@Todd Burton When I say Rosie O Donnell, I meant Linda's performance of the song on Rosie's show. Linda's is the original and best version of the song.

'Seems to be a struggle for her. And she does not embody the spirit of the song. The ones that make it pleasurable make it seem effortless. Good voice, though... though not a strong one.

Always I hear heavenly voice, crystal clear and you just fall in love...I wish she could be singing in that broadway musical role...

Whose rendition is the best is a matter of preference. I prefer listening to musical rendition that brings me somewhere or leads me down memory lane. Lea's voice quality is golden and clear. She is a great story-teller too. Everything is just right. No over singing no unnessary vocal acrobatics, no bullshit, just pure clear voice and lyrics and emotions that a whole listening experience demands. Everything is tasty and pleasant to the ears. There is eargasm when evrything is just right and in perfect place. Simplicity is what leaves a mark in her performances. I watched her live and her voice blends with orchestra leaving her audience all in awe. You know that feeling when you leave the concert hall? You want to come back to that experience.

Technically, Lea gives justice to the song. She even sings it in original key. Clarity is evident, and I think, it's her forté. The main difference compared to Linda is, the latter sings it emotionally.

Played Eponine in the 10th Anniversary concert of Les Mis, and Fantine in the 25th. Also played Eponine on Broadway IIRC as well as the lead in Miss Saigon.

I've never seen such a beautiful woman like her. She's absolutely authentic in many ways. What a breathtaking singing voice she has!

Very nice but ultimately this is Linda Eder's song. Afraid Lea's phrasing on this one is similar to Whole New World. It sounds pretty rather than intense.

Madan Mohan THANK YOU 🙏🏻 Oh are you more than right. Lea’s is not a belter but her range makes up for it but as you said there is no intensity in her voice. Linda originated the role and this is and always will be her song, the role of Lucy is more dynamic than any Disney princess because it shows a woman from nothing that desires for love and a new life for herself and ultimately dies trying where her hopes and dreams fade away.

FWIW I don't think the song always has to belong to the one who originated it and great covers may sometimes eclipse the original. But this is not one of those.

Madan Mohan It would always boil down to your preference. At the same time, artists would interpret them differently. This was arranged to fit the concept of her concert.

Eder's version is for belting. Lea's version is made for clarity, the notes are adjusted to fit her range, by that way (singing in your comfortable range) , she made a wonderful masterpiece.

Janus Theodore I agree that Lea sang it the way it would suit her voice but I don't have any difficulty understanding what Linda sings when she's belting on Someone Like You. In some other songs the belt muffles her diction but not that song.

Lea Salonga started singing at 2 and did musicals by the time she was 6 I think - she played the lead for Annie. They're both amazing and it's funny when I saw Beau performed the first time, I remembered Lea Salonga.

She lowered the key considerably.  I guess she's not as comfortable with the high belt that Linda Eder has. Lovely otherwise.

Diana Sacino because she's an alto. Yes, it's lovely. Some people always has this notion that belting > low notes... powerful songs can also be sung in low notes.. it's the emotion that matters

Lea is a soprano actually. Her training is classical so she's more comfortable singing high notes in head voice. She's not a belter.

Its because she doesnt want to sing the song with anyone's key, she said that when she sing idinah defeying gravity its own her key, its digusting to sing a song with somebody's key... According to her.

Is a whole step considerable? If I’m not mistaken, Linda sings it in F (which modulates up to F#), and Lea is singing it here in Eb. I do agree it sounds significantly lower, though, but I feel like that may be because of her not being to project as much in the lower parts of the song.

I'm gonna be honest. I love Lea, I really do, but this performance lacked a lot of emotion for me. I'm disappointed. This is my favorite song and I was really rooting for her to knock it out of the park. She sings the Les Mis songs with such power and intensity, but here, she missed the mark. :(
