Lee, Brenda - I'm Gonna Lasso Santa Claus Lyrics

I'm gonna lasso Santa Claus
And I know just why because
I'm gonna pull, pull, pull, on his beard
Pull, pull, to see if it's real

I'm gonna tick, tick, tickle him on the tummy
Because he laughs so funny
He's so jolly and so fine
When he comes around on Christmas time

I'm gonna lasso Santa Claus
And the reason is because
I know a boy and girl he never goes see
He never brings 'em toys like he does for me

I'm gonna pop, pop Santa Claus
With my water pistol gun
And then I'll take his bags of toys and run
And bring to all the kids who don't have none

I'm gonna lasso Santa Claus
And I know just why because
I'm gonna pull, pull, pull, on his beard
Pull, pull, to see if it's real

I'm gonna tick, tick, tickle him on the tummy
Because he laughs so funny
He's so jolly and so fine
When he comes around on Christmas time

I'm gonna lasso Santa Claus
And the reason is because
I know a boy and girl he never goes see
He never brings 'em toys like he does for me

I'm gonna pop, pop Santa Claus
With my water pistol gun
And then I'll take his bags of toys and run
And bring to all the kids who don't have none

My kids and I love this song. The music is sublime. But with such strange lyrics, I can see why it never went anywhere. My 10 yr old remarked “Well, maybe those were the naughty kids.” Of course!

I found the rare 78 rpm Decca Records pressing of this single issued on the children's series label (i.e. yellow and black on side 1, pink and black on side 2, the latter also used for Decca's regular promo releases); before the 78 rpm format was ultimately discontinued from all record label production during 1958-1960 in the U.S., Decca simultaneously pressed both the 78 and newer 45 rpm formats during the 50's; in fact, all of the Decca-Coral-Brunswick 78 rpm pressings were far superior in sound to the 45 rpm pressings, this, given that the correct 78 stylus was used for playback, making the Decca group artists, including Billie Holiday, Judy Garland, Bill Haley & The Comets, Patsy Cline, Buddy Holly & The Crickets, even Mr. Excitement himself Jackie Wilson, all literally jump out of the speakers; also of note is that the 78 rpm format continued in several countries outside of the U.S. into the 1960s, including the Philippines with the mega rare Dyna Products-Decca pressing of Brenda's big hit, "I'm Sorry." Brenda Lee rocks it at 78 rpm!

The famous Don Helms is on steel guitar here. He was in Hank Williams band. Played on both Hank and Brenda's recordings of Jambalaya.

I like this song, too. Especially since the genre has a mixture of Country and Rockabilly to it. This song was released sometime during 1956, which was the golden era of Rockabilly.

I have always enjoyed Brenda Lee's Christmas songs, for they completely soothe me. PS I also give credit to the guitar player, for he used his guitar slide perfectly.

    K.... C....

Yeah, a couple weeks ago I ordered a compilation CD of all the Christmas songs she did for Decca records. Great purchase.

    K.... C....
