John was influenced by Gene and its the first record he ever bought *** Same for Paul *** Gene was the true genius in the delivery of "Be-Bop-A-Lula" .Gene wrote this song while in the hospital recovery from his motor cycle accident with Donald Graves who was Gene's roommate recovering from an accident and became good buddies *** Enter Sheriff Tex Davis who talked Donald into selling his rights for a quick $25 dollars *** That's why you'll see his name along with Gene's on the record label , Tex was a DJ and wanted to manage Gene and he knew Gene's unique style and that record was going to take off *** And it did !! Entered the Billboard charts on June 16, 1956 and by June 23rd it sold 200,000 copies in the USA *** Sold over 2 million copies by April 1957 when he received his 1st Gold Record *** It is estimated to have sold well over 5 million , 7 million has been quoted *** It still sell's today *** I bought my 8 copies way back in June of 1956 ( Actually my father bought them for me * I was 12 at the time ) *** 6 copies have never been touch by a needle , Never played *** A cherish these treasure's *** Just as I cherish Gene and all of his recordings/music *** Whether its "Rock'n'Roll" *** "Rock-A-Billy" *** His Beautiful "Ballads" *** The Blues *** He did it all ! Sang Gospel too , but couldn't convince him to do an LP or perhaps an EP * Darn ! Rest In Peace Sweet Gene and John Lennon *** Two of the very best * Both gone too soon , never forgotten , loved and missed * Forever In my heart .
