Leonard Cohen - Tennessee Waltz (Live) Lyrics

I was dancing with my darlin'
to the Tennessee Waltz
When an old friend I happened to see
Introduced him to my loved one
and while they were waltzing
My friend stole my sweetheart from me.
I remember the night and the Tennessee Waltz
Now I know just how much I have lost
Yes I lost my little darlin'
The night they were playing
The beautiful Tennessee Waltz.
She comes dancing through the darkness
To the Tennessee Waltz
And I feel like I'm falling apart
And it's stronger than drink
And it's deeper than sorrow
This darkness she's left in my heart.

Seven times I saw him live - the first time was 1970 at the Isle of Wight Festival when I was just sixteen - afterwards ones in Athens, Amsterdam and Berlin, followed by three concerts within his last years 2008, 2010 and 2013 here in Stockholm - His last one was the best I ever saw placed just in front of the stage

By "music", I don't mean what he PLAYED, but the music that he LOVED. Notice that he mentions Willie Nelson in "The Tower of Song" He doesn't talk about it much - its HIS private love.

I believe you meant Hank Williams

Country music was actually his favorite kind of music. His first 'group' was a C&W band. - he wore a "fringe jacket", a cowboy hat,
the whole shebang! (when he was a teenager)

Yes, you are right. I think a lot of people associate this song with Hank Williams and I (wrongly) assumed that he wrote it. Thanks for the info :o)

How do ya figure? The song was written by Pee Wee King & Redd Stewart.

I love this man so much. I find it impressive that Leonard Cohen knew theman worked hard by notcing the calluses on this man's hand. I sure hope he was there, and was able to see this tune performed.

I love this; it is Leonard Cohen's homage to Hank Williams ("A hundred floors above me in the Tower of Song"). Really good, thanks.
