the slide guitar played by him on Linda's great cover...
just like with Jackson Browne a year later in between the last record album and time loves a hero..long will pop up with Jackson Browne on your bright baby Blues from The pretender.. slide and supplying background vocals..
awesome to see your comment on one of your dad's contributions..
I mean this cut even Peter Asher the producer brought it Nigel Olsson from Elton John's Band sit behind the kit on this one..

    F.... G....

    Your father was a genius

    F.... G....

proud to be named after your dad

  7. R.... C....

Bender 138 should be horse whipped for ragging on Linda, IMHO. ARE WE CLEAR?

  8. L.... D....

this has got to be 1 of her best songs of all time.

  9. J.... M....

You ever her cover of Pancho and Lefty? She makes it her own........and Carmalita too

    J.... M....

check out her cover from hasten down the wind a year later of Tracy Nelson's down so low..
cars Tracy wrote that about Steve Miller back in nineteen sixty-eight cuz she was from Wisconsin to and Steve was from Milwaukee..
and lo and behold next thing you know he wanted to go out form the Steve Miller Band out to Frisco so we did but Steve a being from Milwaukee his godfather was Les Paul the coolest part was there..
but him and Tracy were dating and years later no one knew who the down solo was about from Tracy Nelson she came out and said in an interview about 5 years ago it was about Steve Miller when he left to go to Frisco and left her.
that's another one when you watch Linda's vocal is just beyond amazing

  10. m.... w....

I do believe Lowell played slide gtr on this version

    m.... w....

yes he did he was so into the fact that Linda was doing one of his songs he's like shit man let me play slide on it... Peter Asher was like well hell yeah

  11. c.... ....

@bender138 I understand. I just think that when you cover someone else's tune the goal is to make it your own. The best artists do that successfully. I think she did with this track. I don't think she destroyed it at all. I think she gave it a new dimension.

  12. b.... ....

@cyberlucy We are just going to have to disagree on this one. Some songs are just so perfect as originally recorded that it borders on crime to change the pacing. Roll em Easy is in MY mind clearly one of these songs. You can't improve on perfection. All you can do is destroy it.

  13. c.... ....

@bender138 Slapped? Sorry I really do not agree. I think the Little Feat version is awesome (I love Little Feat) certainly, but this is just sublime. Lowell liked it or I don't think he would have offered it to her to use on the album or played the slide guitar on the track.

  14. w.... ....

For anybody, who critizes this version & says whether lowell george would be honored or not like it.You do realize that the slide guitar you hear on this version is played by lowell himself!!!

    w.... ....

well here's the interesting part about the whole thing lowell rearranged so many of his songs..
look at willin how many times did he put it on an album but how many times did he change it
itwas the same with easy to slip which most people know the kick-off version The rocking version from Sailing shoes
but it also came out of the original Little feat debut Album 2

  15. b.... ....

I love Linda and I love her version of I'm Willing, but she should be slapped for what she did to this song.,which IMHO is the best song Lowell George ever wrote and sang.

    b.... ....

bender138 . Are you fucking kidding me? Lowell who is playing the slide on this version suggested and arranged Linda’s version. And Linda owned it and Lowell was collecting that royalty check. Lowell will slap you for talking shit to his mistress.

  16. c.... ....

I love how Linda takes a Little Feat song and just makes it hers. I'm sure Lowell was honored!

    c.... ....

Not only was he so honored he also played slide on it!!

  17. M.... ....

thank you ceeeeeg!! I have been hoping for a while that someone would post this.
now if someone would post the title track to this album, "Prisoner In Disguise". It is
one of Linda's most beautiful songs.....
