Lightfoot, Gordon - Dream Street Rose Lyrics

You've bin in all my dreams since you've been gone
Each mornin' that I wake up with the dawn
Dream Street Rose I like the way you smile
Dream Street Rose stay with me a while
You gave more than anyone could ask
You washed away all shadows from my past
Dream Street Rose heaven only knows
Dream Street Rose that's the way she goes
Dream Street Rose let us not pretend
Heaven knows will you love me
Right 'til the end

Somewhere in between there stands a dream
The sweetest dream that we have ever seen
Dream Street Rose I like the way you smile
Dream Street Rose please stay with me a while
Dream Street Rose I miss you when you're gone
Heaven knows I'm gonna love ya
From now on

Dream Street Rose I like the way you smile
Dream Street Rose stay with me a while
Dream Street Rose heaven only knows
Dream Street Rose that's the way she goes

    Gord had a swagger
    Gord had a way
    An Attitude of meryment
    When the guitar played
    His song like an anthem
    A banner in the wind
    Just like a horsman
    Who's bronko he did win
Kind of like that Melody lost within the choir
    Everyone is listening and straining
    To admire.

This is a song that ends way too soon.

A master storyteller, 12 string wizard, effortless picker.....

Terry Clements, Rick Haynes, Mike Heffernan, and Barry Keane are as good as it gets, and probably don't get enough credit for their outstanding contributions.
Carter Lancaster is a fine guitarist, but Terry will always be The Man in my book....R I P

I remember a show many years ago where Gordon was talking about other singers he had jammed with.... He pronounced Jerry Jeff Walker to be the best picker he ever played with. In a Hang-dog Hotel Room, no less

A few years after this song was released, and I was out of high school, I was working at a Denny’s restaurant as a busboy/dishwasher. The economy was in the toilet and it was the only job an unskilled kid could get unless he knew someone(I didn’t). The job sucked and the staff, with few exceptions was a collection of neurotic assholes managed by a woman who hated men while the customers were beyond nasty.
One night I was doing my sidework after a grueling dinner shift when this group of ten guys walked in. They were so filthy they looked like they had just
got out of coal nine. They headed into the restroom I had just cleaned up and I could only imagine what the men’s room would look like after they were done. I carried in this gallon jug of pink handsome, dropped it on the sink and hollered,”Let me know when you assholes are done.” Dumb words to say to a bunch of guys who were so big they could snap me in two. I went back out to the dining room and continued clearing tables. Ten minutes later, they were seated in one of the booth. One of them saw me, beckoned me over and said,”Hey listen kid, we really appreciater you leaving us the soap. We just spent The Who day setting up the show across the street(There was a carnival being set up at a nearby mall).” He handing me a card and said,”Here’s a pass to ride the rides for free. We’ll be there for the next week.” I wasn’t used to customers being nice to me like that. Hell, I wasnt used to anyone being that nice at all. As far as the men’s room, it was totally cleaned up
I took advantage of the situation. For the next week, when I got off work, I drove over to the carnival and rode the Ferris wheel before heading home. Those guys remembered me and let me hang out with them. I even helped on of them work on a balky generator when no one else was available. I kept hoping they would have offered me a job. I would have left home in an instant(They didn’t). But for a brief while during a miserable time in my life, some people were actually nice to me.
I tell this story because I lisatened to this album and song a lot back at that time. Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of that carnival and the workers who were a bunch of really cool people
