Lightfoot, Gordon - Wherefore & Why Lyrics
When I woke this mornin', something inside of me told me this would be my day
I heard the morning train, I felt the wind change, too many times I'm on my way
Come on sunshine, what can you show me
Where can you take me to make me understand
The wind can shake me, brothers forsake me
And then I saw the sunrise above the cotton sky like a candycane delight
I saw the milkman, I saw the business man, I saw the only road in sight
Then I got to thinkin' what makes you want to go, to know the wherefore and the why
So many times now, oh lord I can't remember if it's september or july
Then all at once it came to me, I saw the wherefore, and you can see it if you try
It's in the sun above, it's in the one you love, you'll never know the reason why
Where can you take me to make me understand
The wind can shake me, brothers forsake me
The rain can touch me, but can I touch the rain
So much to lose, so much to gain

Lightfoot, Gordon Wherefore & Why Comments
Have always liked Gord but too many of his songs are over produced no need for strings in them and so many have them . N if picking but I find the strings annoying in most cases .
Come on SUNSHINE
reminded me of jimmy webb?
Gordon`s music can bring tears of joy to your eyes.I think of an earlier time and innocent one at that when I hear this music.Life will always have sweet moments and listening to this song is a sweet moment.
gordon lightfoot is THE shit
This guy has more talent than just about anyone I know of...Dan Fogelberg's in his league, I believe. Saw him at the Universal Amphitheatre in the Hollywood hills when it was still an open air venue. I had tickets the following year (Aug -78) to see Gordon there, but my fiance didn't make it back in time from a family reunion, so I sold the tickets to some friends who said it was a magical concert. Very disappointed I didn't get to see him.
Dan Fogelberg had an excellent voice, but you can't compare him to Gordon. Lightfoot's lyrics weave such an emotional and visual journey for the listener that just draws you in, time-after-time, it doesn't get old. Lightfoot's haunting vibrato sets him apart from other singers

This music gives me pride of our Anglo Saxon Canadian culture.
Ah he's an Indian.
nighthawk twoninetwo No Indian could write music this good.
It's not really Anglo saxon. There's nothing distinctly British/English about this song. It's more Canadian and North American sounding than it is British/English.
@Bill Bohrd: Agreed. Given that the English-speaking parts of Canada were largely founded by the English, the Scots, the Welsh and the Irish, I think it's appropriate to say that a lot of the music that has come out of English-speaking Canada is both Anglo-Saxon AND Celtic in terms of its major influences and origins.
@nighthawk twoninetwo I heard him saying in an interview lightfoot is of English origin in Gordon's case.
Better Canadian singer than Justin beiber
Our Boy Beiber doesn't have a chance in hell against Gordon.
Run for the hills Justin Beiber you don`t stand a chance in hell against Gordon.
Gord is a big fan of Beib
To me Gordon Lightfoot is the true-definition of Canuck.
How good is this guy??????? Every new song i hear(well new to me) is better than the other!!!!
The great Canadian storyteller and poet. He is a genius. If You Cculd Read My Mind....one of the greatest songs of all time IMO. Also, check out Circle of Steel. On a Winters Night, The House You Live In....etc etc
Gordo could not write a bad song if he tried..
I put both this remake and the original 1968 version in my "Lightfoot.." playlist.
One of my favorite Lightfoot pcs.............. says so much!
