I was all set to go on a date with this girl on tinder, a paint fight just like the one Lights video. It sounded so cool and I was so pumped, and then the night before she said I was just like her dad and told me to kill myself for 45 minutes straight.

This is a great example of how to properly cover a song. Lights transforms it and makes it her own while still honoring the spirit of the original, and she has the talent to make the end result sound really good.

For all the people complaining, sure, it isn't a punk song when performed like this - but so what? If she'd performed it just like the original, why would anyone want to listen to her instead of Rancid? It's pointless for an artist to try to create an exact replica of another artist's work. It's much more interesting to hear a cross-genre cover, and it also gives listeners a reason to want to hear the cover, because it's different.

I had never heard Rancid before this, so I am definitely a bit biased, but I feel that Lights just has a different approach to the song.  Lights gave the song a much more, chilled feeling, whereas Rancid is obviously very energetic.  Neither is bad, they are just...  Different.  But that's just me.

I like many different musical genres as I can be listening to black metal in an hour and then britney spears later in the evening. Think whatever you want but I'm like this... and I really like some other songs by Lights but this one in particular I don't. It's nice but it's too nice... She sounds too sweet in my opinion. I agree though that it brings another perspective. I'm biased because of the original version... but I really can't help it but prefer the original.
