Lennon, John - Old Dirt Road Lyrics

Ain't no people on the old dirt road
No more weather on the old dirt road
It's better than a mudslide mamma when the dry spell come, yeah
Oh oh oh old dirt road

Ain't no difference on the old dirt road
Tarred and feathered on the old dirt road
Trying to shovel smoke with a pitchfork in the wind, yeah yeah yeah

Breezing thru the deadwood on a hot summer day
I saw a human being lazybonin' out in the hay
I said uh, hey Mr. Human can ya rainmaker too?
He said I guess it's O.K. ya know the only thing we need is water
Cool, clear water, water

Ain't no people on the old dirt road
No more weather on the old dirt road
Better than a mudslide mamma when the morning comes, yeah
Oh oh oh oh old dirt road

Keep on keeping on
Keep on keeping on
So long, so long
Bye bye

Nilsson's version is also worth a listen. It was on his last album.

The whole lp is better than most Macca releases

  26. I.... P....

    Fantastic !!

  27. B.... O....

One of John Lennon's most underrated songs!

  28. F.... F....

This song is a partnership between Lennon and the incredibly underrated singer songwriter Harry Nilsson, who also recorded his own version of it .

    F.... F....

Fanques Fair Nilsson is not “underrated”,... He’s generally regarded as a troubled genius who had a fantastic voice and mountains of talent. He was also terribly self destructive. “Underrated” is vastly overused,...

    F.... F....

    Beatle Stories ?

    JOHN 👓 WINSTON/ONO 🎸 LENNON...
    MY [ ROCK GOD/HERO ] ......
    ( KNUCKLE👊🏽BUMP ) John 👓 Lennon...

  30. p.... ....

I was recently in Sedona and this song fit perfectly.

  31. S.... G....

John was a true hero he died for what he believed in...

    S.... G....

Star Gazer He didnt die because of his beliefs.

    S.... G....

xxcharmed1xx yes he did. His killer admitted that the reason he shot john was because John said that “The Beatles were more popular than Jesus” in 1966

  32. R.... B....

I consider this album John's solo masterpiece. It has everything that made John great; great lyrics, great vocals, great melodies and arrangements, lots of variety, happy songs, soul-bearing songs... In interviews given at the time of its release, John seemed pretty proud of this album. It was only later after returning to Yoko that he dismissed it as his "lost weekend" album. This album is a collection of songs that stand among his best work.

    R.... B....

How did he refer to it before getting back with Yoko? Also fun fact, he wrote/sang Bless You for Yoko in an attempt to get back with her 💖

    R.... B....

@Elijah john Have to call it a draw. Hard to separate the two...different yet similar and top notch.

    R.... B....

    Agree with you Robert! Brilliant!:)

    R.... B....

Yup. I like this - as an overall album, better than Imagine. Funny how when released from the shackles of Yoko, that John was creative again! His "lost weekend" should have continued.

    R.... B....

@Marty Howe Oh if it only had continued!:)

  33. E.... w....

So many references in this tune.
    Soul seranade/cool clear water

  34. c.... d....

listening to this,,,and you could say,,one of his best,,then you listen to another, and say the same and so on,wow he had the gift so so pleasing,, and so beautiful

  35. M.... S....

    Great song

  36. D.... J....

beautiful song. such an underrated album!

    D.... J....

Daniel Jones - East London Blues It’s not “underrated”,... over used meaningless word,... Along with “Imagine” it’s generally considered his best solo album by critics.

  37. a.... ....

    Jesse Ed Davis- beautiful playing

  38. q.... ....

Didn't John compliment Paul's 'Yesterday' by saying something like: (paraphrasing ) "A great song that unfortunately din't have a point to it?" Well, John got half of that accomplished here.

    q.... ....

get a fucking life you worthless fucking maggot ass troll

    q.... ....

ddjdd wfgggb it was an opinion. He doesn’t like the song he doesn’t have to like it . Your defending a man who was a competitive person who used criticism as a way to grow

    q.... ....

ddjdd damn overreacting a bit arnt you?
