@russ collins I know typically Jones plays mandolin. I read that the song was played essentially live in the studio as basically a jam. With Jones on bass, Page on mandolin, and Plant on guitar. I believe I read it on the wikipedia page for the song awhile back.

Yes I had the great honor to see Led Zeppelin four times 8/22/1971 LA Forum, 6/28/1972 Tucson,5/23/1973 Albuquerque Mexico and fourth and final time 3/5/1975 Dallas Memorial Coliseum, all audio available on YouTube except for the 73 Albuquerque show.
