Lee, Peggy - Golden Earrings Lyrics

There's a story the gypsies know is true
That when your love wears golden earrings,
He belongs to you.

An old love story that's known to very few,
But if you wear those golden earrings,
Love will come to you.

By the burning fire, they will glow with ev'ry coal.
You will hear desire whisper low inside your soul.

So be my gypsy;
Make love your guiding light,
And let this pair of golden earrings
Cast their spell tonight.

This song, and its music are timeless! Peggy Lee sings it so well...I was born one year before Peggy Lee recorded this song...The music to this song is a "classic" from an old Russian folk song..I am constantly marveling at how there are so many, hauntingly beautiful, and very romantic Russian folk songs... Music has a way of triggering old memories, but why must we assign this beautiful music to the dusty museum of old age? Let us revive this music, and bring it into the present time, where we can all enjoy it with the youthful people around us, and with the youthfulness within all of us! :-)

    J.... S....

I agree, also this song is beautiful and stays with you forever.

The band Golden Earring refers to Peggy Lee on the radio in their AOR hit song "Radar Love."

    P.... P....

Holy mackerel, I never knew exactly what they were saying after "...the radio's playing some forgotten song" but thanks for that info. I researched and it appears in Radar Love they are saying Brenda Lee.

    P.... P....

It says "Brenda Lee's comin' on strong"

    P.... P....

*Double Ghod* ___👍😏 Although some seem to confuse this also with Bruce Lee, Christopher Lee, Alvin Lee, Bunny Lee, Tommy Lee, Fingers Lee, Leapy Lee, Robert E.Lee, and a whole bunch of other leeches........

    P.... P....

You guys are right. That connection would have been too perfect. Now I'm going to listen to Brenda Lee's "I'm Sorry." So sorry.

It's a matter of taste. Personally I prefer Willie Nelson's cover!

    M.... B....

I think Gandalf has the best cover.

  43. A.... ....

For me, Willie Nelson's version is the best but I have to admit that this one indeed has a very interesting sound.
