Lewis, Jerry Lee - Pick Me Up On Your Way Down Lyrics

You were mine for just a while
Now you're puttin' on the style
And you've never once looked back
At your own home across the track
You're the gossip of the town
But my heart can still be found
Where you tossed it on the ground
Pick me up on your way down

Pick me up on your way down
When you're blue and all alone
When their glamour starts to bore you
Come on back where you belong
You may be their pride and joy
But they'll find another toy
Then they'll take away your crown
Pick me up on your way down

They have changed your attitude
Made you haughty and so rude
Your new friends can take the blame
Underneath you're still the same
When you've learned these things are true
I'll be waiting here for you
As you tumble to the ground
Pick me up on your way down

Pick me up on your way down
When you're blue and all alone
When the glamour starts to bore you
Come on back where you belong
You may be their pride and joy
But they'll find another toy
Then they'll take away your crown
Pick me up on your way down

From a mad keen 75yo Aussie fan.
Had the pleasure to see Jerry Lee live in Melbourne,Australia at a venue called the Festival Hall,in the late 50's-early 60's & he was magnificent.
Jerry had all the young females in raptures, when he simulated shagging an uptight microphone.
One of the best live shows i have ever seen.
    Long live his memory.

  38. T.... H....

This guy breathes new life into every song he does. I like the Jerry Lee country stuff better than his rock and roll

    T.... H....

Jerry Lee leaves me "Breathless" !!

    T.... H....

    His rock was wood,
hay, and stuble; his country was, and is,
    God-given gold!

    T.... H....

True. He is a criminally underrated country singer.

    T.... H....

@D'Ascoyne but everything Jerry Lee did, he covered songs that you've heard a thousand times and made them sound like the had just been written for him.

    T.... H....

@hirdy6 agree with both of you. and am mad as hell that jerry isn't in ken burns' country music documentary.

  39. J.... J....

    last man standin'

  40. S.... T....

Great tune by JLL and that steel guitar is kickin ass.

    S.... T....

Damn right. This arrangement should have been lengthened
to allow some time for the steel guitarist to be featured independently; in this video he is never shown! What an injustice!

    S.... T....

    Milton Moo

    S.... T....

STEVE TELLER , the steel guitar IS kicking ass.

  41. R.... D....

JLL sure is animated at that piano.  A great entertainer.

    R.... D....

Roger Dee Jessie Coalter looking for blue eyes

  42. a.... d....

who was running sound? Can't hear the piano very well, IMO.

  43. A.... C....

    THE BEST EVER.

    A.... C....

Anthony Carpenter Chuck Berry is better

  44. B.... D....

He is The Killer, no doubt!

  45. R.... F....

@ merf1491 I'm not saying it was right but things were different back then especially in the southern states.  They were married for 13 years too remember.  Either way Jerry Lee is one of the most talented musicians of all time and you have to recognize that.  He has reached the top in both rock and country music and continues to perform even at 78.

    R.... F....

Ryan Frostad Now 83, still Rockin‘ Jerry Lee!!!!!! #1 The Killer... ❤️

  46. m.... ....

For 13 year olds maybe...just sayin!

  47. M.... R....

that came from the music channel of course, and wasn't certainly not killers fault. So foolish to dislike...

  48. R.... ....

Patsy's was very good but Jerry picked it up FOO2

  49. J.... M....

Well now I don't know whether I like this version best or Patsy Cline's version.

  50. B.... M....

    the killer kills again...

  51. S.... G....

    The greatest rocker -ever-NO CONTEST

    S.... G....

    Stew Gil ✅

  52. S.... ....

Jerry Lee was in Rock in Roll purgatory when he recorded two Albums in the late 60's. Another Place/Another Time and She Even Woke Me Up To Say Goodbye. With one swoop he went from Rock and Roll purgatory to Hillbilly Heaven. Two of the greatest country music albums ever recorded. He's the BEST when he wanted to be.

    S.... ....

Amen; so well worded. From one who loves JLL and
Ludwig Von Beethoven with the same measure of
    enthusiasm.

  53. c.... p....

i've been listening to jerry lee when my dad was young.i'm 62years old and i've never heard better.

    c.... p....

Jerry was definately one of rocks' forefathers. Between his voice and outstanding piano playing he was one of the greatest whether it be rock or country.

  54. b.... c....

Love Jerry Lee! Thanks for the great Music Video's...

  55. d.... ....

DISLIKED because of the annoying graphic crawl

  56. 6.... ....

The Genius of piano- JJL !!

  57. b.... ....

The Kendalls also did a great version.

  58. w.... ....

Jerry doing a great job on Charlie Walkers Big hit, Webb Pierce also has a great version

  59. B.... M....

    any ideas who's playing steel?

  60. c.... ....

    The spirit of '76!

  61. R.... D....

Patsy Cline had a version of this as well, but the words and tune were changed somewhat. I think I prefer JLL, especially when I can see him on video and watch him work those piano keys.

  62. T.... H....

We all love you Jerry Lee,what a Country Super Star but hold the Rock,PLEASE!!!!!

  63. c.... ....

Married again (number 7) at 76, keep on rockin' JL

    c.... ....

I hesitate to write this because I love Jerry
    Lee Lewis and feel
    it is with the utmost
sincerity that he praises God in three
persons through the many Gospel songs he has recorded that
    have blessed me so;
    however, there is a
    huge issue and worry
    for me regarding JLL
    or anyone who gets
    into SEVEN! marriages, based on
    caveats appearing in
    Holy Scripture which
I'll spare you from propounding on. I
hope God blesses JLL much more in
    the next life than he
has in the present one, and I shall hope-
    fully be witness to it.

  64. J.... M....

Oh boy! this so takes me back to when it WAS 1969!!! And it was all so happening!!!!

  65. r.... s....

    Impressive! A great artist.
