LeDoux, Chris - Stampede Lyrics

We made camp along Red River
Watched the cattle as they bedded down
Back at the wagons, right after supper
We spread our bedrolls on the ground
And me and Willie, we took the night guard
And the sage never smelled so sweet
The prairie moon, was blazin' silver
No chance tonight for a stampede

Way over yonder, off in the distance
Towards the mountains there in the west
Did I see lightnin', did I hear thunder
My mind is weary, I could use some rest
Then all at once, the wind shifts directions
The clouds roll in behind the tumbleweeds
These longhorn cattle, are gettin' restless
God help us all, if they stampede

Smell the rain, hear the thunder
The midnight sky, turns black as death
The lightnin' crashes, smell the sulphur
It's rank and strong, it's Satan's breath
The cattle rise up, and go to runnin'
I spur my pony on and take the lead
And across the herd, I can hear Willie yellin'
Hey Stampede!

Dust clouds rise, as the rain falls
They mix together, turn the air to mud
I feel the longhorns brush against me
And I can feel the demons racin' through my blood
Then all at once, my pony stumbles
We hit the ground, I rise up to my knees
In a flash of light, I can see the cattle comin'
Lord I know I'm gonna die in this stampede

Then I awake, and I look around me
I'm in my bedroll and I'm layin' on the ground
Over there's the wagon, and there's the campfire
I was only dreamin', but what's that sound?
Then I feel the earth tremble underneath me
As the midnight sky begins to bleed
And from the blackness I can hear Willie yellin'
Hey Stampede

Love Cris LeDoux! Hate the sissy stuff in country music now. It's because so few know what the life really is. I live in western OK. There are still cowboys who live the life.

  22. d.... ....

The closest I came to living this video was when I fell off some barges on the Mississippi River and saw them coming towards me.
Neither Mark Spitz or Michael Phelps could have caught me swimming clear that night.

  23. D.... J....

Country music died about the time Chris died. He was a rodeo champion and a very underrated artist. The last man whose songs told a story and no crap about the beach or getting drunk on a

This ain't exactly "Country Music" and rather Cowboy Music. Hell I am from the Country and don't and won't listen to "Country Music" anymore. I still listen to Chris LeDoux and not because some fat kid told me to either. If you knew him he never was that big and his voice sucked but sitting around listening to him in the motels and hotels and drinking he was really good. That was the old days. Way before the PBR and you found you niche and had to be an all around cowboy.

Who on an actual working ranch rides bulls that is missing a little grey matter between the ears. I get it though. It is exciting and there is another whole aspect of it but bulls are meant to breed and not rode. Bearback, Saddle, Bull dogging, roping and cutting are actual skills. On drunk cowboy thought it was fun to have the balls to ride a bull.

How many people reading my words know what "Saint Elmo's Fire" is other that some dumbass movie in the eighties? Yes it use to happen on cattle drives and not just ship masts. How fast does spring move north when in the time of Goodnight and Loving? Yeah about 15 miles per day. This is just some of the shit that had to be planned for moving the Longhorns from Texas to Abilene to the rail head just after the Civil War. Bad ass Tornadoes was another and we are talking about kids. But damn you have to become a man sometime. If not then we would all overschool and hold the title "Esquire". Right?

    K.... H....

Unfortunately there are no new country singers this good

    K.... H....

I had tickets for a concert at Billy Bobs here in Fort Worth back in like 93 or so. I had a Martial Arts tournament at the South Fork Ranch earlier that day. Unbeknownst, I had bronchitis and with the overexertion from the tournament, I couldn't breath and passed out a few times getting ready for the show and was taken to the hospital by my dad. Sooo needless to say, my girlfriend at that time and I missed the concert.

    K.... H....

drove passed his ranch when we were at the 100th anniversary Frontier Days in Cheyenne. I missed the Garth Brooks concert where he came out that night. I regret it to this day.
