Leonard Cohen - The Window Lyrics

Why do you stand by the window
Abandoned to beauty and pride
The thorn of the night in your bosom
The spear of the age in your side
Lost in the rages of fragrance
Lost in the rags of remorse
Lost in the waves of a sickness
That loosens the high silver nerves
Oh chosen love, Oh frozen love
Oh tangle of matter and ghost
Oh darling of angels, demons and saints
And the whole broken-hearted host
Gentle this soul

And come forth from the cloud of unknowing
And kiss the cheek of the moon
The New Jerusalem glowing
Why tarry all night in the ruin
And leave no word of discomfort
And leave no observer to mourn
But climb on your tears and be silent
Like a rose on its ladder of thorns

Oh chosen love, Oh frozen love...

Then lay your rose on the fire
The fire give up to the sun
The sun give over to splendour
In the arms of the high holy one
For the holy one dreams of a letter
Dreams of a letter's death
Oh bless thee continuous stutter
Of the word being made into flesh

Oh chosen love, Oh frozen love...

Gentle this soul

To all those persons who disliked such heavenly voice and music:
Dear God please forgive them, for they've sinned.

  16. Thomas Combs

First hearing your mind is intrigued. Second hearing penetration begins. Third hearing makes sparkles in your mind. Fourth hearing your mind and soul are coming together. Fifth hearing your mind and soul are hooked. Subsequent hearing just penetrate deeper into your mind and soul, fusing them more, until perfect harmony and understanding is achieved. Oh, Leonard, you must have been talking with the angels as they described their battles with Satan and their subsequent victories, and their love for the beauty of God's creation despite the failings of man to realize it. Now you are in perfect harmony with them all forever. Hallelujah, Hallelujah
    Hallelujah, Hallelujah.

  17. Jan Olsen

    Sometimes,
    stuck, on high.
    Raging, rather,
    the calm come
    undone.

    Suddenly,
    the words,
    as they
    reveal
    them
    selves:
    are a
    blessing,
    indeed.

    Oh,
    for the
    gentle
    remind
    of past,
    perhaps
    lost in
    that which
    unfreezes
    after
    unraveling.

    That,
    which
    unravelles
    us all. .

    Vale, Leonard.

    For the sharing
    of your
    getnle, playful
    soul with us all.

Shame about the imagery in the video. It is biased to Christianity, repetitive and wrong for this astonishingly beautiful song which expresses metaphors to deliver its message which is NOT about tribalism in spirituality.

  38. Jarka Kazda

    Fabulous song, fabulous violin.....

  39. Joanie Boyles

    Beautiful lyrics.

  40. Ken Bellchambers

The visual art in this song was amazingly beautiful. This man is a musical master of the highest order. I liked Trump from the beginning simply for his comedic value. I was amazed to see an angel baby in training. This man is turning out to be the greatest leader the USA ever had, or could ever hope for. He is addressing every serious issue, but, unfortunately, he is not aware of the serious environmental issues yet. In other very vital issues, he is facing them head on with wonderful success. Maybe he will actually bring the USA back from the brink. I hope so.

  67. juliet juliet

When I listen to Leonard Cohen I always listen first to his melody and his beautiful voice - paying little attention to the words - just riding the waves that he ripples into time and always enjoying the ride - such is this song - maybe that's why I hear something so different than most -

    juliet juliet

Certainly - the person who put together the images here - heard words much different from the way in which I heard them

  68. George Mathews

    Only poets speak the truth
