Lesley Gore - The Old Crowd Lyrics

Sometimes I get to thinkin' 'bout days gone by
And I start cryin' every time
What I wouldn't give if I could just relive
One day with those old friends of mine

No one ever planned it, but every day at 4
We would get together at the corner candy store
We would just ignore the sign "No dancing allowed"
Oh wo yeah, I miss the old crowd

Sally was the funny one, Sue wore the hippest clothes
Eddie was the wise guy, was always one of those
Johnny used to sing off-key before he was allowed
Oh wo yeah, I miss the old crowd

Well now, it's funny when high school gets all through
Friendships always come to an end
Everybody tells you they'll keep in touch, yeah
But you don't see them again, oh no

It's not that I'm unhappy; I know I still have you
But I still think about those good times we knew
We were so carefree & our thoughts were out loud
Oh wo yeah, I miss the old crowd
Yeah, I miss the old crowd

Lesley Gore The Old Crowd Comments

    A great song, but dated.

  2. g.... ....

    Epitaph for a Generation

  3. J.... S....

Lesley had such a crisp, distinct delivery that elevates all her material, even the songs that could seem very dated only reading the lyrics. She never really got the credit she deserved. This song always makes me feel sad, but in a good way.

This song is more relevant as the years pass --longing for the carefree, unspoiled times and the folks who populated them. One could quite easily shed a tear or two, all those sweet faces from the early past reappearing on the mind's timescreen. And that Leslie Gore 'sound', such a part of the long ago. I miss all those folks, many who have now passed -- gone forever (?). R.I.P., Ms. Gore and all the aforementioned Thanks for being a part of "The Old Crowd" (As saccharin as that may seem, I do mean it sincerely.) 3/2019

  5. b.... ....

This song makes me think of my youth - some of the names and traits exactly match kids I knew.

  6. E.... R....

Alot of the B sides of these old 45's were actually quite good.

  7. B.... M....

Beautiful in every way. RIP sweet angel.

Went to my 50th class reunion last night and this song has been on my mind today. So glad I got to see some of the Old Crowd again.

    Perfect voice, great song!

I've loved LG's songs since the 60's.  After reviewing music history, again, in my mind, I still come up with the same answer.  Music from the 30's thru 90's was very good, save some exceptions.  LG, was however, VERY FRIGGEN GREAT.  Saw her in concert some years ago and she didn't miss a beat.  Was great and miss her.  Thanks for listening.

Lesley, you left us far too soon ! I LOVED your voice, & your music. My Favorite of all : " California Nights". It should have been # 1. RIP, Sweet Lesley. --------------WolfSky9, 71 y/o

...and,oh by the way, this songs lyrics and meanings, ring so true.  Values of yesteryear mean much.  Baby boomers, hold rank over those born after 1964.  We had better values.  Nuff said.

    G.... M....

Yall literally ruined the world with pollution and said "oh? its not like we're gonna live to see it happen who cares🤣" and now we're all gonna die cause of yall🙄60s kids can literally rot in the sewers

  13. G.... M....

...so cute, beautiful.  During my days, she was...no question....all of that....

  14. G.... M....

..the man with the microphone, in the series of photoclips, is that Alex Trebeck?

...sometimes, the "B" side is better than the "A" side...

  21. G.... M....

...really, what a great song,...I love it, evenI've  have found it recently.  This song should have been a hit.

  22. G.... M....

What a great song this is......Love it......

  23. G.... M....

...so therefore..."this is such a great and meaningful" song, meant for all times.   I do know , having witnessing 2 teens "canoodling", earlier this evening...kinda reminded me of,....myself and a young lady from times past...also on the same "grounds of memories."

  24. G.... M....

  31. P.... S....

Another great sounding song by our cutie pie from Tenafly.

  32. M.... G....

This was a B-side but great song for bringing back memories of school days and fun times.  One of my favorites.  Leslie gave us so many fun songs even when they were about losing a love.  One of a kind...will be missed.

    M.... G....

The irony was that this WAS originally the "A" side (written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin) When it was released the radio stations loved "She's a Fool" and the rest is history!!

  33. A.... W....

Music from my time.  Loved to hear her sing!  R.I.P. Leslie!  Your music lives on!

  34. t.... c....

Lesley passed away today at 68 years of age but man what a legacy she leaves.

  35. M.... S....

this song makes me want to cry because the lyrics are so true. Every one says they will keep in touch but you dont see or hear from ever again..Friendships come to and end..This makes my heart ache because we did have a cornor candy store from up from all my schools..elementary, junior hs, and hs school..a connor candy store that we hung out before school. and after.

    M.... S....

I agree Mitchell. I first heard this song when I was around 15 and wondered if Gerry Goffin's lyrics would describe my future. Here it is 50 yrs after graduation and yes, so many never kept in touch and of course, sadly many gone too. I still love this tune no matter what!

My heart just Flashed back! I wonder how many of the Old Crowd classcof 1974 still with us? Sadly not Everyone😢

  36. i.... ....

Does anyone know where I could get the chords for this song? Hahaha! I feel like it would be a kinda cute graduation song.

    i.... ....

hey izzi. I used to play my bass to this tune. It was in B but I don't remember much else. It would be different for piano or guitar. Give it a go, I bet you can figure it out. I especially loved the bridge.

  37. G.... ....

I grew up with those songs since my father were playing them at his LP player , when I was a kid (born in 1983)

  38. t.... ....

I never realised it until 2012 but this is a virtual copy of "It Might As Well Rain Until September". Stands to reason really as this is also Goffin-King

  39. J.... J....

Leslie Gore - One of my favorite NJ girls. All of her songs, just fabulous.

  40. b.... ....

Great song, beautifully done by Lesley, and it was written by famous Brill Building writers, Carole King and Gerry Goffin.

  41. x.... ....

Great post. Many applications to school and other groups that I have experienced. Teriffic song, wish it could "re-appear" for the younger set today. I'm a "1948" also.
    Thanks for posting.

  42. j.... ....

@bigbirdandsnuffyfan Me too. I really miss the old days and old friends. I'm still in touch with a handful of my grade school and high school friends but so many have disappeared.

  43. b.... ....

Thanks for posting, this is my favourite LG track and you don't hear it much these days, reminds me of the friends I used to hang out with when I was a lot younger, great montage of LG photos.
