Lightfoot, Gordon - Looking At The Rain Lyrics

Looking at the rain
Feeling the pain
Of love lost running though
My brain
Looking at the wind
Watching it spin
The leaves along the street
You win
Waiting for a line to fall
Telling you it's all a big mistake

Looking at a face
So out of place
Inside that picture frame
Of lace
Looking at the wall
Wishing you'd call
And tell me you're OK
That's all

Wishing this was all a dream
And I'd find you sleeping when I wake

Looking at the trees
So ill at ease
From sleep that will not come
That's me
Looking at the dawn
Knowing it's wrong
Still thinking of your love
That's gone

Wishing this was all a dream
And I'd find you sleeping when I wake

Looking at the rain
Feeling the pain
Of love lost running though
My brain
Looking at the wind
Watching it spin
The leaves along the street
You win

Waiting for a line to fall
Telling you it's all a big mistake
But the words won't come
I know I'd feel the same
Looking at the rain

I have a lot of love for my ex-wife.
Okay...this is a song that makes me think of her.
    Guilty!

  2. M.... ....

Simply one of the best. My brain and heart aches

  3. s.... ....

    That voice! Heaven sent.

  4. s.... ....

It's a beauty alright. Something to melt away whatever's become frozen inside. Clapton covers it nicely. Good to think of Eric admiring Gordon Lightfoot.

  5. P.... Q....

This song/album came out when I was 19 years old...great music plus a great album photo that for me captures the magic of Mr. Lightfoot...I wish I could back in time and be in that photo with Gordon and some of his friends and have a nice meal together...the leather jacket is too nice!😉

Bought this one on cassette in 1974. When I lost Debbie in 1980, this one came thundering back into my mind, along with a bunch of others. I still have a few photos, and on a rainy day, this one calls to me for another listen. Be at peace, darlin'.

    R.... M....

Sorry for your loss. You must have had something special that can never be replaced. I hope you see her again one day.

  7. s.... ....

No one could sing a sad song like Gord.

  10. k.... f....

  12. P.... L....

Sometimes words just escape me in trying to describe this man and his music..........

  13. J.... W....

Fantastic album through and through too bad it didn't get the notaraity it deserved..especially beautiful..it didn't seem to go anywhere..the shame of that makes no sense...

  14. S.... S....

Reminds me of when I was married. Before things fell apart, my ex and I used to get up to watch the sun rise, almost every day. Even if it was nasty weather. We sit and hold each other on the couch and enjoy the quiet. Usually had Gord playing softly in the background.

    Looking at the rain
    Feeling the pain
    Of love lost running through
    My brain
    Looking at the wind
    Watching it spin

Waiting for a line to fall
Telling you it's all a big mistake

Eric Clapton, of all people, recorded this song.

  21. M.... N....

Don Quixote is one of the best albums ever recorded. If you've never heard the whole album, you should check it out. Magnificent!

    M.... N....

Yes! So many classics that were overlooked by mainstream media!!! Definitely one of my favorite albums!!!

  22. g.... c....

He looks like William H Masey and Bryan Cranston had a baby.

    g.... c....

Bryan Cranston, yes. William H. Macy? NO!

  23. E.... C....

One of the most beautiful, yet under-rated, song that he ever sang.

  24. m.... l....

So much depth, emotion, poetry This is Magic

  25. B.... T....

What a Sad Love song. Still makes me cry after all these years. Gordon wrote that for his first wife, Britta. You can tell he still has feelings for her! " wishing it was all a dream and find. you by my side when I wake"
One of his most moving love songs💔😪 Thank you Gordon for all these beautiful songs we all can relate to!❤ God Bless and keep you safe!❤😘🙏

  29. T.... G....

This Song A Masterpiece Of Lost Loves In Ones Life . Trying To Make Sense Of Why and Where Are They Now . How Life Could Have Been So Much Better . Love Is Gone Forever.

    T.... G....

You have to figure it out yourself you just have to look

    T.... G....

Seems he created a lot of wreckage along the way. Poetic tragedies.

  30. J.... C....

Nice song, but sad.thinking of someone I loved so very much,😢

  31. R.... C....

Since Gordon Lightfoot was a folk singer in the 1970s, did he feel like Don Quixote?

    R.... C....

    try the fifties !

  32. t.... s....

A heartfelt remembrance of my best friend.

  33. i.... ....

    Love this.

  34. R.... E....

Just love this song. Like C. Schulz said, "Happiness is a sad song".

  35. B.... W....

one of my all time favorite Lightfoot songs. so sad, but perfect. There was a time when strings were considered cliche in 70s folk music, but Lightfoot's arrangements were something special.
