Level 42 - She Can't Help Herself Lyrics

When she was a baby the world was a picture
one twist of fate took her parents away
on a highway, they're not coming home
she's alone
then strangers appeared gave her love that she needed
over those green hills and so far away
like an echo, in the night she'd scream
in her dreams

She can't help herself, she can't help herself
she can't help herself crying alone
but there's so many crying like you

When nearly a woman a friend of the family
took that away that was precious to give
she pretended nothing happened there
through the years

She can't help herself, she can't help herself
she can't help herself crying alone
but there's so many crying like you

Now she walks alone down the lane made for lovers
too scared to open her heart to someone
close the door and push away the pain, once again

She can't help herself, she can't help herself
she can't help herself crying alone
all her bridges were burned long ago
she can't help herself, she can't help herself
she can't help herself crying alone
but there's so many crying like you

don't cry, leave a light on the landing hall
don't cry, there's a rainbow behind that door

just when you can't take anymore
... there'll be someone to help you
to break down the walls
just when you can't feel anymore
... there'll be someone
to help you to even the score
just when you can't give anymore
... there'll be someone
to help you to break down the walls
just when you can't take anymore

... there'll be someone for sure

  24. Michael Hoelen II

This song and "A Kinder Eye" get me every time. I've been a fan of Level 42 forever and even though this may not display virtuosity, it shows what else they can do as songwriters.

    Emanuel Assies

Michael Hoelen a kinder eye makes me wanna cry so beautyfull thats the same for this one

    MJ FAN

Michael Hoelen II Mark gave me this album a year before it came out so it means so much especially this and Seven Years

  25. Tony Barker

absolutely love level 42, but this song is so crass, what were they thinking, not a high point, stick to what you good at, leave this melodramatic shit to less sincere artists

    cobaltblue1975

Too close to home on some level? (really no pun intended). If so, it did its job. Music is meant to invoke feelings both positive and negative. It often identifies with the shit people go through from day to day. I honestly don't know what or who is behind this song but it must have been profound enough to them to tell everyone. Level 42 have always been great story tellers. Lying Still? Its Over? Both beautiful tracks that tell a story. Yes Yes, 6 months later. What can I say? Its the curse of the internet.

    Tony Barker

i agree, Lying still and Its Over really hit the heart strings but i feel this song is really hollow and not written by someone who has experienced this kind of episode but its almost as if a subject was chosen and this is what was produced...not Level 42 at their best lyrically

  29. Mike G

One of their most powerful songs ever. It touches me every time I listen to it.

  30. Marco Priori

    Allan Holdsworth solo was absolutely d e v a s t a t i n g! Lord knows why this song's not available on iTunes.

    Maz 1973

I agree. A Kinder Eye isn't available either. The problem is that the original studio album of "Guaranteed" isn't available on iTunes.

    xxxnstuffxxx

But it is available as a digital album on Amazon...I stopped using the Apple Store a long time ago in favour of Amazon for my iPod. Better range of music available with most CDs also available with instant download to iTunes.

    bassmanjoe

You should have bought it back in 1992, i did.

    bassmanjoe

    Guess i'm rather old?
