Lemonheads, The - It's A Shame About Ray Lyrics
I've never been too good with names.
The cellar door was open, I could never stay away.
I know it's prob'ly not my place.
It's either or, I'm hoping for a simple way to say.
In the stone, under the dust,
his name is still engraved.
Some things need to go away.
It's a shame about Ray.
If I make it through today,
I'll know tomorrow not to leave my feelings out on display.
I'll put the cobwebs back in place.
I've never been to good with names,
but I remember faces.

2020 version....# I've never been too good with memes #
I listen to a LOT of music. I just dusted off the Lemonheads recently. So many good songs.....gonna be listening to the for awhile longer for sure.
Iconic 90s ❤
this video should have 500 million views
What a great album..too bad they didn't have the material to keep going..flash in the pan..but a great debut..
I'm streaming with this online
I like the way the song doesn't actually start.
who is ray they sigin bout?
HAPPY NATIONAL CHOCOLATE DAY!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!
It's a shame about 40 thumbs down.
Ray had so much going for him.
Who was Ray and what happened to him ?
Bwesit this is awesome
1955 Billy cobb
This song was played in my gym a few days ago while I was working out. Not a workout song but I like hearing it. This song reminds of friends and family I love dearly but have lost over time. May you folks rest in peace and keep watching over me!
Steven Atkinson I’m doubtful of heaven existing, but either way, may they Rest In Peace. Stay strong buddy!
In a gentle way this has saved my life
Eraserheads - Alapaap
Who is Ray anyway?
I cover this at open mic!
If this was released now, it would get drowned out or at least harder to find. Everything out there is noise, compressed, and autotuned. Just be thankful you discovered this song when you did
I love short melodies
there is some heavy weight between the lines.
Lots of words rhyme with Ray. Today, yesterday and tomorrow, eh.
some things need to go away..

OMG the 1990s :D That was my era :D Back in the day I knew this dude named Ray. He looked exactly like Kylo Ren. His mother was so scared of him because he was so obsessed with death.
2019 and its still a shame about Ray
I like my own reply. I don't care if that's cool or not. Imagine jlennon alive and the Lemonheads without homey getting popped for what is now legal there. Could have been should have been but ain't
All for a little seed
I'm getting tired about worrying about ray
Rodney Craker can someone please tell me what this song is about
Yo mamma, Zoomer!
That girls face looks like my ex-girlfriend. :( I had one perfect year with her, adventure, love, kisses, and education. :D I love Tamara.
Stevedore Votes What happened?
Thanks God for letting me do my growing pains in the 90’s.
Would I do it again? Most definitely.
which song came first Big Me foo fighters or it's a shame about Ray ?
Definitely 'It's A Shame About Ray', Foo Fighters didn't form until after Kurt Cobain died.
This is lame
lame it may be, however the force may be hidden in its lameness.
help me find a song from early 90's alt-lyrics were something like-"come and see ..tamborine or tangerine...
"Tangerine" by Buffalo Tom?
@Alan Rose Thanks-not it but Im still looking-another line in the song was"like a shooting star"-cant find it!
@Paul Presto From a totally different era, but your question reminded me of the psychedelic song from the 60s "Green Tambourine" but maybe it was triggered by the name of that band being the Lemon Pipers and the song in this video is Lemonheads!? EDIT: And, oh yeah, spoiler alert, their tambourine was not green, just a plain old wood finish...those guys must have been "on something".
Fuckyou
HAPPY NATIONAL CHOCOLATE DAY!
Alternative radio was awesome in '92, and the entire early 90s for that matter. One hit wonders put out some gems, plus all the bigger bands.
Spacehog, Soup Dragons, Sugar, Catherine Wheel, etc. Great melodies to sing along to, plus shimmering guitars and tight production.
Catherine Wheel-"Black Metallic"; Swervedriver-"Duel"; The Wendys-"Gobbledygook", etc.
I had a college radio show that I listened to out of UC Santa Barbara called Nocturnal Emissions from 91-96 That's when I broke the chains of classic rock and started to dig all the bands you have mentioned and many many more!
Oh God. The nostalgia now, it's like heartbreak. I feel sick lost and sad at the thought of them
The Posies
Rachael Batten saw them in concert have their drum sticks threw them during the concert
Lemonheads.
Dulces por dentro.
Saludos desde Monte Grande, Argentina!
HAPPY NATIONAL CHERRIES JUBILEE DAY!
Why is it a shame about me? I'm just hurt... LOL
Quality dad-joke there, sir!
I miss my Ray terribly but, for some strange reason, I feel like he's still with me when I hear this song. Love you forever Ray.
The best

Damn this song is excellent! Have listened to it for years and it Never gets old
Its a shame this song didn't get about ray.
Fiddlesticks. ..I used to sing this song to my best friend Ray.....cause it was a cool song of our time....now I have listened to the words.....no wonder he dissed me
My old man had this album in his stash thought the cover art was dope decided to give it a try awesome band hate how these kind of bands came & went back in the day
The recent passing of Ray Thomas (Moody Blues) brought me here.
I'd give anything to travel back to 1992.
Personally I'd change 98% of my previous decisions.
@Ashley Hannavas I like this comment. I think to love yourself you have to accept your failures
There ain't no save-scumming in the game of life! ....but if there was o.O
we all would
Omg that's exactly how I feel, same year and all......
Yes 92 was a great year.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!
What about my employers, Rutherford Investigations? Search… Rutherford Investigations & Collections Ltd was Acquisitioned for 190 million credits by Dream Corp, 15/02/2431… What the hell, so Frank sold up… Alex Stafford took over as Director… the brown nosing little gobshite. Hold on a minute wasn’t Madigan contracted to Dream Corp aswell? There were far too many convenient and conflicting interests here for this amount of coincidences…
hate your friends had that tee in high school
Back when Lemonheads T-Shirts were unique cool and slightly subversive.
Ah,the pre "Alterative" days.
I've never been too good with names

I've never been to good with names
But I remember faces
As do we all
That’s all of the lyrics? Why thank you
It's a shame
What I meant to say is " It's a shame" we don't hear songs like this on the radio anymore.
Sounds like a song Juliana Hatfield would write. She's so good. That's her in the pic.
Is it really? I feel like JH's lips are a smidge thinner than that.
oh dang, looks like you're right.
It's not Juliana Hatfield. It's a Boston-area actress named Polly
Noonan who knew the band members when they were attending the
Commonwealth school in Boston.
Wait a minute, something is clicking- was that polly noonan in the weird answering machine song message at the end of one of their early albums?? Whoever it is definitely says the name.
def looks/sounds like her
Shorty Shea...
These guys always manage to put me in a happy mood. Why didn't I grow up in the 90s?
I came of age in the 90's and it was not what you think my Man.
That decade had a lot of bad stuff going on.
smokew33d4lyfe420xx would enjoy being back in the "90's" if not for our 4 year old.. love her
i did, everyone was miserable, but it was ok
It wasn't *that* great. Lotta cynicism, lotta wasted lives.
The music was good, but it kinda felt like the last gasp of indie.
And it was.
Why didn't you just grow up?
For some reason this song randomly popped into my head earlier today. Great tune and always nice to revisit younger days.
+ejbgunny1 that is what just happened to me too...lol
4 people don't feel any shame
Dig harmony and found it here.
Check out my cover of Its A Shame About Ray! Love this song/album/band/EVERYTHING!
locojohnston
Beautiful song.
Where's the "Love" button?
love love love!
No "love love love" is by the Mountain Goats... Great song though
g h h
I've heard that from other people as well. Apparently the Lemonheads just have shitty live shows.
Evan can't sing worth a damn live.
You still should check em out at least once.
Saw them at the Naval Accademy in 1997 I think-great show
It's A Shame About Ray is one of the finest albums released in 1992. However, the Lemonheads are among my worst concerts recollections!
Sadly, that's true - particularly when performing in Boston. They went through more drummers than Spinal Tap. Even Evan Dando drummed at one point (while also doing vocals). Strangely, they were great during their TV appearances.
They were pretty good at the Naval Academy back in 1996-97
just kiddin...carry on
That's Juliana Hatfield on the album cover and she also did backing vocals on it as well
It's not Juliana Hatfield. It's a Boston-area actress named Polly Noonan who knew the band members when they were attending the Commonwealth school in Boston.
