Leonard Cohen - The Letters Lyrics
You never liked to get
The letters that I sent.
But now you've got the gist
Of what my letters meant.
You're reading them again,
You press them to your lips,
My pages of concern.
I said there'd been a flood.
I said there's nothing left.
I hoped that you would come.
I gave you my address.
Your story was so long,
The plot was so intense,
It took you years to cross
The lines of self-defense.
The loss, the full extent;
And simple kindness here,
The solitude of strength.
You walk into my room.
You stand there at my desk,
Begin your letter to
The one who's coming next.

The best song I ever heard ❤️❤️💪🏼💪🏼
Ok, ok, we could never ever dare to make a "best Leonard Cohen songs" list which would be fair, because the truth is, this man never ever recorded a bad song in his life, even his weakest moments- so to speak- would make 99,9% of the artists out there be ashamed and humbly retire- that is, a "best of" collection had to virtually include ALL HIS SONGS (ok, I'd skip "No Diamonds in the Mine", and maybe "Don't Go Home with a Hard On" but only these two), but even though we're dealing here with a truly unique musical genius, yet there are CERTAIN SONGS which- how can I put it- touch us deeper, penetrate in a deeper part of our souls, some pieces he seemed to have carefully written so that we could listen to his words and feel the fascinating helplessness of our human condition. Songs like "A Thousand Kisses Deep", "Waiting for the Miracle", "The Stranger Song", "There for You", "Famous Blue Raincoat", "The Partisan"- and this one. This song is so painful and poignant to listen to I immediately become sad when I listen to it. His clearly spoken words "hit home" in a way I'm too embarassed to say, and I can't help picturing myself in the same situation described in the lyrics- those excruciating, suffocating times when you try to express something knowing that words don't matter, words don't change a thing- those times you'd like to write someone a "page of concern" about your long story, with its intense plot and your unlimited self-defense resources- only to see your words going to waste, and you ending down there, proud of your solitude, proud of your strenght, but begging for comprehension, begging for letting go, begging for the acceptance of someone spiritually similar to you. That depresing sensation- why do we still insist in using words if they can never truly express our inner thoughts and feelings? So that we can show someone, somehow, how pathetically fragile we are? When will this cycle end? What will be the final letter, the one someone will not dare to burn? Aside from "The Miracle", these are Cohen's lyrics which I feel most intimately, like he could have written this song especially for me- needless to say, I feel embarassed, honored and depressed at the same time.
fantastic song for ever

It's about everyone's life... Unfortunatelly...

ZOSTANIE W PAMIECI I JEGO PIOSENKI ...
I'm a big Cohen fan but must admit to never having gotten to know the Dear Heather album. This beautiful song has convinced me to change that.
Dear Heather is probably the One, unrightfully neglected LC album....
it's bare and simple in a way, but also strikingly painful and beautiful :))
We will never forget you. Peace to your soul.
Rest in peace dear Mr. Cohen!
his voice is unforgetable...
The most unique songwriter of ALL-TIME

Kitty West -how are you holding out, Kitty? Seems it never gets easier.
Uno de los más grandes y se acaba de ir... tal vez con su Marianne...
A great soul have left the world.....
Que tristeza su partida, un hombre genial.
Wish he got the Noble Prize in his life time ...a life time spent by a great artist in creativity .
he is more than politics noble
I felt he deserved it more than Bob Dylan..
R.I.P. You are the best forever.
and I would add : we still do not fully understand how deep are his words.
Царствие небесное тебе.....Эх.....
r rest in peace
what a great artist and poet. he deserved a Nobel prize too
He was the Prize that we were awarded.
he is more than noble but politic
More than Bob Dylan..
Hastayım
Such deep and poetic words The solitude of strength wonderful

Such a great great song.
Beauty in song, x

Cohen will be missed when he is gone. He will not be forgotton like many are.
Lets hope he makes it to 100!
Imagine the emptiness when he is no longer with us!!!!!!
Who is the second voice?
He's never sentimental. He's way too deep to be sappy. It's not emotion-it's thought.
Plus he's really sexy.
amazing
Thank you so much for posting! :)
