Levellers - Miles Away Lyrics
Do you ever think that we might be the same
Or do you see the world in such a different way?
It seems that parties, raves and lazy summer days
Have now all gone
Just wanna have a little fun
Then you're outta line
So tell me once again the real cause of all this pain
Weren't you once young before?
Didn't you try to change the score?
I can't believe it was so many years ago
Have you forgotten how it feels
To run naked in the field?
I always hope this place might stay the same
But you reached the point of no return again
Another face is being burnt and raped
For a moment away
Well, it's the price you say
That we all have to pay
For a minute's say
I just can't believe
It's really worth the bloody grief
With the money that you save
You just take a life away
The blood you steal
From all the people that you fear
I know that it's so

So cool that the date is your birthday. Beautiful sunny day in Saratoga it was. The Levelers were meeting their fans after the show and Peter Gabriel was starting on the main stage at the same time... it was so exciting. :)
the greatest moment of my life was seeing these guys live back in 2007. had grew up my entire life listening to them from the age of 5 because of my parents, finally seeing them on stage i was in awe and amazement.... such an amazing band
Don't be silly, go and set up a free festival this summer and see what happens. Unless its sponsored and funded by O2 and Coca-Cola its not going to happen because its completely illegal. If you can't be bothered with gigs and festivals anymore fair enough but don't knock others for going to what is the closest thing you are going to get to a proper festival in the real world these days.
Its not that people have changed its society that's changed. The radical left has been smashed by various laws including anti-union laws, council housing sales, outlawing the free festival scene, the Criminal Justice Act and now banning squatting. People are still prepared to take action but its becoming increasingly difficult. I went to a 100% peaceful Occupy protest once, the police decided to declare it illegal for no real reason and proceeded to violently arrest most people that stayed.
Oh it's changed alright, and yes, things never stay the same do they? how can they, thats History, progress, regression, call it what you will, way back in the eighties some of us thought we were trying to reignite something from the sixties or seventies that had been lost, but it hadn't, it had just changed into something else, since the eighties, nineties, and now noughties+ the youth movement and political landscape has changed beyond all recognition, but the cause remains the same...........
It's not a karaoke competition, jeez chill out..
They didn't sell out, they got old. When u r young good time=excitement. When u r old good time=peace + steady income. U cant do free gigs forever + u cant be on the front line of every demo when u got kids. What is sad is that the generations after us did nothing – even the occupy movement, which is the most unified thing for a long time is nothing compared to what we got up to. My 18 yr-old son is jealous of late 70s, 80s + early 90s youth culture. U r right in 1 way – too many sheep.
@maccaBable I'm glad its not just me that feels that way.
I saw them in Czech and they were amazing but for east europe quite hard to get on their concert
loved em since i was a teenager...but watched em sell out as i grew up....afraid i have grown apart from the levellers....leave the gigs, beautiful days to those that like to be followers....i think this is boring...souless....empty...talentless.....zzzclueless? like the new generation that are like sheep.
these guys prob sold out in 1994..in more ways than one! i remember festivals when they were real man!...bring back battle of the beanfield!
I love the zeitgeist album but feel Letters from the underground is of the same ilk and better than to be honest. Love all Levellers and been a fan of all albums since. Hello Pig was the hardest to get into but there are some cracking songs on there. 99 Minutes of Pleading being my fave!!!
@willowhound The sound shift was quite big its true, but the priciples have stayed the same. and its still good. Hello pig probably wasn't their best album but I really liked truth and lies and letters from the underground. It is ok for bands to try new things sometimes you know.
@alvisfolk I wouldnt say they've sold out. As far as I can see they've stuck to their principles far better than any other band I can think of. They may have changed a bit musically for a while, but they're back on form now.
@hanga73 that's a really good way of putting it :)
♥ Simon's voice - it tells all the stories......
