Lewis, Jerry Lee - The Pilgrim Ch. 33 Lyrics

See him wasted on the sidewalk in his jacket and his jeans
Wearin' yesterday's misfortunes like a smile
Once he had a future full of money love and dreams
Which he spent like they was going out of style
And he keeps right on a changin' for the better or the worse
And searchin' for a shrine he's never found
Never knowin' if believin' is a blessin' or a curse
Or if the going up is worth to coming down
He's a poet he's a picker he's a prophet he's a pusher
He's a pilgrim and a preacher and a problem when he's stoned
He's a walking contradiction partly truth and partly fiction
Taking every wrong direction on his lonely way back home
He has tasted good and evil in your bedrooms and your bars
And he's traded in tomorrow for today
Runnin' from the devils Lord and reachin' for the stars
And losin' all he loved along the way
But if this world keeps right on turning for the better or the worse
All he ever gets is older and around
From the rocking of the cradle to the rolling of the hearse
The going up was worth the coming down
He's a poet he's a picker...
There's lotta wrong directions on that lonely way back home

No Willie in this song. Not supposed to be either.  Jerry Lee Lewis - is he the mystery voice?  He sounds very old which fits the info. of Kris Kristoffers & Lewis on

@DJW998 Absolutely. I also have this track on 'Last Man Standing' It's the voice and it's the piana of the one and only JLL who's hell when he's well, and he's sure dam well right now. So there!

  6. D.... C....

Yeah, that's Jerry Lee. All it takes is half a note or two to tell the difference.

@LadyAlf57 Sorry Lady but that is NOT Willie. The phrasing is all wrong for Willie. He doesn't sing at that tempo. Also you don't hear Trigger.

@CaptRhett1 Love that story, thanks. I am a bit of a prangster myself and can relate LOL. Now at the beginning of the song he starts off with some dialogue and makes reference to Johnny Cash, another one of my all time faves, but I can't make out what he says. Can you clarify for me? Thanks

@sallyjeanpage That's Willie's voice all the way! I'd know it anywhere.

Kris wrote this song a long time ago. One of them missunderstood geniouses, who took the wrong direction at the time been, was his true rebelfriend the great Dennis Hopper...Great song as always when Kris`s delivers....Thx for sharing
