Less Than Jake - Portrait Of A Cigarette Smoker At Age 19 Lyrics

I used to be a stereotype
Half alive with half open eyes
With a one track mind
And a flawed design
Feeling like I was lost
At sea at only the age of 19
Floating around in alcohol and apathy
Taking in too much caffeine and nicotine
If we make it out of here alive
Just say you won't look back to see
Just who we left behind

We're all doing just fine
We were always the ones laughing last
We were never the ones looking back
We were always the ones to say that
We're all doing just fine

I used to be a stereotype
Someone you'd never recognize
With fingers so yellow
That it matched the yellow skies
And there was a few things I memorized
From all those blurry times
Like bottles clinking under blinking signs
And a few last words from lost friend of mine

If we make it out of here alive
Just say you won't look back to see
Just who we left behind

We're all doing just fine
We were always the ones laughing last
We were never the ones looking back
We were always the ones to say that
We're all going just fine

Words to live by
We're doing fine

17 years ago as a young teen (14 or 15), me and a friend went to the House of Blues to see LTJ but the show was sold out.

We were standing behind the building smoking menthols and drinking the 4 cans of Olde English that we intended to sneak in to the show (gross I know, but you take what you can get when you're underage), wondering what the hell to do at downtown disney because we had hours to kill before his mom would be picking us up when Vinnie walked out to grab a smoke.

We got to talking and we told him we couldn't get into the show.  He said he would let us in if we helped their crew carry in merch, so we each grabbed a box of shirts and walked in through the back.  I met the girl who would give me my first kiss and eventually my first blowjob at that show (not the same night...I was way too awkward to pull that shit off).

I've seen them many times since then but that is one of the best shows I went to in my life.

and as you should, the only ska band that is comparable in greatness is Choking Victim/Leftover Crack

Wouldn't be able to choose between the 2 myself. I just purchased a ticket to see Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish in Edmonton, AB, Canada.

The intro sounds like 1978's 'Suspect device' by Irisah band Stiff Little Fingers.Less Than Jake played this year's Reading festival - but as they were on at the same as Foo Fighters Foo Fighters won my 'Who should I see?' doubt.
