For all with unrequited loves, burning torches for years. It happened to me too. I carried a heavy torch and ran till he finally caught up with me thirty years later. He was very emotional and all I could think was 'so glad it didn't work'.

I was in Tucson, Arizona yesterday and I wished I could thank Linda Ronstadt for this song. When I came home from Vietnam as a Infantry Soldier, one of my buddies was a KIA. I knew then, 50 years ago, it was going to take me a "long, long time" to get over his death, I haven't yet. I bought a jukebox many years ago, this song was the first one I put on it. I don't tell people why, now you all know.

This song came out when I was 14 years old and in love with a boy around the corner who just didn't know I existed. I would walk the streets and cry until I was completely drained. I could not understand why he didn't notice me. I sang this song so many times. It still invokes that feeling of utter hopelessness when I hear it. The vocals and music are stunning. Thank you Linda for sharing your talent.

She is my favorite woman Singer all time.

Linda is wonderful.  For me she is probably about #4 on my all time female singers list.  The first three being Patsy Cline, Anne Murray and Emmylou Harris.

I also loved the Eagles and J.D. Souther growing up.  Also I loved Graham Parsons, John Denver, Emmylou Harris, Joan Baez, James Taylor and Bob Segar.  Those days were great for music.

In the seventies, I remember when I always watched on tv Carl Sagan's Cosmos. This song was used and I fell in love with it. Not only the Cosmos interests me I then read also Sagan's "The Pale Blue Dot" book that was such a delight and so informational and satisfying. Thus this song, Linda Ronstadt, Carl Sagan and the Pale Blue Don (our planet Earth) got all connected in a such a beautiful way. Thank you Linda Ronstadt and the great pleasure of enjoying this gem you gave to us. It will live forever.

When I was a senior in high school (1979), this song was playing in our classroom, I heard my teacher tell a student, that at a Linda Ronstat concert when Linda started to sing this song an old lady reached over a grabbed his hand and said that she came only to hear that song. Don't know why, but I kinda doubted his story.🤔

I truly believe this performance by Ms Ronstadt takes its place among the greatest recordings of all time. The song on its own merits is exquisite but as a perfect complement to the artist, it has seldom been equaled. This gifted lady's voice is not just as listenable as they come, but the emotion in her voice is so rich with understanding it is wrenching. And that low-registered string accompaniment certainly does not hurt. A classic.
