Linda Ronstadt - I Get Along Without You Very Well Lyrics

I get along without you very well
Of course I do
Except when soft rains fall
And drip from leaves
Then I recall
The thrill of being sheltered in your arms
Of course I do

But I get along without you very well
I've forgotten you just like I should
Of course I have
Except to hear your name
Or someone's laugh that is the same
But I've forgotten you just like I should

What a guy
What a fool am I
To think my breaking heart could kid the moon
What's in store
Should I fall once more
No it's best that I stick to my tune

I get along without you very well
Of course I do
Except perhaps in spring
But I should never think of spring
For that would surely break my heart in two

What's in store
Should I fall once more
No it's best that I stick to my tune

I get along without you very well
Of course I do
Except perhaps in spring
But I should never think of spring
For that would surely break my heart in two

I love Linda but sometimes it's "too much" production and she overdoes it. Carly Simon owns this song. Linda's "What's New" is Linda at her best!

Phoenix85006 Carly always sounded so hard, phony actually to my ears. Always believed Linda.

  6. B.... C....

    singer and orchestration superb

  7. j.... H....

Technically Wonderful but Chet's version has a melancholy air without being sad.

Happy 70th Birthday Linda, and thanks for supporting us Atheists

    Linda sings this beautifully.

    m.... m....

    I agree

  10. D.... L....

I listen to Carly Simon's, Frank Sinatra's, and Chet Baker's versions and I find Linda Ronstadt version the most in tune with the lyrics.

  11. B.... R....

Yep, Riddle delivered a masterpiece in this album. But then the Great Nelson Riddle delivered masterpieces with all of them. Sinatra, R. Clooney, the great Keely Smith, and on and on...

    B.... R....

+Blenda Richter i just like the name nelson riddle its so british colonial or something

  12. K.... M....

Such a gorgeous song...check out my a capella version, if you're so inclined. :)

  13. L.... S....

Linda always gives such a classic performance of the immortal classics.....She is a true classic herself....

    L.... S....

Sad that Parkinson's felled this great voice

  14. M.... ....

Please, the song is immortal enough to withstand all the covers it gets. It's a woman's lyric, though, and my vote goes to Carly with the more spare arrangement.

  15. J.... H....

I think they should have done Nelson Riddle's 1955 Arrangement..More Strings.Less 80's Soft Jazz Sax..

  16. s.... ....

Carly Simon's arrangement blows me away as soon as it starts, nobody comes close, sorry.

    s.... ....

@Doug Thwaites Oh I have...it's lifeless, it wanders and meanders away from the backing, let's be honest, if Linda Ronstadt hadn't looked the way she did, she'd have been just another lounge singer.  The arrangement, considering the people involved, is awful...and crediting the song to HC is wrong...

    s.... ....

Your opinion, and your taste...that's all it is...enjoy it...I love Ronstadt's version...Is one better?? No...just a matter of taste...anything else is just someone looking for an argument.

    s.... ....

@slumpytube What a pompous opinionated ass displaying an encyclopedic ignorance. Inform yourself and also listen to A LOT of music before you open your mouth.

    s.... ....

I totally agree it just blows me away too . !!

    s.... ....

Carly delivers a very haunting version...excellent

  17. P.... S....

This is a great song and Linda is a great singer with a lovely voice. beautiful, no reservations

  18. B.... ....

Carly's version from her TORCH album is the definitive version. But Linda does a nice job here.

    B.... ....

I dunno. I REALLY like Diana Krall's version - the strings by Claus Ogerman are just *gorgeous* It brings me to tears. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQS_7A0l-wk

  19. c.... ....

    Perfect....!!!!

  20. h.... ....

carly's is better. Linda is a PERFECT singer - but Carly OWNS these type of classics

  21. j.... ....

I love the fact that Linda Ronstadt can sing all of the oldies as well as her regular stuff, or even better. Thank you for posting!

  22. e.... ....

Linda is amazing on this cut but the REAL standout is Nelson Riddles arrangement. Anybody who thinks he didn't deliver a masterpiece on this whole album has no ear for music. Every track on this record showcases his prowess as a masterclass arranger even more so than LRs ability to sing. Listen to the cut of Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered and you'll see I speak truth.

  23. B.... ....

    Carly's version RULES

  24. t.... ....

@Rraderr HAHA!! You are so funny
I was just think how freakin awesome my version of this is too!!!
    Yes!
    Love you for it

  25. s.... ....

this is very nice but carly simon's version is far more emotional and moving.

  26. t.... ....

@CR65 I agree. I find this version very boring!! Carly's is the best!

  27. c.... ....

I've heard Matt Monroe's version and I am happy to admit that Matt is wonderful with everything he sings.

  28. D.... M....

Please listen to Matt Monro's version. No one, but no one!, sings it like he does!

  29. c.... ....

Rraderr, I cannot think of a Hoagy Carmichael song that is not perfect. He was the real deal! Thanks for the comment. C.

  30. C.... W....

Carly Simon does this song very well too!
